An Alaskan Family Christmas
Beth Carpenter
A sweet romance with just a touch of mystery.
Natalie and Tanner draw you in from the first time they meet on the train from Fairbanks to Alaska. The adventures from sledding, Northern Lights, earthquake, Christmas, and hunting for Tanner’s cousin, Dane, gives you a taste of life in the cold north that has you wanting to keep reading in hopes of a happy ever after.
A truly heartwarming tale.
I received an ARC for an honest review.
How far would you go to help your friend? Natalie Weiss is determined to help her friend Brooke find the father of her baby, Dane Rockford. Natalie is convinced that he is lying to Brooke about who he is. She can’t believe that in only two weeks, her friend and the missing man fell in love and that he is coming back.
Natalie thinks he must be married; otherwise he would have given her a phone number or a real address. Since he only has a post office box, Natalie has been staking out the joint to find out more about this guy.
When a man finally shows up to pick up the mail, Natalie follows him…to the train station. The man gets on a train, so Natalie does too. After all, she’s got plans to fly to Anchorage, and the train is heading for Anchorage. She’ll end up in the same place. It’ll just take a little longer.
Things get super awkward when Natalie, thinking another train will be by in hours rather than days, gets off of the train to follow the guy, whom she thinks is Dane (but is actually his cousin Tanner!), to his address, get the address to Brooke, and head on to Anchorage. Ah, but, the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry…
Those plans going awry is what makes An Alaskan Family Christmas so much fun! I used to read the same Christmas books year after year, and though they still warmed my heart, it’s nice to find new ones to love. Since this book is in the Harlequin Heartwarming division, it is a clean romance, and I know a lot of us appreciate that fact.
I think that at one time or another, most of us have longed to visit Alaska. It seems like another world. I’ve watched programs on TV where they cover the lives of people living in remote areas of Alaska. Those people are true pioneers! Needless to say, I loved this Alaskan setting. The author does a marvelous job painting a picture of the cabin and its surrounding land. Oh and the aurora borealis…how magnificent that would be to see!
As much as I loved the setting of An Alaskan Family Christmas, it is the characters that will worm their way into your hearts…especially Tanner’s nieces. They act like typical little girls and definitely typical sisters! I have 2 sisters, so I know how easily we got into arguments about who sat where and who got what! These girls, who don’t act like perfect little angels, help make the book more realistic. Of course, I was entertained by the interactions among all of Tanner’s family and Natalie as they spent several days in the cabin together. The author’s description of the time the family spent together at the cabin really warmed my heart. No cell phones; no television; just good old fashioned board games, stories, baking, and more.
I think that An Alaskan Family Christmas will warm your heart as much as it did mine. This is a book you won’t want to put down, nor will you want it to end! Get a copy ASAP and enjoy!
What starts out as a mission to help a friend in need, becomes a place to call home with a different future than planned for Natalie Weiss.
Natalie’s friend Brooke has a secret and she needs Natalie’s help in finding the reclusive man named Dane. However, Natalie gets more than she bargained for when she mistakes Dane’s cousin, Tanner, for him. Natalie is no super sleuth, she barely kept hidden, but her trying to follow him without getting caught was less than stellar. And a bit on the humorous side.
As circumstances dictated, Natalie finds that she rather likes Tanner and his family. They are very close, not something Natalie has experienced before. Natalie just wants to find Dane, to deliver Brook’s letter and move on to her new job out of state in New Mexico. Nothing else. But things begin to get complicated.
I really liked this close-knit family. Natalie was also very loyal to her friend. Doing whatever she could to make her comfortable and well cared for. And by the end, the author made me care about all the characters. Even the recluse and missing Dane. This Christmas story was full of surprises, both good and unexpected.
I received a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
‘She’d gotten on that train to follow who she thought was a two-timing sleaze, determined to hold him responsible for his actions. Instead, she’d found a thoughtful, family-oriented man who made her feel as though she belonged. And when he kissed her, she’d never wanted it to end.’
I love Christmas stories and this one is especially good. A case of mistaken identity offers Natalie Weiss the chance to help a friend, witness a loving family in action, and experience a Christmas like she’s never known before. She also discovers a special connection with one member of that family but will it last once the magic of Christmas is over? Is Tanner Rockford as wonderful as he seems?
