Wow this book has so many twists and turns it kept surprising me! I thoroughly devoured this book and loved the characters. Jess is a makeup artist and joins a research study with Dr. Shields. They both tell the story in alternating chapters. Both have so many secrets from the other and it is quite a dance for them to keep them from the other. I highly recommend this book as a thriller and one that will keep you reading until the very end. I received an advanced readers copy from NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press. All opinions are my own.
This was a totally engrossing psychological suspense/thriller. There are lots of ‘what would you do’ moments in this story. My favorite part, the turning point (no spoilers I promise) was the accident. After that happened, this book was hard to put down. From the beginning, I found the main character, Jess or Jessica, totally likeable, a 28 year old girl trying to make it on her own in New York. I think I was disappointed more in the ending because the book ended then I was in the ending itself. This is no fairy tale, there is no happily-ever-after ending. If that’s the type of book you’re looking for, this one is not for you. If you enjoy suspense and psychological thrillers, waiting until the January release date is going to be tough!
Definitely a different type of psychological thriller than I’ve ever read. It was strangely addictive in the way the author seamlessly got me under her spell as quickly as she did Subject 52. This is definitely one of those books that keeps you wondering from page to page what will happen next, and exactly who is really the puppet master. I was kept guessing until I literally got to the end of the epilogue, and still I was surprised at the ending. Very captivating book.

Spellbinding! Compelling! The author weaves a magic of dramatic psychosis that is heart pounding. Each turn of the page draws you deeper into the web that Dr. Shields is creating for Thomas and Jessica. The information is slowly parsed like a dripping spout leaving you desperately wanting to skip to the next page. Brilliantly written!
Well this book was a chiller, I was waiting for something to happen, with this page turner, and wasn’t disappointed.
Jessica is a 28 yr old make up artist, who becomes part of a research project. As it requires more and more of her time, and her secrets are revealed, she realizes that she is becoming frightened and paranoid. She isn’t sure if someone is waiting to hurt her, and who that someone is.
This psychological novel, has more twists and turns and keeps the reader guessing with each turned page. Not a novel to read before bedtime, I can guarantee. Hendricks and Pekkanen came off their debut novel, ready to top it, and they did! They show how the manipulation of someone’s mind, can just about incapacitate them. You won’t be disappointed with this chilling thriller, if you like being scared out of your wits. Watch for its release in January 2019.thank you to St Martins Press for the ARC in return for my honest review.

I really wanted to like this book and was excited for the opportunity to read it thru Netgalley. Unfortunately about halfway thru I found myself wishing it were over. The story was good and had plenty of twist but there was so much unneeded fluff that the intrigue or suspense factor died. Yes this author has a great mind for twisted plots and no you won’t see it happening. I read The Wife Between Us and it was wonderful and this one can be as well with less fluff well that is my humble opinion and that wont stop me from continuing to follow this pair. This book may not be a favorite but it still was quite enjoyable.
This book will hook you from the beginning, then take you on many twists and turns. I love when two authors can write one story with so many layers. Thanks to Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen for accomplishing this. I now have to go read their first endeavor “The Wife Between Us”.
This story is told in two voices. Jess, the struggling make-up artist who finds about a study on morality, which pays well. But, she gets so much more than she bargained for! Dr. Shields, the cold woman heading up the phychology study. This is a book that will have your heart racing and fill you with uneasiness. Characters are complex, with their secrets shaping who they are. The ending will be satisfying, maybe shocking to some.
Thanks to St Martins Press and Net Galley for the ARC, also Goodreads for the physical copy, of this book. Opinion is mine alone!
Oh boy; this is a page turner and you won’t be able to put it down until you finish it and find out all the secrets and twists! It will make you think again before signing up for any sort of survey or research group. It kept me on the edge of my seat going back and forth on who is the real perpetrator here. The characters and setting are so vivid! GREAT READ!!
Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for the ARC
This is a taut and riveting psychological suspense. The tension keeps on building chapter by chapter and you can’t put this book down. Jessica sneaks into a psychological study on morality. What transpires then is nothing short of horrifying. Psychological mind games are played throughout this book. You don’t know who to believe. Once again Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen have woven a story so deep that it entrapped me in its pages. The characters are complex and richly developed. You will know them. The writing is exquisite and the dialogue mesmerizing. This story will make you question everything. I felt the fear and confusion. This book keeps you so focused that nothing else matters. I highly recommend this book to all who want a read that keeps you guessing. Amazing book!! Thank you to NetGalley, Bookish First and the publishers for one of the best books that I have read this year. All opinions are my own.
This book held me captive from the very beginning! I was excited to read it simply because of the authors and I was not disappointed! They really know how to write a book that keeps you guessing until the twisted ending! I recommend this book for fans of B. A. Paris and Pamela Crane. A very good psychological thriller!
Being a psychological thriller junkie and a big fan of this dynamic writing duo I was thrilled to receive a copy from #netgalley.
This is a phenomenally addictive and page turning twisted story with fantastic characters. It had me pulled in right away. I instantly wanted no interruptions and to hide in my cozy reading spot, which is what I did. I read it two sittings with nary a break inbetween the pages I was flipping/swiping like crazy, if that’s possible on a Kindle.
There were lots of gasps, sighs, omg’s out loud. Sarah and Greer are master storytellers and I absolutely devoured this book. Up until the last sentence of the last page I was addicted to the twists, turns, amazing characters and I won’t say more nor spoil a word. It’s that freaking good.
Bravo, ladies for a fantastic thrilling ride. I already want to read it again and have been discussing with a fellow book BFF.
