A delightful compilation of 4 short Amish stories all centered around a group of young friends who like to sing church hymns.
My favorite story was Great Is Thy Faithfulness as it reminded me to trust God’s will. I needed that reminder in so many areas of my life currently.
Another novel that I would have no problem letting a higher middle-grade reader read. Very clean as you would expect from Any Clipston.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, Zondervan Fiction, through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in the above review are entirely my own.
An Amish Singing by Amy Clipston has a group of young people who are close friends and enjoy singing. There are good messages in these four novellas with the most important being that God has a plan and He knows what is best. We must trust Him. I thought these stories were well-written and engaging. I started reading Hymn of Praise and became engrossed. I quickly read all four of these charming Amish stories. Amy Clipston is a special storyteller. Her love of writing shines in each of her creations along with her love of God. I like how these characters sang for people who were ill and grieving. Their singing uplifted their audience. The sharing of the Amish hymns allowed this group to pass along their love of God and their faith with Englishers. My favorite message from these four novellas was how we need to lean on God in time of great need (illness, hardship, grief). He is there for us and He has a plan. We just need to be faithful. These stories will leave your heart feeling full and soul satisfied. An Amish Singing contains four uplifting novellas about family, friendship, forgiveness, and faith.
This book contains four novellas with a backdrop of the theme of singing. The four entries complete a larger one that continues chronologically and shares the love stories of four Amish couples. The young people love to sing together to bless others, but also each face their own set of problems and misunderstandings. As the couples work through things, their faith grows, as does their love. I liked the first one best, but that could be because it introduced them all. The characters are endearing and the stories tug at the heart. This collection would make great winter reading. I received a copy through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
One of my favorite Amish authors, Amy Clipston, never disappoints! I loved this book of four short stories! My favorite of the four was Great Is Thy Faithfulness. I have always found Amish signings to be interesting, and so this book with stories centered around Amish signings really interested me whether this is your 50th Amish fiction book, or your first, you can’t help but love this author’s stories and characters.
I received a copy of this book from the author, but was not required to give it a positive review. This is my honest opinion of this book.
As usual Mrs. Clipston wrote another fantastic book!!
This book contains 4 novella stories.
It is a fantastic book!
The book is not just about Amish but English as well and is centered around friendships and music and how each young lady deals with trusting God and navigating friendships, relationships and trials
An Amish Singing is a collection of four stories that all have the same theme: young Amish friends gathering together regularly to enjoy each other’s company and sharing their love of music with others. Each story highlights one of Amy Clipston’s favorite hymns as its basis and the emotions found in these stories resonate with all of us: pain, grief, fear, and guilt; feeling unworthy and unloved; learning to trust, and finally, the overwhelming joy that comes from forgiveness.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow once said that music is the universal language and I believe this is especially true with religious hymns and gospel music. An Amish Singing is a beautiful acknowledgement of the power of sacred music in our lives and Clipston once again showcases her wonderful writing talent! I recommend this book to all who enjoy Amish fiction and Christian romance.
I received a copy of this book from the author. There was no obligation to write a positive review. These are my own thoughts.
An Amish Singing, by Amy Clipston, is a delightful collection of four, interrelated novellas featuring stories of faith, family, friendship, and sweet romances. As close friends gather to share hymns of praise with others, relationships are nurtured, friendships are strengthened, and love is given an opportunity to bloom. With the message of a classic, beloved hymn adding a meaningful theme to each story, this book is relevant and uplifting.
With a natural flow from one novella to the next, the four special stories in this collection are linked together through the passage of time, the power of faith, and the bonds of friendship. Set in a small, Amish community over the course of several months, these four stories unfold, revealing a likable cast of characters who join together to bless their friends and neighbors by singing hymns of praise. In each of these stories, the characters build connections with each other as they overcome insecurities, misunderstandings, and doubts. The characters offer forgiveness, embrace new perspectives, and find more reasons to open their hearts to new dreams and unexpected blessings.