Author Beth Carpenter has written another story with Alaska as the beautiful setting and it offers intriguing characters, sweet chemistry, and fun family moments. It’s the perfect tale to put you into the Christmas spirit and I recommend An Alaskan Family Christmas to all who enjoy clean romance and heartwarming holiday stories.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author via Prism Book Tours. . A favorable review was never required and no monetary compensation was given. These are my own thoughts.
Thank you in advance to the author, Beth Carpenter, for providing a complimentary review copy through Prism Book Tours. A positive review was not required, and all words are my own.
I am ALWAYS up for a good Christmas story, and definitely a cute one. This cover really stood out and I just HAD to read it. While it is part of the author’s “Northern Lights” series, it does seemingly act as a standalone. Though I would be interested in the other stories as this is first I’ve read by the author.
Right off, I sort of had mixed feelings about this plot – following a guy, staying with his family, trying to see what was going on. But, this really seemed to work. It really worked!
The characters were just as sweet as could be and definitely folks I wouldn’t mind spending the holidays with. Tanner, his mom, his sister, and his nieces were ADORABLE!
Brooke was sweet and really the readers don’t get enough of her.
Natalie was someone that I waffled back and forth on. There were times I REALLY liked her, then there were moments (especially towards the end) that I just didn’t know what to think of her.
In the beginning, Natalie is looking out for her best friend and accidentally confuses Tanner for Dane. From there, the mistakes pile up resulting in her getting off a train and stranded.
I loved how Tanner easily figured out she was watching him. But, I also liked how he stepped in to help her as well. In seeing his family, it helps Natalie to look past some of her own family issues. It was sweet the way she took to the two kids and how easily they accepted her.
The revelation as to why she is there comes in chapter three (3), yet the family wasn’t told until chapter 11.
One of my favorite parts was the incident with the moose.
The readers are treated to two romances in one: Tanner/Natalie and Dane/Brooke. Though Dane and Brooke’s is more or less at the end and wrapped up fairly quickly.
I LOVED the idea of “basic” living during the holidays and the cabin sounded so cozy, though I will admit – I will not stay ANYWHERE without decent plumbing. It was also sweet the way Tanner and Natalie played Scrabble, which I love a good game of.
They find each other oddly companionable as they wait to hear from Dane, who then doesn’t show up for Christmas.
Natural disasters, boiling snow for water, sledding, and sled rides all culminate in a beautiful story.
Dane eventually shows up in chapter 14, and his absence is quickly explained.
Natalie is still, despite growing attracting and feelings for Tanner, heading to New Mexico. That was one of the things that I was split on – she didn’t want a relationship to cost her a career. Though I understood why, it was a “downer” in an otherwise upbeat, beautiful story.
This was an easy read despite the long chapters. And, the only reason it took me SO long to read it – I am in the middle of NaNoWriMo. It was terribly hard to put down.
Unlike a lot of the Heartwarming genre I’ve read, this had little conflict between the two main characters. In the beginning and almost the end, Natalie was a bit insufferable. But, mostly she was quite likeable. And, like her, I do like to read. FYI –> this is my 116th book (physical no less) for the year.
This is a clean read, and while not exactly “inspirational”, there are some references to grace and prayer during meal times. There are no religious references though.
I love this part on page 133 – “some of the best things in life happened when plans went awry”. That is sometimes so very true.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. And, I am sure fans of the author and genre will undoubtedly enjoy this fun, old-fashioned, sweet romp through the snow Christmas read that plays out much like a beloved Hallmark movie.
Beth Carpenter’s voice is shining bright with the latest in her Northern Lights series. The characters are well developed and a joy to get to know, the holiday atmosphere is heartwarmingly real and the happily ever after is super satisfying. I loved every single minute of AN ALASKAN FAMILY CHRISTMAS!
Natalie is easy to like and understand once we know her background. Watching her get to enjoy a holiday like none she’s ever known is really sweet.
Tanner is a doll. He’s downhome and humble when it comes to life in general. I loved his family and the holiday they gave Natalie.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who enjoys a heartwarming story revolving around the gorgeous scenery of Alaska.
An Alaskan Family Christmas was such a fun and enjoyable Christmas story. I really felt like it was Christmas time as I read about the Rockford family’s various Christmas traditions. I loved that they all got together at the rustic family cabin for their holidays.
It was sweet to watch as Natalie got to be part of a real family Christmas, rather than what she had been used to growing up. I loved the way the Rockford family took her right in and made her part of the celebrations.
