Can he teach her survival skills– without endangering his heart? When Sabrina Bell taps Leith Jordan for a crash course in conquering the great Alaskan outdoors, he figures he’s on safe ground. They’re polar opposites and his spectacular home state’s just a pit stop for the hotshot fashionista. So no one’s more surprised than Leith when he starts falling for her. Now he’s a man with a plan: … man with a plan: get Sabrina to fall in love with Alaska…and, hopefully, with him.

What is more important love or security?
An Alaskan Proposal by Beth Carpenter is delightful. I enjoyed visiting the spectacular places in Alaska along with Sabrina. Did you know that there is silicon cookware for camping? Yep, there is, and it collapses for easy storage and to fit in your backpack. Apparently, I need to get out more.
So, the story has many fabulous characters, and Ms. Carpenter does a great job of showing how flawed and yet loving each of them can be.
Sabrina Bell
Sabrina is one of those people who look put together and to some very girly. You know the type perfect nails, hair never out of place, wears fancy clothes and snobby. However, if you thought that you would be very wrong.
Although, Sabrina is reserved, as she was hurt before and that has affected her life. She is also extremely money conscious and a hard worker. Sabrina also has a big heart which you don’t see until you get through the facade that she projects. I loved seeing her allow herself to grow with Leith and his friends.
Sabina has taken a job with an outfitting company, and they have placed her in the Anchorage, Alaska store to train. The only problem is she doesn’t know anything about the outdoors and to advance she needs to learn everything like now. This is where Leith comes in.
Leith Jordan
Leith works for a company that teaches survival training skills, along with first aid and many other things. He is a great outdoorsman and bachelor. The last thing that he wants is a woman in his life. You see, Leith was also hurt by his ex-wife.
Leith grew up in Anchorage, his family lives there, and all of his friends are there. He is adamant that this is where he will spend his life.
There are lots of things that I like about Leith, like the way his smile lights up his face, that children are drawn to him, his love of animals, and loyalty and willingness to help his family.
There was only one flaw that I found with Leith, and that was that he was judgmental. Well, at first anyway.
Random things that I liked about the story
• The dogs, Boomer, and Tal. They have such personalities, and they are a big part of the story.
• Learning about outdoor gear.
• Walter and his mustache. He is such a cool boss.
• Fishing for Kings and tackling the fish.
• That Leith didn’t just take Sabrina camping and hiking all of the time, he took her to museums and exhibits in town too.
• The Jordan family. They are all so sweet, especially Emma.
• The reindeer farm and wedding venue.
• Last but not least, the proposal. There are a couple of things about this, but you’ll have to read the book.

My rating for An Alaskan Proposal by Bet Carpenter is five stars. The story was fabulously written, and descriptions of the scenery were superb. It makes me want to visit Alaska even more. The characters all had their quirks and traits.

It was the Alaskan setting of this series that initially drew me to it, and it’s Beth Carpenter’s smooth writing, warm characters, and creative storytelling that keep me coming back to her books. Northern Lights is a great series of stories with connected characters that you get to revisit, although each story stands alone. The stories are clean and I’ve greatly enjoyed each one.
First of all, the setting is fabulous, and I love visiting Alaska through the author’s eyes. From vast landscapes, to local places and outdoor activities, to special events like fishing for king salmon, Carpenter creates a vivid sense of place and imparts some fascinating tidbits of information at the same time.
Another strength is rich characterization, with Leith and Sabrina being warm, talented, caring, and so very real. Both had been hurt in the past and were wary of romantic relationships. I made Leith’s initial mistake in thinking that Sabrina was superficial at first, for “he suspected her biggest talent was looking good” – but a world of complexity slowly unfolds. Because of Sabrina’s past, she had “discovered that security was an illusion. That counting on someone else for love and support was a gamble.”
All he had to do was teach her a few basic camping skills. How hard could that be?
The chemistry and banter between Leith and Sabrina make for great reading, and the humor is delightful. The camping trip scenes in the beginning are downright funny, and as for the nickname Explosion Girl … just read the book to find out! And be sure to notice the shadows in the tent on the cover. That’s the two precious dogs, Tal and Boomer. I may be a cat person, but these two stole my heart – as well as the show.
There’s also a serious note that I loved, a good life lesson about finding your purpose in life. Sabrina’s design skills that have lain dormant come into their own, and Leith left a previous career to become a survival trainer. This is just a great series that I wish could go on and on, for there’s many more stories to tell. Maybe the story of Leith’s sister, Volta, will be next?
Highly recommended.
I received a copy of this book through Prism Tours. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Absolutely loved it. The scenery was so well written that I felt like I was there. A truly heartwarming story with wonderful characters. I was given a free ARC by the author. My review is freely and honestly given
You can’t go long experiencing Beth Carpenter’s writing voice. The characters in this story–dogs included–are wonderful.
First impressions should never last. And that’s the case when Leith meets Sabrina. The woman appears to be exactly the opposite of anyone he wants to hang out with—clueless about the outdoors but deceitful about it and high maintenance. Yet, when Sabrina strikes a deal with him, he unearths the many layers of this woman.
Despite her new job working for a large outdoor outfitter, Sabrina’s inexperience when it comes to anything outdoorsy is often humorous, but her drive and kindness are what leave the most lasting impression of her.
Through Sabrina’s eyes, Beth Carpenter gives readers a taste of the majesty and beauty of Alaska and through Leith and his niece, the readers get to experience some of the many adventures. Oh, and there’s a sweet romance full of mutual attraction and plenty of chemistry brewing in there too.