I truly enjoyed being in the charming, rural world depicted in this book. As I read each of the four stories in this collection, I was easily invested in the plot of each novella, and I quickly developed a genuine emotional connection to the characters within each story. Their struggles, successes, motivations, fears, and perseverance kept me interested and inspired from the first page to the last. An Amish Singing is an endearing book. Abounding with warmth and plenty of heart, this book is enjoyable and engaging. I recommend it wholeheartedly.
*I was given a copy of this book by the author. A review was not required. The review I have written is voluntary and contains opinions that are entirely my own.
Four novellas in one book which draw you into the Amish world. No matter what age a reader is, they will find this book very enjoyable.A few years ago I was able to hear a group of Amish men and women sing several hymns and I was captivated at how beautiful they sounded. Great harmony, timing, and sound without any musical instruments. I was so impressed! While reading the stories in An Amish Singing, I felt like I could hear them all singing! What an enjoyable book!
The Amish have a love of music, and author Amy Clipston shows us that in her book, An Amish Singing. All four stories feature a group of young people from Bird-in-Hand, who love to sing for the enjoyment of others. I really liked that all four stories are about the same group of friends, each one focusing on a particular couple.
Clipston’s characters, and settings, are charming. I found myself fully immersed as I read these stories. Each one has a different set of circumstances that challenges faith, yet each person is drawn to God and how He works in their lives.
It was fun seeing how a couple of the families open their homes to Englishers through serving dinners. I myself have enjoyed such dinners and I encourage you to try it some time.
All in all, a really good book if you enjoy Amish fiction.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
All of these stories were great! Each one was different, but had such a good message about second chances! I love that about Amy Clipston’s books. When you read her books you get a great story with a great message! This makes me want one more story to see what is in store for all of these characters.

In each of these novellas the young people of Bird -In-Hand join together to go and sing to the ones that are sick and unable to go to church. They have been friends growing up together. I was surprised at these young people how caring they were. I really enjoyed these novellas and how they continued on from the last one.

This is a set of four stories that are all linked together through a group of Amish friends. In each story there is a bit of romance and a lot of inspiration. I love the characters and each story. I love the idea of the friends getting together to sing to some of their friends or relatives that are feeling down. Friends, yes this is a story of the love and companionship of Amish friends, they are there for one another in good and bad times.
New and old friends are welcome, and they do a giving type of singing. The giving that warms the souls of those in need, and this group is all about sharing.
We are given a gift of some sweet romance, and some paring up, and we journey with them as they find what is right before their eyes. The caring for their fellow community members is so beautiful, they sure knew how to brighten their day.
You can sit down and read one, but you probably won’t stop with that, and before I knew it the last page was turned.
I received this book through NetGalley and the Publisher Zondervan. and was not required to give a positive review.
Beautiful stories filled with love and uniqueness of the Amish people. I’ve always been intrigued by the Amish singing and Amy Cliptson in these collection of stories brought life into it and made it all enjoyable in ways I’ve never read before.
I loved the sense of belonging and close knit families caring each other even when they are not related by blood. I loved how friendships turned into more. I loved reading how they protective they are of their culture and ways and how kind they are to non Amish people, in subtle ways sharing the love of Christ with them. It was admirable to read how eager they were of sharing the Gospel with others using Hymns and their traditional Amish songs.
Just reading about the dishes in this book makes one hungry! Lol
Amy Cliptson with ease and skill writes beautiful Amish stories filled with love, family and faith. Leaving a lot to imagination.
I recieved a copy of this book from Netgalley and this is my honest opinion.
This book contains four sweet novellas. A group of young people in an Amish community find a way to bring happiness to others in their community who have been sick or grieving and to sing and share their Gospel with non-Amish guests at dinners served in an Amish home. The stories share a sweet story of romance among those in the singing group. There is continuity in the stories, even though each features a different couple finding the way together.
I loved the stories and each one was enjoyable to read. The stories are uplifting and has its own Amish charm. The stories are of faith, love and kindness.
If you enjoy Amish books, you will definitely enjoy this book. Very fun read and inspirational stories.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Zondervan through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