Natalie and Tanner had a great rapport and great chemistry together. Their relationship progressed at a nice pace as the story moved through the pages. I really enjoyed seeing them grow closer and it was fun to see how things worked out regarding Brooke and Tanner’s cousin, Dane.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this holiday story! It was easy to read and I loved all the characters in the book especially Natalie and Tanner. It was so funny how Natalie tried to tail Tanner without being too obvious on the train. What an amazing friend Natalie is!
The author was so descriptive with their adventures in Alaska-all the way down to the weather, the Moose escapade and snowshoeing. I felt like I was there camping in the cabin with them! I loved how Tanner’s family embraced Natalie and all the family love and holiday spirit they shared through out the book. There was some light, clean romance towards the end but it wasn’t the focus of the story.
Highly recommend this fun, lighthearted holiday story which will definitely make you smile and laugh.
I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
The reason I return to Beth Carpenter’s books again and again is that she gives readers an insider’s view of Alaska. Sure, she highlights several of the more well-known areas, but also the off-the-beaten path stops as well. And combine that with Christmas in a remote cabin? Oh yeah, there’s a lot to recommend An Alaskan Family Christmas.
A case of mistaken identity and an error in judgement leaves Natalie stranded. If not for the kindness of Tanner Rockford and his family, Christmas could be a bust for Natalie. But is she willing to risk the best possible gift of all?
Carpenter does not skimp on the holiday cheer in this story. From Christmas tree hunting to decorating to baking to the gifts on Christmas morn, the holiday resonates on each page. If you’re looking for a story to get you in the holiday spirit, this is it.
Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
An Alaskan Family Christmas is another addition to Beth Carpenter’s Northern Lights series. Even though it is part of a series, it can be read as a stand along. I thought this sweet romance was a really good read. It was fun getting to know Natalie and Tanner. I was entertained with this story from start to finish. It was such a feel good tale. I loved it.
An Alaskan Family Christmas gets a very well deserved five plus stars from me. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy clean and heartwarming romance that are set during the Christmas season.
I received An Alaskan Family Christmas from the publisher. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
One of my favorite things about this series by Beth Carpenter is the setting. I haven’t read many books that are set in Alaska, but this series has really given me a sense for what it feels like to live there and how different it is. This particular story takes place around Christmastime. So, if you’re wanting to get in the mood for Christmas, this is the story for you! In fact, my favorite part of this story was their Christmas celebration. Tanner and his family own a cabin which is basically out in the middle of nowhere Alaska. This sets us up for the most perfect tree cutting media free holiday!
I liked both Tanner and Natalie and their relationship. Although I have to say that Tanner was my favorite character. He’s so nice you can’t help but immediately like him. Natalie took me a bit to warm up to, but that made sense because of the circumstances surrounding her and Tanner meeting. Speaking of those circumstances, I did think how they met and how the family took her in so easily was a bit unrealistic, but once I got past that, I enjoyed this story and Natalie and Tanner’s relationship.
If you’re in the mood for a heartwarming old fashioned Christmas, this just might be the story for you.
This is a clean read. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I loved getting lost in An Alaskan Family Christmas. There are so many wonderful characters in this book – including the dog! I highly recommend this well written, awesome, heartwarming romance about family and love to anyone looking for a family centered, clean Christmas romance. Whenever I read one of Beth Carpenter’s amazing romances, I want to visit Alaska and see the amazing sights that are so important in her books!
I love how tenacious Natalie is and what she would do for a friend even if it means ending up stuck in the middle of nowhere staying with relative strangers lol Tanner handles Natalie well as he could have just left her at the train stop but his nice gesture turns into so much more. I fell in love with Tanners family as well as Tanner and Natalie, to be fair I was a bit apprehensive about Dane and whether he was like how Brooke described. This is the perfect book with plenty of laughs, a few awkward moments, a good dash of attraction and romance and characters you will love!
I loved the story. How far would you go for your best friend? Natalie went to the middle of no where. She was leaving Alaska and she had to make sure that Brooke would be ok. This book brings all of Alaska to you. From earthquakes to Northern Lights and everything in between. I felt like I was there with them.
“An Alaskan Family Christmas” is book 7 of Beth Carpenter’s Northern Lights series.
In this installment of life and love in Alaska, Natalie Weiss is on a mission to help out her best friend, Brooke, while Tanner Rockford is searching for his cousin, Dane.
In a case of mistaken identity, Natalie ends up spending Christmas with Tanner and his family off-the-grid in their cabin. More than secrets are discovered during the holiday!
