In the 12th novel in the New York Times bestselling Longmire series, the basis for the hit Netflix orginal series Longmire, Walt, Henry, and Vic discover much more than they bargained for when they are called in to investigate a hit-and-run accident involving a young motorcyclist near Devils Tower
In the midst of the largest motorcycle rally in the world, a young biker is run off the road and … road and ends up in critical condition. When Sheriff Walt Longmire and his good friend Henry Standing Bear are called to Hulett, Wyoming—the nearest town to America’s first national monument, Devils Tower—to investigate, things start getting complicated. As competing biker gangs; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms; a military-grade vehicle donated to the tiny local police force by a
wealthy entrepreneur; and Lola, the real-life femme fatale and namesake for Henry’s ‘59 Thunderbird (and, by extension, Walt’s granddaughter) come into play, it rapidly becomes clear that there is more to get to the bottom of at this year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally than a bike accident. After all, in the words of Arthur Conan Doyle, whose Adventures of Sherlock Holmes the Bear won’t stop quoting, “There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact.”

Craig Johnson’s writing is always very suspenseful!! #LongLiveLONGMIRE Rp
Usually it’s the characters that steal the show in a Longmire novel, but this time around, it’s the setting and backdrop of Sturgis that manage the feat. With a stronger central case to the story and more of Henry’s story told on the page as opposed to off it, this would have been an easy five-star review. As it is, it’s still an absolute blast and told in Craig Johnson’s usual gorgeous, witty style.
I just love the Longmire series. It holds my attention, and I always want to come back for more.
I really enjoy the Longmire series. Good characters, good scene setting, god action. Sometimes he gets a little bogged down in the whole Native American zen that Longmire has , but not during this outing.
I love, love, love this series! The humor and determination of an aging sheriff who is usually fighting against seemingly unsurmountable odds is inspirational to me.
The Longmire series is one of my very favorites.
I thoroughly enjoy all of tge Longmire books.
It is a great book
Longmire is the best!
First rate modern western mystery/crime story
The Longmire character never fails to entertain.
Love all the Longmire stories!!
Vintage Walt. But I was spoiled by Netflix series.
I’ve read the entire Longmire series.
Always look forward to Craig Johnson books
Perhaps the formula is just getting old. The over-use of nicknames (the Sioux Nation over and over, etc.) took over the actual plot, which seemed thin. Lots of driving around, drinking, and I just couldn’t ever get the picture of why we were there or what we were doing. I still love Sheriff Longmire, this just wasn’t his best case.
I have read all the Longmeier series and love it- and the TV program.
I love the way the characters are developed – they are very realistic. The story line keeps you coming back – you don’t want to put it down.
The books are truly better than the Netflix series- the books are bright and funny, and the relationships are strong. I’ve read every one of the Longmire books, and I wish there were more!
Well buy everyone is these eventually
