When opposites attract, life’s not so simple… When Hermione Spencer’s parents ask her to housesit their summer home in New Zealand, the English earl’s daughter is happy to escape her impending arranged marriage. She’s sure there will be plenty of time to scout out hotels for her romantic retreats business while she supervises the landscaping of the grounds. Then the gardener arrives, and suddenly … gardener arrives, and suddenly life’s not so simple anymore.
Danny Love, the owner of Love Landscaping, knows he’s the opposite of the kind of man Hermione needs, but their differences only seem to draw them together. Beneath her little-rich-girl persona is a gentle innocence that captivates the man who had to grow up fast to look after his disabled father.
Despite their attempt to keep apart, they’re soon drawn into a sizzling affair. But eventually Hermione is going to have to return the real world, and to her husband-to-be. Can she bear to let Danny go?

An Ocean Between Us by Serenity Woods
Between the Sheets #2
I missed this one…had it and thought I had read it but I had not AND I really would have missed out if I had not realized this was so! Danny Love and Hermione Spencer got off on the wrong foot when they met with her playing lady of the manor and looking down her nose at Danny but with references to Lady Chatterley’s Lover, some flirtation and finally some honesty the two begin to see one another as they truly are and are rather rather smitten. Knowing there is a limited time to be together before Hermione heads back to England to her fiance made me wonder how this could work out but it did and it worked out well for everyone in the end. I loved the way both Danny and Hermione put family first but also eventually found a way to be together.
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4-5 Stars
A fun love story, if slightly unbelievable, between a rich and privileged aristocratic Lady and a strap cashed landscape gardener. Hermione has long been lonely, never feeling like she fit in; her childhood spent at boarding school was unhappy and although her time at Uni was happier, she didn’t make close friends and those that she did are scattered around Britain. After initial mistaken first impressions on both sides, Hermione and Danny become close. She feels accepted in the Northland of New Zealand and makes friends with the locals, however duty to her family must come first, which means making the marriage expected of her. This is a standalone story but those readers who have read other books in the Series will make contact with old friends.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own. Warning of Strong Language.
Read 2016
One of my favourite authors. I buy everything she writes and am never disappointed. Have already pre-ordered her latest book. This book has a great story line and interesting characters. One of her best.
Ms Woods writes about characters that you become emotionally invested in. You enjoy seeing them come together then watching them work their way through to staying.
Sweet, fun, and sexy. I haven’t read Lady Chatterly, but I did get a kick out of the references to it since Danny is a landscaper and Hermione is a nobleman’s daughter. What starts off as a fling becomes so much more. Even though there’s not much about his dad, I love what Danny does for him regarding his care; and I loved how accepting Hermione was of that because it was a factor regarding any long-term relationship for Danny. Overall a good story.
Finding love half way around the world
Yet again Serenity Woods has managed to captivate me with an absolutely amazing romance novel and got me all excited for the next book in the series which is out later this month. The second book in the Between the Sheets series, An Ocean Between Us tells the story of Danny and Hermione – two people who come from backgrounds that are literally and figuratively oceans apart (I love when the title so accurately describes the book!!).
Danny is the landscape gardener hired to work on Hermione’s parents’ holiday house in New Zealand. Hermione comes from London, England and is the daughter of an Earl – she’s high class, rich and in New Zealand for a getaway. After a quite amusing case of mistaken identity, it’s clear that these two are very attracted to one another, but with Hermione’s life back in London and Danny loving his home in New Zealand could it ever really work…
Serenity weaves some heavy themes into this story and yet it never brings the overall plot down, instead it enhances it and gives greater depth to the characters. From the class system in England (which as an Australian I found fascinating since we, like New Zealand, are basically a class-less country) to arranged/assumed marriages and from caring for a chronically ill parent to the importance of finding somewhere to belong; I enjoyed delving into these deeper issues alongside what is a steamy and sensual love story.
Every book I read of Serenity’s confirms for me why she is so successful at what she does – and An Ocean Between Us is another great example of her ability to deliver a gorgeous love story with characters I really come to care about.