The author’s knowledge of Alaska is apparent and her writing is very descriptive of what life in Alaska is like. We even get a cameo of Mac and Ursula (“Alaskan Hideaway”).
“An Alaskan Family Christmas” is a sweet story about love and family.
When I first started reading this story, I pictured a perfectly ordinary young woman trying to play detective by wearing a big hat, sunglasses, and a trench coat. Wasn’t exactly like that but pretty darn close! Let’s just say it was an epic fail, in a good way. Natalie Weiss has lived a life of struggle and hardship but the only real impact it has had on her is a big distrust in people in general. You have to work very hard to earn her trust. You have to work even harder to make her believe in an HEA.
It is a wonderful story, clean, sweet, funny, heartbreaking at times, and heartwarming the rest and I won’t give any spoilers. Tanner Rockford happens to be on the disbelieving end of Natalie’s (let’s call it) surveillance and she ends up spending time with his family, in a remote cabin. Natalie’s world opens up in so many different ways! She is, however, confused and disbelieving that people can be this…nice and accepting. The Rockfords are wonderful – and the kids are adorable! – and soon she is questioning every wall she has ever built to keep close feelings in and people out.
There are lots of twists and turns and ups and downs and some are pretty darn funny. There’s this one scene with a discussion about an outhouse… Well, you’ll need to read it for yourself. Tanner, too, has to deal with his own promises made to his deceased father so he has some soul searching as well. Great holiday read, one that will get you in the mood for some snow, hot chocolate, and snow angels. I enjoyed.

MY REVIEW
*I read this book way back before Christmas , but for some reason forgot to write my review. Thankfully I make notes in my notebook as I read all my books *
An Alaskan Family Christmas is book 7 in the Northern Lights series but it can easily be read as a stand-alone with no problem at all. I often found myself laughing throughout the whole book. The writing is fantastic, and the pacing is just right. It was fun reading about these characters. They made me laugh, smile, and a little crazy at times.
Tanner Rockford and Natalie Weiss .. I Absolutely fell in love with all of the characters except Natalie. I just could not get into her character at all. ( Which I am sure was just me ) Tanner is a great character and brings so much to this story. The story moves at a good pace and all of the characters are well developed and likeable ( except Natalie ) .I loved the growth that the characters made, although they both had baggage from the past to overcome. I also really loved Tanner’s Family. Maya and Evie are so cute 🙂 Which brings me to the cover. I absolutely love this cover. The cover is what drew me to the book. I am a sucker for any romance that has kids in it. My mom is the one who got me into romances with kids. They always make everything more interesting.
I also really enjoyed the setting of Alaska . It’s the kind of place that almost everyone would like to visit.
The whole time i was reading this book i was thinking this would make a great Hallmark movie.
I loved the authors writing style and the fact she described all of the scenes so well.
If you are looking for a great Christmas romance story you should add this one to your list. And as with any book you read PLEASE leave the author a REVIEW. Reviews are very important to authors and is what keeps them writing.Thank you to NetGalley ,the publisher and the author for the chance to read and review this amazing 4 star read for an honest review !
Who are Tanner, Natalie, Brooke, and Dane? How do each of these people know one another if at all? What has Brooke gotten herself into that she sets Natalie on a quest to find someone? What does Natalie think she has done? Who has she found? What is the result when she gets off the train at the wrong place? This story was not exactly what I was thinking it was going to be, but it was so much more fun of a read. I spent the time it took me to read smiling, laughing, going awwwwww, and wishing I had a life experience like what happened in the book. You have to read to see what is going on and how it ends!
RECEIVED THIS BOOK from Harlequin through Netgalley AS A GIFT FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin’ With M. Brennan.
An Alaskan family Christmas
I loved Tanner and Natalie story. How they met and how his family welcomed her. Natalie is helping her friend Brooke find Dane. She doesn’t find him at first but finds his family. If you enjoy reading books set in Alaskan you will love this one. Enjoyed the kids in the book. I also enjoyed Dane’s dog that Tanner is taking care of.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. This book review is my own opinion.
I loved this book so much. Written in Beth Carpenter’s characteristic friendly voice, this is my favorite so far of her Northern Lights stories. While I was pleased to have a re-visit with protagonists from an earlier story, it definitely stood alone. Tanner’s family not only became Natalie’s family in this Christmas story, I think they became mine, too! Great job, Ms. Carpenter!
