Detective John Stone of the NYPD has the best arrest record in the 43rd precinct. But he’s a dinosaur who belongs to another age. Detective Carmen Dehan has such a bad attitude that nobody at the precinct can stomach her. Captain Jennifer Cuevas wants them both out of the way and thinks they make a perfect pair. So she gives them the Cold Cases file – the cases nobody gives a damn about. She has … about.
She has no idea just how hot a cold case can get.
Ten years back Nelson Hernandez and his four cousins were playing poker in a dive at Hunts Point. Somebody came in, blew them away and beheaded and castrated Nelson, leaving his head and his balls on the table. There was no shortage of suspects, the Jersey Mob, the Triads from Manhattan, or the 43rds own bent cop, Mick Harragan. But nobody was ever charged, and the night of the murder Mick Harragan went missing with Nelson’s wife, Maria.
Now Stone and Dehan plan to find him – whatever the consequences…

Solving cold cases, I enjoyed this book. Have started the second in the series.
not what you expect from the title, never judge a book form the title
If you like the “Longmire” books, you’ll like this one. The main character is a middle aged NYPD detective that the Captain doesn’t care for. So he is paired with a young detective who has a smart mouth and an attitude. She also is good at fights, shooting, and thinking ahead.
They are assigned to “cold cases”, which neither are happy about. So they grab one and start digging in. It goes weird from there. It is great.
Really enjoy the character in this series.
Fun dialog and a nice twisty story line. Kept me reading. Characters have a way of holding the reader off, not letting you in to all the intimate details, so there’s room for insight and development as the layers are peeled back. These are characters you’ll want to get to know better, so you’ll be interested in the what comes next in the series. Recommended.
Wow! Just finished this book. The author had me wondering as I read and than had me questioning my thoughts of who done what. Well written and masterful in the manner in which the characters were developed and interwoven into the story. It was realistic in that I could see this actually taking place. I’d be the first in line if they were to make a movie on this book. If they do, I strongly encourage the author to be present for the whole process so they get it right. Thank you for a good read!
I enjoyed this book.
Enjoyed reading and looking forward to the next in the series.
This is an excellent book with great characters. At points it’s a little far-fetched but is a good old fashioned mystery. I hope to read more from this author.
my first time with Blake Banner & i enjoyed his writing style. the main characters were fun to spend time with also some of the side stories. i will watch for his books in future.

A forty eight year old policeman is sidelined as being outdated. His new assignment is unsolved crimes where he real expertise uncovers a tangled web of conspirators, including police, who hid the meaning of a murder.
Loved this book. Kept me interested all the way through and wondering what was going to happen next.
