He’s an actor pressured to risk everything for his job. She’s an actress struggling to fit into the Hollywood scene. The longer they keep their relationship under wraps, the harder it is to know what’s real. As the paparazzi zero in on their secrets, they must learn to discern the truth from the lies. Will the hazards of show business spark new insecurities or strengthen their bond of trust?

What a great wrap-up to the Spark brothers’ trials and tribulations. Here we have Evan and Emma with their faith on the line. How do they deal and cope with the pressures of life, bosses, fans, and careers … especially when in a bubble of fame and fortune?
As an actor or actress, where do you draw the line? Choices have to be made. And, as we all know choices most likely aren’t clear cut, easy or obvious, especially when outside factors and pressures are constantly on the scene. How will all this impact and affect Evan and Emma? Will their faith take a beating? Can they survive in this world of fake and pretend?
Very good read with realistic issues to be conquered.
I have enjoyed reading all of the books in this series and jumped on the chance to read and review this one when offered an advanced reader copy. So many times the last book in a series is disappointing, but not this one…. It does not disappoint.
Well, the last book in this series was so full. The two in this story seem to keep getting roadblocks thrown at them. They both love each other but it seems that there are others who are trying to tear them apart. Can their love for each other stand strong? You need to read this last story so you can see how Evan and Emma overcome their demons.
Now, I have to be honest, there were a couple of times I wanted to yell at the characters to open their eyes and see what was truly happening. To not believe all that they read!
This is what makes a wonderful author. When you get so wrapped up in the story you feel you are actually friends with the characters, and you want to help them along.
The relationships with friends and families are so real. When we can put ourselves in the characters’ lives and understand the pains and joys, that is what makes a book great! This author has done that!
I have come to really enjoy reading books written by Liwen Y. Ho her writing is smooth and the story flows with wonderful characters and dialogue. I had a problem of not wanting to put this book down. It truly was enjoyable! I was truly caught up in the story and didn’t want it to end. I loved how she also wrapped the whole series up with all the characters from the other books. What fun! You can truly feel like they are a big, wonderful family!
This is a delightful book to read, I highly recommend you pick it and the whole series up and start reading now!
This can’t be the end for these brothers!!
This author is amazing at what she does, she knows just what her readers love.
I loved this series and this book made a good ending.
The characters were so real, I loved how they grew together.
The scenarios were awesome and interesting.
I love this author!
Evan and Emma are actors, Christians, and in love. This final book in the series – which I have really enjoyed – is tension filled and lots of angst. They are both put under pressure to give up their beliefs and convictions. The ending was adorable!!! Sad to see this series end but looking forward to the next book by this author.
I liked this book that is a clean Christian romance between Emma and Evan. They are young Hollywood actors who are Christians and trying to live clean lives. This is a good book for young adults who are young Christians seeking answers for career decisions. I was given an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
The typical book that this author writes has depth and a touch of drama, yet keep an upbeat lighthearted thread. An Extra Spark was different. For those of you who like drama, this book has as much as the television teen drama that Evan acts on. However, if you prefer a light read, this wasn’t very ligh-hearted. It was well written, but had me cringing at every small choice that the characters made.
I received this book as an ARC from the author. I am giving a voluntary review.
Evan and Emma are actors who met on the set of a wildly popular teen soap opera TV show and fell in love in real life. This book explores the challenges of remaining true to one’s faith while dealing with the pressures and fakeness of Hollywood. Entertainment has a huge influence on culture–the values and accepted behaviors of a society. I personally can’t understand how an actor who is a devout Christian can portray an immoral sexual act (or the suggestion of it) especially when it will seem glamorous and appealing to a young audience. I think every aspect of our lives touches others and our jobs need to influence others for good. Evan isn’t perfect but he is a very likable young man with a huge following of fans and Emma is a beautiful young woman who is slowly building her career in show business. They have very different personalities but both have some personal insecurities that present challenges as they work out their professional and personal lives. I enjoyed their thought-provoking story and loved the the HEA ending to their story. I gave this book a 4.5 instead of 5.0 since I was disappointed that Evan went along with his storyline without challenging it because he felt powerless but he forgot that he belonged to Someone who holds all of the power. I have loved this entire series and hate to see it end. Maybe we’ll see glimpses of the five Spark brothers and their families in the new series to come. If you haven’t read this book or others in the series I recommend them! I received an ARC and all opinions mentioned in this review are my own.
I have so enjoyed reading about the Spark brothers and this last book in this series was no exception. I especially liked how faith and God were woven into this story and that those values held true for Evan Spark and Emma Dearan, his girlfriend. It was a touching story of their romance, the trials and tribulations of being in show business and dealing with paparazzi , and mean girl costars who lie to scheme. I also liked the importance of family in their role in the lives of Evan and Emma. I was so glad the author provided an epilogue that tied up the series and I cannot wait to see what Liwen Y. Ho writes in her new spin-off series. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
The sparks fly for Emma and Evan as they navigate through uncomfortable situations as actors, a scheming co-star, and the paparazzi. It is not easy being a believer in the Hollywood scene and sometimes God has things happen that is for the best as these characters find out. A fantastic end to this series. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
I really enjoyed reading An Extra Spark. Evan and Emma were both delightful. I so truly dislike manipulative people, people with money who have to have their way no matter the cost, and the entire “star” culture. It was not easy for Evan and Emma to remain Christian and actors. The ending was absolutely perfect. This story demonstrates how honest communication is so very important. Kudos to Ms. Ho for a well written romance.