An Alaskan Proposal is the fourth installment from Beth Carpenter’s series, Northern Lights. It is, also, my first introduction to the series, as well as, her writing. It is fun, delightful, and sweet. I just loved the chemistry between Sabrina and Leith. They were so fun together and I could not help but to giggle at some of the scenes. Just a wonderful beautiful and adorable story. I could not put it down until I was finished with it a few hours later.
I am giving An Alaskan Proposal a very well deserved five plus stars and I highly recommend it. I can not wait to go back to read the previous books in the series and look forward to more by Beth Carpenter in the future.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
Another wonderful book by Author Beth Carpenter.
When Sabrina’s job ends due to the store closing she takes a manager trainee job for an outdoor outfitters in Alaska. She’s never been camping in her life but with Leith’s help she just might pull this off.
Sweet and charming, will keep you reading until the very end.
An Alaskan Proposal is an exceptional romance from Beth Carpenter. I really enjoy Ms. Carpenter’s stories. Her characters are so human – warm, caring and just like friends. This book is the story of management trainee Sabrina and wilderness survivalist Leith. Sabrina is supposed to know about the great outdoors. She hires Leith to teach her what she does not know. There is a lot of humor – especially when Sabrina earns the nickname “Explosion Girl.” This is a heart warming tale of changing life expectations and romance. I highly recommend it!
Great story full of action, survival, danger and the possibility of love. Each page is filled with excitement. The Alaskan setting is amazing. I received a complimentary copy of this book. This is my personal honest opinion. No review was required.
Sabrina moves to Alaska in a management training program, for a wilderness outfit, she is a fast learner but does not know anything about camping, Leith is a wilderness trainer, the first time they meet is when she put unopen cans of beans In the fire, you guessed it, they exploded she talks him into helping her learn about camping so her boss does not find out. if you like a well written strong characters, you have to read the book, I love the descriptions about the scenery and animals .love it I was given a copy of the book but this is an honest review.
Beth Carpenter’s descriptively toned voice makes us feel like we’re right there in picturesque Alaska in the latest from her Northern Lights series! The gorgeous setting is divine, the characters nab our attention quickly and their sweet love story warms soul throughout. Lots of heart, riddled with emotion and just an overall fun read. A nice addition to this wonderful series!
Sabrina Bell only plans to be in Alaska for a short time, but she’s determined to learn her way around the outdoors in order to win over her temporary employer. Meeting Leith turns out to be just what she needed because he’s a pro at all things Alaska.
Leith Jordan teaches survival skills for a living, but when he sees this misfit prima donna, he doesn’t think there’s a chance she’ll be able to pull her own weight against the wilderness. To his surprise, she takes to the outdoors quickly and her sweet nature has him falling for her in no time. Only trouble is … she’s not sticking around!
3.5-4 stars.
Well, this was fun.
Here we have Sabrina and Leith. She’s new to Alaska, and is also a temporary home for her; contrary to Leith, who’s lived there since forever and has no intentions of leaving.
Sabrina asks for his help in trying to fit in with her new job (‘cause she knows nothing about the outdoors) and he needs her help in a few friends/family situations.
Anyway, I loved reading about these two, how different they seemed but the more we got to know them, the more we realized they were kinda perfect for each other, lol. I loved Sabrina and how surprising she was, you never expected her to do certain things, and it was particularly surprising to Leith as well. Leith was cool as well and I liked how he opened up to her.
I also loved their trekking and camping travels, Alaska sound amazing! <3 <3
This was an all around fun and delightful story.
*Thank you to the author for providing a copy for which I’m giving my honest opinion*
