Sophie Beckett never dreamed she’d be able to sneak into Lady Bridgerton’s famed masquerade ball—or that “Prince Charming” would be waiting there for her! Though the daughter of an earl, Sophie has been relegated to the role of servant by her disdainful stepmother. But now, spinning in the strong arms of the debonair and devastatingly handsome Benedict Bridgerton, she feels like royalty. Alas, … she knows all enchantments must end when the clock strikes midnight.
Who was that extraordinary woman? Ever since that magical night, a radiant vision in silver has blinded Benedict to the attractions of any other—except, perhaps, this alluring and oddly familiar beauty dressed in housemaid’s garb whom he feels compelled to rescue from a most disagreeable situation. He has sworn to find and wed his mystery miss, but this breathtaking maid makes him weak with wanting her. Yet, if he offers her his heart, will Benedict sacrifice his only chance for a fairy tale love?

Oh yes, any Bridgerton book by Julia Quinn is a must read!
Quinn’s books are always funny and heartwarming, and she nails retelling the classic tale Cinderella in this book. Sophie is the illegitimate daughter of an Earl, and has been relegated to a life of drudgery after her father’s death. She never thinks she will be able to attend a ball but by a miracle, she does and captures the attention of one of Quinn’s many Bridgertons, Benedict, who is so taken with her he will move heaven and earth to find her. That’s easier said than done, but when they meet years later, sparks fly all over again, though due to a misunderstanding, he doesn’t realize she’s his dream girl. This is one of my favorites from Quinn.
I liked this book quite a bit. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about the Cinderella theme but it was a pretty unique take on it. Overall, Benedict isn’t my favorite brother but I like him all the same. Really, it was Violet Bridgerton, the matriarch of the family, who stole the show for me. I hope she gets enough of a role in the show so everyone can see how fabulous she is.
I have been working on reading the whole Bridgerton series (slightly out of order), and this is by far my favorite book out of the lot! It’s a fairytale that shows how true love is deeper and stronger after overcoming any obstacles to become a reality. I am a known romantic and Julia Quinn is a genius that makes me wish I lived inside one of her books.
An Offer From A Gentleman was definitely something different. It is somehow a mix between a typical historical romance with a twist of Cinderella. Sophie and Benedict’s story is just beautiful. I never expected the storyline to develop like this, but that didn’t make me love the story any less. An Offer From A Gentleman is another great book in the Bridgerton Series and definitely won’t be my last.
3.5 Stars I didn’t hate this. I didn’t love it either. I didn’t really like the way Benedict treated Sophie, not did I really like the retelling aspect (I don’t think for the most part, Cinderella retellings are for me) I really like listening to these on audio but what bothered me the most was Benedict’s reactions to things. It…just annoyed me. Benedict was annoying. I said it. As far as Sophie went I liked her a lot, she didn’t let her experience get her down too much, aside from the fact she was overly upset by not being recognised despite the fact he never saw her fact…like Okay. I think I’ll carry on with the series, but I’ll wait for my library to get the audiobooks in. So it might be a LONG while.
This is the kind of book that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside while at the same time, makes you laugh out loud .
Benedict and Sophie’s love story was a perfect retelling of Cinderella that had me reading into the wee hours of the morning because I just could not put it down!
I can understand Sophie’s hesitation to disclose her true identity with the circumstances surrounding the situation being so unfortunate.
4 1/2 stars. Such a sweet story.
Awe, this book was super cute. It was a Cinderella story and just as adorable. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about Ben and Sophie because it seemed to be a retelling, but I really enjoyed it. I am a sucker for love at first sight fated lovers and this really hit the mark.
I love a good Cinderella retelling and this one was all of that and more. I will say I wanted to smack Benedict upside the head on more than one occasion but considering he is a man I suppose that is only to be expected. Overall a fun and sweet story with good wit and humor and loads of drama.
An Offer From a Gentleman was so fun, sweet, and exciting to read. Benedict and Sophie were the best. This was an excellent addition to the Bridgerton series.
I will be honest. I felt it was an absolute crime that this book was not about Colin after I have come to love him oh so much… especially with his increased time in the last book… but I guess if I have to wait one more book at least this one has Cinderella inspiration. But then this one has turned out to be my favorite of them all so far. My gosh how I LOVED Benedict and I adored Sophie. And I truly just loved this book from beginning to end. It was just one of those books that had a smile on my face from beginning to end. Just loved every single second of it.
This very Cinderella-esque retelling was fun, but not my favorite of the series. Benedict, for as much as he disliked other people taking advantage of Sophie, seemed like he kinda was too. He’s basically her employer (through his mother) and yet he keeps propositioning her after she’s said no for reasons that make sense to her. The power dynamic made me a little uncomfortable in this one.
Thanks to Netflix’s broadcast of Bridgerton and my need to read books before I see them on screen, I have fallen in love with a new series. An Offer From a Gentleman is Benedict’s story with a Cinderella twist.
The characters grow in personality the more you read. I am loving the Bridgerton family more with every book.
Sophie’s life was difficult. I liked how the author showed her strength thru her difficulties.
Benedict was looking for a love that saw him, not just the Bridgerton name. A person who could understand all that he is, not just as the Bridgerton second son.
Violet Bridgerton, the matriarch of the Bridgerton family, is still my favorite Bridgerton. She is fierce when it coms to her family, or those whom she deems as family.
I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I hope that they all make it on screen.
This story is not one of my favorites in this series. I enjoyed that it moved the story along in knowing more about the Bridgertons, especially Violet whom we see a lot more of in this story. I liked Benedict’s character at first but then about half way in the story my opinion changed due to events and circumstances. I liked Sophie’s strong will and independence which allowed me to enjoy the arc of her story a bit more. I am still interested in seeing how their storylines continue throughout the series as I continue to read.
So I, like the rest of the planet, got really into Netflix’s Bridgerton over Christmas and I didn’t want to wait until they released the next series to find out what happens. An Offer from a Gentlemen is essentially a re-telling of Cinderella in which Benedict Bridgerton falls madly in love with a mysterious woman who attends the annual Bridgerton masquerade ball. Little does he know that his mystery lady is Sophie Beckett, the illegitimate daughter of an earl. Sophie lives with her cruel stepmother and stepsisters, working as their maid in exchange for room and board, and has snuck out of the house looking for just one night of fun. I broadly enjoyed this book, much more than the other Bridgerton books that I had read. I think it’s because this book focuses much more on Sophie. A lot of attention is given to fleshing out her character and her choices seem much more rational and explicable than other characters’ in this series have been. This book was a lot of fun and I would recommend it to anyone who had either enjoyed the Netflix series or was looking for something enjoyable to break up a series of heavier reads.
Drama filled in the best of ways!
I adored sensitive Benedict and strong-willed Sophie! This is the third book in the Bridgerton Series, filled with the trademark humor and heart that we’ve come to know and love from Julia Quinn. An unlikely pair meet and fall in love at a masquerade, only to be separated by time and circumstance. When Benedict and Sophie finally find themselves back in each other’s orbit, the burn is slow and stubborn! I loved it!
A wicked stepmother who would put Cinderella’s to shame, a dashing Bridgerton son playing the hero, an impossible romance with no chance of a happily ever after…Until a wonderful family offers their support and the hero makes a spectacular proposal (not entirely unaided by his brilliant mother.)
This has got to be my favorite Bridgerton Book so far! I loved it so much, I know for a fact I will read it again!
Quinn has done it again in this latest installment of the Bridgerton series. One of the things I enjoy most about these books is that her villains are so very, very NASTY. Araminta’s malice fairly oozes off the page. Too fun!