I really loved reading this book. The characters are wonderful and relatable. They struggle with doubts and get side tracked from having their focus on God every once in a while. A very great reminder on where our focus should be!
Wonderful story and characters!
Wow, I’m really sad to see this series end. I have loved the Spark brothers and the wonderful women they have found through this journey. I love Evan and Emma! Their faith, love and concern for others was so beautiful and inspiring. The drama that we come to expect from movies and shows was definitely evident in this book. I felt like I was back in high school or even jr. high with all the scheming going on. It was really crazy at times, but thankfully the Sparks pulled it off. This was a great story and a great ending to a fun series.
This is a really good book! Both of the people are actors playing younger people. They are trying to stay out of the newsmen’s way. I recommend this book to anyone who reads romance books!
The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I didn’t like it that the male star did the bedroom scene. I know he struggled with it, so that helped me like him. But just felt a little conflicted on it with his strong Christian faith and not wanting to kiss his own girlfriend, but kissed and assumed more than kissing in his acting career. But I guess this is what make us think and it is “just a story”.
I received an advanced ebook and I am voluntarily leaving my review.
I have loved this series, and this final book is like the icing on the cake. The Spark brothers are a close-knit group. Evan is the youngest brother. Both he and Emma are very likable characters and have to make some tough decisions to be part of Hollywood and be true to their faith. The plot has twists and turns that often are the result of a jealous co-star. The story moves quickly, and the dialogue flows well. There is a perfect HEA for this couple and an epilogue. I would recommend this to family and friends, to clean/wholesome romance readers, and to Christian romance readers. I received a complimentary copy. I chose to write a review and share my opinion of this great romance.
Another great read by Liwen Y. Ho. This is Evan and Emma’s story. The author does a beautiful job bringing their story to life with her descriptive writing and detailed scenes. She builds the story and pulls you in and before you know it you’re at the end. I loved reading their story and would recommend this book/series.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
“There are plenty of times when we can’t change the circumstances, and the circumstances end up changing us. But we can choose whether we end up changing for the better or for worse.”
Oh, what a satisfying, fulfilling conclusion to The Sparks Brothers Series! I have followed the series from the beginning and loved getting to know Aiden, Brandon, Colin, and Darren. But Evan! He’s the darling of the family and also the youngest. And so honorable, compassionate, loving, and passionate. His relationship with Emma is incredibly sweet, pure, and delightful. Emma is an unlikely Hollywood hopeful with her shy, innocent, and naive nature but they make a great team together. Their trials, doubts, challenges, and insecurities while working in Hollywood are real and tangible as is their solid faith in God and in each other that help them thrive.
For those who enjoy well-written, short, sweet, and encouraging contemporary romance, this book (and the entire series) is for you! I can’t wait to read more about Seth, Brandon’s adopted son, in the author’s next YA series.
I received a copy of the book from the author and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
That was so realistic it was painful to see the young couple manipulated… and so gratifying to remember who they were dealing with. They knew they could trust each other… once they got over their initial freak-outs. And they both knew without a shadow of doubt that God is in control and He can be trusted with their futures.
I can’t believe I just finished An Extra Spark, the last book in the Spark series… or is it?
I loved getting to see Evan and Emma’s story unfold. While I must admit I wasn’t exactly “eagerly waiting” for it (like Brandon or Darren’s stories), I did end up liking it and enjoyed getting to see more of the brothers and their significant others, as well as how much they’ve grown, plus how they support each other 🙂
Being, and especially working, in Hollywood is not for the faint of heart. And that’s exactly what I learned from Evan and Emma (though especially the latter). While I didn’t look forward to the drama that would unfold throughout the book (as the blurb clearly indicates), I believe it was handled out just great. I also loved getting to see Emma come to stand up for herself and learn to fight her own battles. As for Evan, I certainly loved his willingness to admit he wasn’t perfect (though is anyone, really?), and his openness to share about his faith.
As for the ending (the last chapter and the epilogue), it was just perfect! I think it sets it perfectly for the author’s next (spin-off) series, which, admittedly, I can’t wait for!
The perfect ending to a great series, and completely recommended 😉
I loved this book!!! This is my favorite of the series. I love how Evan and Emma struggled with insecurities the other really didn’t know about, until finally they talked about it!! There were a few times I wanted to go into the book and slap some sense into Evan, which is when I really love the character, just want him to wise up. He did finally figure things out, and I love the way their story ended!! Goes to show that communication is one of the keys to a good relationship, with the most important key being that God is in the middle of it leading the way!!
