Detective John Stone of the NYPD has the best arrest record in the 43rd precinct. But he’s a dinosaur who belongs to another age. Detective Carmen Dehan has such a bad attitude that nobody at the precinct can stomach her. Captain Jennifer Cuevas wants them both out of the way and thinks they make a perfect pair. So she gives them the Cold Cases file – the cases nobody gives a damn about. She has … about.
She has no idea just how hot a cold case can get.
Ten years back Nelson Hernandez and his four cousins were playing poker in a dive at Hunts Point. Somebody came in, blew them away and beheaded and castrated Nelson, leaving his head and his balls on the table. There was no shortage of suspects, the Jersey Mob, the Triads from Manhattan, or the 43rds own bent cop, Mick Harragan. But nobody was ever charged, and the night of the murder Mick Harragan went missing with Nelson’s wife, Maria.
Now Stone and Dehan plan to find him – whatever the consequences…

Love this series! Such a fun, entertaining read!
An easy and fun read. A couple twists and turns. Would recommend.
Greatly enjoyable, want to see more of these characters!
Story kept me reading right to the end I enjoyed the story. Which is the reason I read, to relax and to be entertained by someone telling a story.
interesting
Usually I have a good idea of the ending. This one kept me guessing thru the end. Will read more of this author.
I enjoyed the characters and the story line
Many reasons stated for choosing a thought path took big leaps.
I started to really fall for the characters and went and bought the next in the series right away. Although it was not all realistic, it doesn’t matter since it was just fun to have a book with all kinds of twists and turns.
Terrific story, vivid characters, and a classic noire style. Great page-turner.
Great read. Strong characters. Interesting plot twists.
Really enjoyed this story. I did not see the twist coming at the end, it was a real surprise. Like how the 2 characters interact with each other. A promising series that I’m going to follow!
I really liked it ,especially the characters.
Not the worst procedural I’ve read. Obviously could have been improved.
Looking forward to another from this author !
I couldn’t relate to the main characters and really had no investment in the plot.
I liked the writing so much I bought the next in the series from Blake Banner.
Good