In awe. Now I need a real live copy for my library. This is one to have so you can say, “You must read this!” I foresee gifting this one and it’s a book club dream book. WOW AND WOW! 5 STARS.
After recommending The Wife Between Us to all my friends, just so I could have someone to rave about it with, I jumped on the chance to read a pre-release of An Anonymous Girl the minute it was offered. I just knew the writing duo of Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen would knock their next thriller out of the park, and I was right.
An Anonymous Girl is like a bag of your favorite candy, the kind where you can’t get the pieces into your mouth fast enough. You eat (read) yourself sick, because it’s JUST THAT GOOD.
Not wanting to give too much away, this is a deliciously dark story of obsession, morality, manipulation and betrayal. The chapters in this creepily suspenseful drama alternate point of view between the struggling make-up artist Jessica and the preeminent psychiatrist Dr. Shields. We watch as Jessica, merely wanting to make some extra cash, volunteers for Dr. Shields’s psychological study, which quickly becomes the emotional equivalent of quicksand. And we watch Dr. Shields protect her marriage, by any and all means possible.
So many secrets, so many lies, so much manipulation. Be sure to take your anxiety meds before you pick up this novel.
A big thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an ARC of this thriller in exchange for an honest review.
Jessica is just a small town girl trying to get by in the big city of New York working as a makeup artist. When she falsely enters a study to earn extra funds to help her struggling family, she never expected that she would become part of something she can’t escape. When it comes to truth and lies Dr. Shields is a master at composure and cunning. Entering Dr. Shields study under false pretenses only solidifies Jessie’s part in a ploy that consumes every aspect of her life.
Like a moth to a flame Jessie does not realize the peril of this coupled danger and finds it difficult to tell the truth from falsehoods. She finds herself willing to open up to Dr. Shields in a way she has never been able to before. Even when she feels angered by Dr. Shields actions or lack thereof, Jessie finds herself the obedient subject. She has no idea what the purpose of this morality experiment encompasses, but quickly finds herself left with no other choice. After all, someone so accomplished and put together wouldn’t be involved in anything that would endanger her.
Nothing is coincidence and everything that she questions isn’t as it seems. Entangled in a conflicting situation in a battle for her freedom and sanity, Jessie must free herself, uncover some deadly secrets, liberate herself and others and get some answers for a grieving mother.
Anonymous Girl is the most tangled and sinister psychological thriller I have yet to read. It kept me on edge and just when I felt like I had the plot pegged, the author shocked me and left me hankering for more. The writing methods with all it’s twists and turns was the right amount of skillful and bold
Wow this is a great psychological thriller. I could not stop reading and the final twist at the end…amazing. Read it, you won’t be sorry
I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased, honest, unpaid review.
A thriller told in alternating points of view between Jessica, a 28 year old freelance makeup artist, and Dr. L. Shields. Jessica bluffs her way into a human behavioral study as she needs the extra money. What starts out on the surface of a professional relationship, quickly devolves into something much darker which puts Jess on edge. Is she imaging things or is the Dr. Shield’s manipulating her? How far has Dr. Shield’s reach into her life gone and how does she take back control? This book is paced well and keeps your attention. I wish there had been more backstory on Dr. Shield’s marital life in the time leading up to the events in this book. This book opens the door to step into the mind of someone ruled by obsession. I couldn’t put it down! Thank you @netgalley for an ARC of An Anonymous Girl which releases 01/08/2019.
My review of An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen.
This book turns from something that’s too good to be true to an obsession. In this book we meet Jessica who wants to make some cash she desperately needs. The questions she signs up for on a personality study get more and more intense and personal. Soon Dr Shields only focuses on Jessica. Jessica starts doing things she wouldn’t normally do in her life. Jessica starts looking for a way out, but is there one or is she way over her head?
I loved the writing and the tension is definitely there and this story touches all the bases with surprises all over. Just when you think she has dealt with the whole scheme of things she has another obstacle. It’s hard to figure out who is the shady character, they are all either good or bad.I can see the Authors leaning over their keyboards smiles on their faces as they know they are throwing us another bone, another twist with curves and u-turns. All characters tie in to make this suspenseful. Be careful who you share your secrets with because it can be a whole new ball game. This is a page turner that will have you calling into work.
Thank you Net Gallery and St. Martins Press for this advanced copy to be released January 8th 2019.
Cherie’
I review on Good Reads, Amazon, and Book Bub.
I totally loved the authors’ book The Wife Between Us, so I was thrilled to get an ARC from Netgalley.
Jess sneaks into a psychological study and is befriended by the doctor giving the study, Dr. Lydia Shields. Dr. Shields makes Jess feel special and then “extends” the study for Jess’ cooperation in other tasks for which she is paid handsomely. Jess has problems so this seems like a dream come true at just the right time. However, what cost will Jess have to pay the more she trusts Dr. Shields? And, who IS Dr. Shields, really?
I wanted to read this automatically without even reading the description on Goodreads because I so enjoyed the authors’ first book, I figured this would be just as good. However, I thought it lagged in some places and quite a few times, I found myself thinking, “Who would actually THINK like this?” I just found a lot of parts to be unbelievable and while The Wife Between Us, delivered a twist to me at least, I felt this one did not. Nothing really surprised me, even though I see people on Goodreads praising the twists and turns. I am actually giving it 2.5 stars because it did keep me interested enough to finish it pretty quickly, however, while this may not have been what I was hoping for, I would still recommend it because I think people will really enjoy it upon it’s early 2019 release. Thank you very much, to the publisher and to NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
