Detective John Stone of the NYPD has the best arrest record in the 43rd precinct. But he’s a dinosaur who belongs to another age. Detective Carmen Dehan has such a bad attitude that nobody at the precinct can stomach her. Captain Jennifer Cuevas wants them both out of the way and thinks they make a perfect pair. So she gives them the Cold Cases file – the cases nobody gives a damn about. She has … about.
She has no idea just how hot a cold case can get.
Ten years back Nelson Hernandez and his four cousins were playing poker in a dive at Hunts Point. Somebody came in, blew them away and beheaded and castrated Nelson, leaving his head and his balls on the table. There was no shortage of suspects, the Jersey Mob, the Triads from Manhattan, or the 43rds own bent cop, Mick Harragan. But nobody was ever charged, and the night of the murder Mick Harragan went missing with Nelson’s wife, Maria.
Now Stone and Dehan plan to find him – whatever the consequences…

A real murder mystery. Kept you guessing until the very end.
Good read. Great connection between partners and good story.
Ok read just good enough by no means great.
So-so, but hardly a page-turner.
Besides a good story, there are some interesting characters to know and follow here. This is a entertaining story worth reading.
Predictable
This author claims to turn out books at an astonishing rapid rate. The errors in this book indicate that he didn’t spend much time on it. Yet, it is entertaining and has a original plot.
This is the first book in Blake Banner’s Dead Cold series. It’s a great read! His characters come alive and stay faithful to the personalities he has created for them. The action has a realness that other novelists sometimes don’t quite succeed in giving. His characters become people of the reader’s personal acquaintance, and the “good guys” are really good, the “bad guys” are really bad. Banner has become one of my favorite authors!
Ready 3 more by this author!!
A wonderful read. Interesting characters and excellent plot
There were parts of this one that creeped me out, but I enjoyed every page!
Dashiel Hammet did it better with Sam Spade. Sam was cool and cynical in a believable way, this guy is snarky. But the plot was interesting enough to finish it.
Cant find a second book about this odd ball couple cops In the works ?
I found Blake Banner on a BookBub email and thought I’d give him a try. What a blast. He is a witty writer with an amazing knack for realistic dialogue. I love the banter between the two main characters. The plot had lots of twists and turns but was still easy to follow and still. I’m really glad I found this author. I think he will be one of my new favorites. His wry sense of humor reminds me of Sue Grafton with her Kinsey Milhone series. This was a very fulfilling read.
this book had a really good plot.Had interesting characters and nice twist. But there was too much cussing or I would have given it a 4 star.
Too dependant on foul language.
Good book
The partners are a great mix of young and old, experienced and impetuous.
Really liked this book hope they write more
Good story, good characters. Kept me wondering until the end.
