An Outlawed Heiress and Her Duke is the third book in Denise Day’s Time Travel series and take place in Victorian era America and is a historical fiction.
I have read each of Denise Day’s books and An Outlawed Heiress and Her Duke has by far been my favorite. Each book in this series has gotten stronger and I really enjoyed this one. But it is important to note that, unlike the previous books in the series, this book does not involve any time travel, regardless of the name of the series and so you shoiud be forewarned if that is what you’re looking for here.
The characters had a good depth and feel genuine, the interactions between them read well. I thought that Esther and Geroge had a good chemistry and I loved the kids. I enjoyed the moments of danger and sense of adventure throughout the book, not only when they were traveling across the country, but also while Esther was abrupt change in her station in life in New York.
I was a bit disappointed by how the conflict was resolved. The conflict was the driving force of the entire plot, what brought the characters together and sent them across the country and so I was surprised by how easily it was disolved. (slight, but vague spoiler ahead)It seems to me that if someone is prepared to kill to accomplish their goals, I find it hard to believe that they would accept defeat in the final seconds over a solution that didn’t have any legal papers to support it.(end vague spoiler)
An Outlawed Heiress and Her Duke is a lovely book and I recommend it to those looking for a historical fiction. Although the plot of this book stems from a character’s actions in response to a unsavory situation from the first book in the series, I don’t believe it is necessary for you to have read the previous books if series if you haven’t already.

Blurb :
On the day her beloved father passes away, Esther Silverton, heiress to one of the most powerful fortunes in the nation, believed her broken heart of losing her last family member was the biggest challenge ahead of her. But with her trusted family lawyer vanishing in the Wild West and her father’s devious business partner stopping at nothing to use his absence to claim the Silverton fortune for himself, Esther not only has to disappear in the streets of Victorian New York, but also must find a way to disguise herself.
Poor, starving, and posing as a man, fortune crosses her path with the most attractive English nobleman who has ever stepped foot on American grounds, the stunning George Astley, Duke of Aberdeen.
Fresh off the boat, and with his own family at the brink of ruin, George is set to make his way deep into the Wild West to save his investment in a controversial gold mine—at all costs.
George is at a loss. Why does he feel so attracted to this pretty-faced, cunning guide of his? Has he lost his mind? Or is there more to this boy whose intelligence, bravery, selflessness, and kindness seem to touch the deepest corners of his heart like nobody has ever done before…
Oblivious to the fact that the street-smart guide he hired in New York is actually a wanted heiress on her own mission, the two of them set out to not only face the dangers of the lawless American frontier, but also feelings of attraction, sparks, and maybe even love…

My review :
When a miss in the run, posing as a boy, crosses the path of a man holding maybe the right answer in his hands …
This is Mrs Denise Daye third published book and my third read by her.
And each time, she gets better and better. Her stories are so much more than romance, it is a tale of women finding their inner strength to stand for themselves and the men who would hold their hands at their side. She gives voice to her heroines, each with her own capacities, finds her footing and alters more than her life. And while I do not always agree as how they take matter in hand, which is not the case here, they try and in their own way, they win.
And how a roller coaster ride this one book was, I knew I would read the second book heroine’s brother story, but never I imagined it would this awesome breathtaking striking moving story.
Mrs Denise Daye has outdone herself with this new book, no time travel but such a journey into the wild of America with some stops into the New York of the Gilded Age, I such loved the first chapters of this book I instantly purchase it.
I was nothing like I imagined, I thought the H&H will meet, catch the villain and HEA.
When it was so very different, sure they meet with Esther under disguise, but prior to it, she had to recreate herself, the Esther, George encounters is no more the young woman on her father’s last breath day. She had to become stronger, determined.
« As things stood, she had to major in the arts of survival, attending the school called reality. »
Thus unknowingly, George will fall for the true Esther, he is attracted by his unconventional guide, he won’t be swept of his feet by her beauty, as he believes she is a boy, it is her soul and spirit that will charm him to follow her to the end of the earth.
George is nowhere close to the lofty peer I expected. He was talked about in his sister’s story, still the man in flesh and blood is even more dashing and courageous, crossing half the world to find the means to save his sister when he just could have sat and married a heiress.
He is compassionate, full of kindness and whatever his plight, he stands next to the weaker if they need his help.
He is the perfect match for the tender-hearted Esther, whom has chosen to nurture five street-urchins instead of tending to her own needs.
So if you like multi dimensional characters, strong and resilience heroes, adventurous journey and a sweet HEA, do not miss this little pearl.
Mrs Denise Daye offers us a gem, this is no raw stone but a very polished diamond, with all the quality of a great jeweler piece.
5 stars.
I was granted an advance copy by the author, and ordered my own. Here is my true and unbiased opinion.
