Lucy Haskell is returning home to Denver after four years of living abroad in China. She’s eager to see everything that has changed in her absence and to start the next chapter of her life. When her dear friend and traveling companion Delphine Collins goes missing without a trace in Chinatown, Lucy realizes she’s in a unique position to help, and she decides to apply to become a Pinkerton agent.… agent.
Jed Green isn’t sure what he thinks about ladies joining the agency. He knows from personal experience that it’s dangerous work, and he can’t imagine putting a woman in those kinds of situations. When he’s asked to train a new female agent, he agrees reluctantly, but when he’s asked to marry her for propriety’s sake? That’s another thing altogether – a preposterous thing.
Before Jed and Lucy can concentrate on their case, they must discover if they can work together. Then they must resolve their new feelings so they can work on the case.
An Agent for Lucy is book one of an exciting new series featuring Pinkerton agents and their brides. Be sure to grab every one of them!

I love this new series involving Pinkerton agents. This novel kept me so involved that I read it in one sitting–very unusual for me. I recommend it to anyone who likes romance combined with adventure.
Easy 4 maybe 4 1/2 star
This starts out kind of slow but it gives you onsite to the story once it takes off. What a brilliant idea to incorporate opium in the story something that was so popular but “ hush hush” in that day very well written.
And I can recommend this to my advanced reading preteen friends as there is no language or sexual references although it does talk about smoking opium that younger readers might have questions about
An Agent for Lucy is the first Amelia Adams book I’ve read, and I enjoyed it a lot. Despite the shorter length of the novel, the plot and characters are fully developed. Jed is a swoonworthy hero, and I love his strength of character and integrity. He also has a great sense of humor, yet takes his job seriously. I like that he takes care of Lucy during the mission without making her feel useless or unnecessary to the assignment. He recognizes that she brings several important skills to the job. I appreciated all the historic information, especially about one particular topic that I won’t mention because it would be a spoiler. I will definitely read more books by this author.
This is a wonderful story and I was so excited to read this first book in this new series. I was thrilled and well into reading this story. It is so good and if I had it all in one piece I don’t think I would have put it down.
I am a beta reader and was given so many chapters at a time to read and look for anything that was off. Amelia is very good at editing before handing these chapters out.
So I was able to pretty much just read while keeping my eye out for anything I needed to bring to Amelia’s attention.
This story was amazing and I was so thrilled to read it and enjoy it and find out things the Pinkerton’s do.
This was such a fun and thrilling story to read and of course there was romance involved as and well mystery. Do they finish their task on their first case together and do they keep married at the end as the agents and female trainers have to marry in order to maintain propriety and they can annual the marriage once they are trained?
To do they stay married, fall in love, catch the bad people or find their missing person they have been tasked to do? You will need to read this story to find it all out and believe me it is so worth the read.
As you know already I received this as a beta reader by the author, and due to all guidelines have received no compensation for doing so.
Love at first sight…
This is a unique story, because of the first few chapters. I don’t want to give it away, but this one is definitely outside the box! Enjoy!
