A pursuit is underway…From the hallowed halls of London’s Almack’s to the unkempt taverns of Drury Lane, from whispered words in glittering theatres to seductive encounters in Vauxhall Gardens – an earl must pursue his lady.Propriety be damned. Anything is allowed. But for success, the Earl of Kelmarsh must heed the Rules of the Rogue…A resolute lady.Miss Sophie Beckford escaped to Ireland … lady.
Miss Sophie Beckford escaped to Ireland after her almost betrothed broke her heart. Now a year later, she’s back in London – stronger, better attired, armed with her Irish cousin and determined not to fall for the blackguard’s wiles again.
A desperate gentleman.
What’s an earl to do when his almost betrothed refuses to speak to him, hear him out or even look at him after a misunderstanding of gargantuan proportions?
With dubious assistance from a roguish marquess, a strait-laced duke, and even the occasional poet and famous actor throwing in their sixpence, the earl will try any ruse, any rule in the book to recapture Sophie’s heart.
Failure is not an option.
Sensual Regency romance with warmth and wit. These books can be read stand-alone or as part of the Rules of the Rogue Series.
1 – An Earl in Wolf’s Clothing

I have just discovered a new author! All of the books in Emily’s Rules of the Rogue series are fantastic!!! I definitely recommend them!!
An Earl in Wolf’s Clothing is by far the best historical romance I have read. It has everything I could want from this genre; action, humor, witty banter, loveable characters, romance, and topped off with a little bit steam. I think I smiled/chuckled at the dialogue between the men as much as I gushed over how hard Bram worked trying to win back the love of his beloved Sophie. I highly recommend this book, and all the other books written by the talented Emily Windsor.
I had never read any of Ms Windsor’s books but can truly say she is an excellent writer. I look forward to reading about the duke in the next book in the series.
When I first read the blurb for this book, I thought that this was going to be a typical lovers separated by a misunderstanding story, and to a certain extent it was, but it was also so much more!
The opens with Sophie Beckford searching for her betrothed, Bram, the Earl of Kelmarsh. They are to supposed to be in the ballroom announcing their betrothal but he has gone missing and when Sophie finally locates him – he is with another woman! Sophie overhears their conversation and is heartbroken, she rips off her betrothal ring and leaves the ball without speaking to him. Days later, her family leaves for Ireland with Bram in hot pursuit.
Bram just misses the boat taking them to Ireland and for reasons unknown to the reader, he is not able to follow her. He has secrets that he cannot share with Sophie, he is a spy for the crown and the meeting she overheard was not what it seemed, but sworn to secrecy and unable to explain, it appears that he will lose his lady love, but he is not willing to give her up without a fight – he is unable to go to Ireland, but he writes to her and sends gifts, hoping to win her back. Now almost a year later, she is back in London, but she is not the Sophie that he remembers.
Armed with a new wardrobe and her feisty Irish cousin, Sophie is back and determined to forget Bram and his betrayal. She makes her intentions painfully clear to Bram when he corners her at Almack’s and tries to explain the misunderstanding without revealing his secrets.
With the “help” of his fellow agents, Bram sets out to complete a final mission for the crown, retire and win back his lady. Ah, the best laid plans………
This story is both amusing and heartfelt. I loved that Sophie didn’t immediately forgive Bram, she made him work for her forgiveness. And I loved that Bram never gave up, he knew he hurt her (unintentionally) and owned it, while I wouldn’t say he groveled, he did work hard for her forgiveness. The book has both amusing and tense moments, a great cast of secondary characters, secrets, revelations, kidnapping, some warmish love scenes and finally a very hard earned HEA.
I had not read any of Ms. Windsor’s previous books, but after reading this book I am definitely going to be checking out her backlist while I wait for the next book in this series!
*I am voluntarily leaving a review for an copy that was provided to me by the author – all opinions in this review are my own*
I loved this book!!
Not your run of the mill plot. This was the first I’ve read of Emily Windsor and I was pleasantly surprised. Will read more of her work.
This was a fun read. I loved the interactions between Sophie and Bram. With all the subterfuge to keep Bram’s secret, Sophie’s ability to make the best of a situation was great. There were laughs as Sophie and her friend do their own sneaking around. Bram was a determined and gallant young man, and I fell in love with him. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading the next.
I received a copy of this book through Book Obsessed Chicks Review team, and this is my unsolicited review.
Miss Sophie Beckford has been recovering from a broken heart, but now it’s time to return to London. The man who broke her heart is still intent on winning her back, but will not be honest with her. She has grown up a lot in her time with her outspoken cousin.
Abraham Wolcott, Earl of Kelmarsh is a spy for the Crown. He has asked to be released from service, but that could take time. He needs to win back his love, but cannot tell the truth. He is taking advice from his friends on how to get back in her good graces. Silly man.
We have lots of wonderful characters in this and I’m sure we will get to meet them again.
A funny and exciting story full of intrigue and danger.
I loved it.
A wonderful start to the series
This is a wonderfully written start to what promises to be a great series. The plot is full of emotional twists and turns, as well as a bit of suspense. The characters are portrayed with a strength to be envied. This is a great book for anybody who loves steamy historical romances, that have plenty of suspense.
Fast Paced Delight!
Bram is a Spy and this just cannot be made known, obviously! So then what’s he to do when his intended overhears a would-be amorous discussion behind doors.
How to win her back is the problem!
Sophie is so hurt and humiliated. She does what she thinks is the best thing … Run to her family in Ireland for an extended stay.
Humor, tears and pure enjoyment took me through this story and what a wonderful journey it was!
I loved that when one of the main characters was weak, the other knew exactly how to encourage and help the other.
Bram is strong and romantic while Sophie is very confused and upset by his supposed betrayal.
I became very fond of Sophie’s cousin. She has a mouth on her second to none!
The story is filled with many moments of romance, intrigue, angst and humor. The characters are well-rounded and each one a delight. Of course there is a “bad man” too.
This is a fast paced delight and not to be missed!
