“Fans of laugh-out-loud romantic suspense will enjoy this new author as she joins the ranks of Janet Evanovich, Katie MacAllister, and Jennifer Crusie.”—Booklist, on An Affair to Dismember
“Elise Sax will win your heart.”—New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis
Three months has been Gladie Burger’s limit when it comes to staying in one place. That’s why Gladie is more than a little … than a little skeptical when her Grandma Zelda—who is more than a little psychic– recruits her into the family’s matchmaking business in the quaint small town of Cannes, California. What’s more, Gladie is also highly unqualified, having a terrible track record with romance. Still, Zelda is convinced that her granddaughter has her clairvoyant “gift.” But when the going gets tough, Gladie wonders if this gift has a return policy.
When Zelda’s neighbor drops dead in his kitchen, Gladie is swept into his bizarre family’s drama. Despite warnings from the (distractingly gorgeous) chief of police to steer clear of his investigation, Gladie is out to prove that her neighbor’s death was murder. It’s not too long before she’s in way over her head—with the hunky police chief, a dysfunctional family full of possible killers, and yet another mysterious and handsome man, whose attentions she’s unable to ignore. Gladie is clearly being pursued—either by true love or by a murderer. Who will catch her first?

A light read- cute and likeable character
was a little hard to get into but then had an interesting finish
It was laugh out loud funny!
This is my first book by Elise Sax and I enjoyed it very much. I found out I missed the prequel to the series so I will be checking it out and moving on to the second book in the series. The are some good characters and I am looking forward to seeing how they continue to develop. While I didn’t have any laugh out loud moments, I did find myself reading with a happy smile on my face. There is nothing I like better than finding a new-to-me author with a bunch of books waiting to be read! I sort of promised myself not to buy any books in January especially since I have more than enough on my Nook that are still waiting to be read, but my “no book buying” self control has never been strong. I will update my success or lack thereof when I post my next Elise Sax review.
If you like Janet Evanovich, you’ll love this. It is sooo funny!
Didn’t really care for the content although the end was better than the beginning.
Wasn’t quite laugh out loud funny but definitely worth the read.
Contrived to the point of ridiculous. Irritating, not funny.
Great read
I loved this story and how all the characters related.
East read that entertains
Totally unrealistic. Not looking for reality necessarily, but this was kind of way out there. A bit funny at times.
Too much telling and not enough showing. Emotional development rather shallow. Never the less was a fun read
This is a great series!! So many laugh out loud moments. Keeps you engaged and wanting to know what happens.
I needed a laugh-out-loud book and this book gave me that and more. I love Gladie and her grandmother. I want to hang out with them. I want to get in the matchmaking by index card and crime-solving business with them. Please!
Fast pace read with lots of action. You can’t help but love Gladdie
Creative story with twists and unexpected ending. Not entirely realistic and some tangent happenings seem to come from nowhere. As in many female author books it had a little too much emphasis on what clothes were worn and what food they craved.
A grandmother who is a little psychic recruits her granddaughter into the family business of fortune-telling. The girl is not sure she has the gift but when a neighbor is found dead, she gets embroiled in the solving of the murder. Was kind of a goofy story but a bit entertaining. Sometimes the believability got a little out of hand.
Cheap jokes, potty humor, main character with sex on her mind in uncomfortable words, jumping from one place to another… disappointing
Absolutely the most funny murder mystery I have read. It is laugh out loud funny. The characters are great. There is so much going on it is like a thrill ride. I could not put it down. I want to read the whole series.
