Detective John Stone of the NYPD has the best arrest record in the 43rd precinct. But he’s a dinosaur who belongs to another age. Detective Carmen Dehan has such a bad attitude that nobody at the precinct can stomach her. Captain Jennifer Cuevas wants them both out of the way and thinks they make a perfect pair. So she gives them the Cold Cases file – the cases nobody gives a damn about. She has … about.
She has no idea just how hot a cold case can get.
Ten years back Nelson Hernandez and his four cousins were playing poker in a dive at Hunts Point. Somebody came in, blew them away and beheaded and castrated Nelson, leaving his head and his balls on the table. There was no shortage of suspects, the Jersey Mob, the Triads from Manhattan, or the 43rds own bent cop, Mick Harragan. But nobody was ever charged, and the night of the murder Mick Harragan went missing with Nelson’s wife, Maria.
Now Stone and Dehan plan to find him – whatever the consequences…

I really enjoyed this book. I especially liked the way the 2 main characters interacted. It was tough to figure out whodunit. Surprise ending.
A great series
I had never heard of that gambling term, that intrigued me initially.
Excellent in every respect-action,,pĺot,characters,originality.
Verygood
A fast . Paced action read !
Author notes that she writes a couple of books per month. It shows; terrible plot, flat characters, I could go on and on. Won’t read this series again!
Story is somewhat disjointed.
Loved this thrilling read!
Great read , bought the next book in the series
A good whodunit cold case mystery. Good characters – Stone and Dehan are kind of opposites that work good together. Some plot twists seem a little far-fetched, but it’s fiction and that’s what made it all the more enjoyable. Intriguing and a quick read.
Hard to put down!
The story caught my interest very quickly
The plot was nice and there were some twists and turns. It would have been better if there were less bad words.
Couldn’t get interested in the characters or plot.
Fast paced and thrilling.
good read
Great characters, well written with a twist.
An old-fashioned detective and a new lady cop are partnered on the NYC cold cases. They search thru the boxes looking for an interesting case. They choose an interesting case and start investigating. They play off each other with their different styles and personalities, and create a dynamite team. I enjoyed how thy each had different thinking which they shared in fascinating conversations. Witty with a wry sense of humor. I just loved reading this book with all its twists and turns. Very enjoyable.
Loved it!!!!!!
