Claire and Benjamin’s story in Lindsay Marie Miller’s An Arrangement (Summer in New York Book 1) is a fun one. A marriage of convenience / friends to lovers novel with a neat premise, well done plot and enjoyable characters. A nice fun read. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on with praises. The book deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is fun to read, and it is easy to recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
Lindsey Marie Miller, An Arrangement, Summer in New York series, book 1.
As an Hidden Gems ARC reader I received this book for free. And promised an honest review. Here it is. English isn’t my first language. Sorry for errors.
Rating: 4 stars (of 5).
In general: From an arrangement to love.
Main characters:
– Claire Andrews (almost 21 years old).
Daughter of a successful stock broker of Wall Street. Her dad died a few years ago. Her mom kept living too luxuriously so there’s a money problem when her younger sister, Amy, needs an experimental treatment for her heart problems. Insurance doesn’t cover the costly treatment. But Claire’s dad left her a generous trust fund, accessible when she’s 21 years old and when she’s married to a wealthy husband, who didn’t choose her for her money. Claire hates to marry to get her trust fund, but she knows that her beloved sister will die if she’s not treated. So she visits a friend from het youth:
– Benjamin (Benny) Lewis (29).
When Claire was 8 years old Benny (16) taught her how to ride a bike. Since that summervacation she had a little crush on him. But he didn’t react: she was too young. In his teens he was a nerd and they had almost no contact anymore. When Claire visits him he’s the CEO of his own billionaire IT firm. Claire proposes a temporary marriage with him to save Amy. Ben agrees. And a few days later their arrangement is signed.
Then the author, Lindsey Marie Miller, describes how the rational contract they have becomes friendship and step by step a romance in spite of Claire’s feelings that an arrangement to get her own money never can be a good start for a real marriage based on love. It results in a lot of complications: family and friends have problems with accepting the couple, Ben spents much of his time working in his firm and Claire feels that she looses her independence and the grasp on her life. In addition she has to cope with a manipulating mother (is her malice not a bit overdone?) while Amy’s health is deteriorating. So it takes time before Claire and Ben reach their happy end.

Excellent contemporary billionaire romance with suspense. Claire’s sister, Amy, is I’ll and needs money to try to save her life. Claire will be 21 soon but until then she can’t touch her inheritance. She has to marry someone wealthy to have the money that’s needed. Ben is several years older than Claire but they’ve known one another a long time. Claire’s mother rushed everything and Claire feels out of control. The story deals with parental issues, selfishness and love of a young girl. Ms. Miller developed a wonderful story and characters. I received a complementary copy of this book via Hidden Gems and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. Miller.
I won a copy of this book from a contest. I was not required to give a favorable review. This was the first book that I have read from Lindsay & I can say she is a very good writer. This is a great book on how sometimes the next generation of people with money are not all as greedy as others. Claire’s little sister was born with a heart defect and she is going to need treatment. Their insurance won’t cover the cost of the experimental treatment who Claire has to figure out how to get the money together, since she thinks her mother in on a tight budget. Her father has passed on and set up a trust for the girls, but there is a condition, Claire has to be 21 and marry someone with the same amount of wealth or more. So she turns to a childhood friend Ben, he is a self made billionaire & she needs to marry him. He was older than her but they were friends. He agrees but things change. And worse her mother had the money all the time she just didn’t want to use it
