: Okay, I’m seriously torn in deciding whether this book or the first in this series is my favorite. I loved the character development throughout this book so much and it’s the kind of book I finished with a smile on my face. Those are my favorite kind.
Griffeth knows what he wants and what he doesn’t want. He plans his life down to the moment and decides that the best way to have the best match in a wife, is to orchestrate the entire thing, from the plan not to dance with any woman unless she is family to how to court and, most importantly, who the lucky young woman will be. But what will he do when his “perfect match” doesn’t end up being so perfect for him?
I really loved Isabella. I related to the story of oldest sibling who feels she has to do the right things to save her family. I loved that she made a foolish decision with the very best intentions. I especially loved her relationship with Frederica. Their chatter was so fun to read and Freddie is the best! Isabella probably goes through the most character development through the book and I loved watching her grow and change.
I also really loved how Griffeth and Isabella’s relationship occurred so naturally. That they first started as friends, with no intention of ever being anything more than that, was kind of my favorite. I just really loved how everything played out. Though you really need to read the books in this series in order, if you need a good regency romance, I highly recommend this one!
AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: Read by: Ann Marie Gideon—Ann Marie narrated the first book and I remember not liking her style. However, she did better in this one. You know a narrator is good when you get completely wrapped up in the story and stop noticing the narrator.
Rating:
I can’t believe this is the last of the Hawthorne books. I have so enjoyed this series. You know it’s a good book when I don’t want to be bothered to do anything but read. I soaked up this story all day and was engrossed in the lives of Griffith, Isabella and Freddie:} We’ve know Griffith for so many books as the stiff, huge Duke that takes care of everyone. I have so looked forward to his story and couldn’t wait to meet the woman who finally captured his heart. My only issue was the problem in the story drug on a bit too long and the ending had me rolling my eyes a bit. Other then that it was great. I really want to go back and reread this whole series:} Very clean regency, with good romantic tension.
The final installment, An Inconvenient Beauty, finally gives us Griffith’s story. Griffith seemed to me the stalwart sort, the type of man you can depend on, but this book finally gave me a taste of his emotional side, the side he hates.
And I loved it.
His awkward interactions with Frederica St. Claire lent so much humor to the book, I looked forward to the next time they interact. His befuddlement at her strange behavior and doubts about his “logical” choice for a bride made me look laugh, providing a nice distraction from the frustration of Isabella’s predicament. Not that I wasn’t sympathetic to Isabella’s plight. I well understand feeling obligated to help your family. I just found her uncle to be a horrid, unfeeling, insufferable man, and I needed some laughs to help me get through his scheming.
What I enjoyed most was Isabella’s self-reflection about letting God take care of her problems. I love watching the spiritual growth of characters, and Hunter provided several moments during this series, but I felt Isabella’s the strongest because it resembled problems in my own walk with God.

After reading this book, I became a Kristi Ann Hunter fan. I really enjoyed the bits of humor, the sweet and clean romance between Griffith and Isabella, and the added intrigue of the political manipulations of Isabella’s uncle. The dialogue was good, though maybe a bit much description and thought processes between interactions, but not enough to discourage me. Overall, I enjoyed it very much and have since read three more books in this series.
This was a beautiful story. The characters were great, realistic and relatable. It was humorous in some parts, exciting in others, and emotional in other parts. The plot was great, but especially loved the incredible and powerful message the very talented author included. It is a profound, Godly message that is quite deep. I really appreciated it.
I really recommend all of the books in the Hawthorne House, you’ll love them! Worth every penny! I preordered this one, totally worth it!
Kristi Ann Hunter’s humor will make you laugh out loud. In her final book of this series, readers have one last chance to spend time with these wonderful characters that comprise this interesting family. Hunter ends the series with the oldest brother’s pursuit of a wife and what a way to end! The story is engaging and full of scenes that Regency era fans will love. The characters learn some lessons along the way, which could easily lead to a group discussion. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.
Love this series!!!
From the first chapter to the last, this story was awesome. I am so happy that I finally got to read Griffith’s story. Yay! All of the Hawthornes are living happily ever after! But I am sad to see the series be finished. Why can’t Kristi keep writing more stories about the Hawthornes?!
