Samantha Matthews turned her back on her wealthy family to focus on social work. Those who know her think she’s the heart of kindness. Those who know her really well know she’s in a never-ending battle to make up for the harm her family’s companies inflict on the world. Which is how she finds herself at a charity bachelor auction of all places. But oops, she was supposed to bid on her bff’s … bff’s brother as a favor and accidentally bid on the wrong guy. Sue her for not being able to tell one stick-in-the-mud CEO from another.
Backstage, she goes to tell him not to worry about having to go through with a date or anything, but the oafish billionaire cuts her off dismissively. Looks her up and down, hands her a card with his assistant’s contact details, and reminds her that sex is definitely off the table.
Oh, she’ll call the assistant all right and have her make sure he wears jeans and comfortable shoes and to pick her up at seven a.m. The only “hammering” this guy is going to be doing is at Habitat for Humanity.
Too bad he turns out to be nothing like she expected.

I’ve read and liked a couple of this author’s previous books, so I happily dived in ….
What a chuckle. Reading the description had me smiling. A billionaire with a superiority complex and a reformed high society female. Samantha definitely gets the thumbs up from me.
Samantha wants nothing to do with the wealthy families she grew up with. Give her the “real” people any day. Sam’s past is full of bad memories and by giving back to certain people, she hopes to be happier in herself.
So “charity” auctions are her past and not what she does now, but she promised her best friend that she’d bid on the brother to help, but Sam’s not concentrating and bids on the wrong guy !!! Oooops!! So she goes back stage to gently let the guy off the hook, and tell him not to worry about their “date”, but before she can get a word out Taylor cuts her rudely short
Taylor hates these things with a passion. He knows how things will go ….. his date will want to be the next “Mrs” Taylor or want a business loan!!!! Neither were acceptable, he’d worked hard for his money and reputation, and wasn’t giving either away. But the young lady bidding on him had set his mind whirling, and meeting her in person had set all kinds of feelings off, but Taylor was trying to meet a deadline and wasn’t in the best head zone to deal with this right now.
So a “date” is set for 9am the next morning, anticipation for Taylor, revenge for Sam. Who gets the better end of the deal ?
Yes we all know how it goes ….. billionaire bad boy shown the error of his ways with the woman who turned her back on family money. But after reading it ….. yes he’s a billionaire (but one with a past which shaped him into what he is now) and why did Samantha turn her back on her family? (It’s not what you think either)
It was a fun read, and I’ll happily recommend it for an afternoon read
It’s a mistake that turns out so right and I loved this story.
I’ve never read Diane Alberts before, but the title, cover and synopsis had me requesting it from NetGalley.
A delightful lighter read with enough heat to make you squirm. The dialogues were tinged with humor. These two were going down the same road in opposite directions and as you can imagine there were assumptions, misunderstandings and just plain cluelessness or stubbornness, a lot LOL.
My character preference was for Taylor, quirky habits or not, he had a good heart and was just so lovable. Sam too, had a good heart. She also had a chip on her shoulder which, to me, made her a bit harder to like, but made for some really good reading.
I did receive a copy from NetGalley / Entangled Publishing LLC. This is my voluntary and honest review.
An Accidental Date with a Billionaire by Diane Alberts is the story of Taylor and Sammy.
Sammy was once the daughter of a very rich man and had the best of everything. But then he got caught with his hand in the ‘cookie jar’ and all was lost. So she went forward to change her name and try to make things better by volunteering and doing good in the world. When her best friend ask that she help save her brother from a bachelor auction she does but ends up with the wrong man…Taylor.
Both have trust issue and swear they don’t want anything long term but the more they get to know each other the more they start to think one date isn’t enough.
This was just okay. From the blurb I thought this was going to be my kind of story. Mix up at bachelor auction, and fun things ensue. That didn’t happen for me. Taylor was made to be a jerk at first, but that really only lasts for the first chapter. Sam was rude and judgemental, and that didn’t change for pretty much the whole book. I wasn’t a fan of hers, and I really wasn’t sure why she stayed with Taylor if she hated everything he stood for. They do get their HEA, but only after Taylor pretty much changes his whole business so Sam won’t hate it. I think it’s not really fair for one person to change everything, and the other to compromise nothing. Although I wasn’t a huge fan of this one, I would give this author another read.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
I really liked the blurb for this book and was excited to start reading it. And I enjoyed the first few chapters. But soon the story veered off and I started enjoying it less and less. I couldn’t connect with either of the characters. The author made them just too perfect. Sam, the daughter of a disgraced couple who cheated people out of their money, and Taylor, the billionaire who made his way from nothing but still remembers his roots. They both have a policy of only going out with a person once, so in order to continue seeing one another they decide to “extend” their date. This is pretty much where the book really lost me. I cannot imagine anyone simply moving in with another person whom they have only just met, regardless of the chemistry between them, just to maintain a silly illusion. Plus, Sam has a cat, whom she apparently has no emotional connection to since she’s more than willing to let the poor thing all alone with only her neighbor to check on it. She won’t even go back to her place for clothing or personal items, because that would end the “date,” so Taylor simply buys new things for her. It was just way too far-fetched and ridiculous for me. And I kept worrying about the cat! Sigh.
Note: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in return for an honest review.
They met by chance. Was it an accident or meant to be? Sam and Taylor have alot to learn when it comes to matters of the heart and money is at the center of it all. Alberts pours on the charm with a whole lot of heart and a great deal of common sense. An Accidental Date with a Billionaire begins with a case of mistaken identity and ends up being a sweetheart of a romance. Taylor and Sam have been thrown some heartbreaking curveballs in their young lives. Are they ready to accept that this time around the hands of fate finally got it right? Love is not always beautiful, but life has a way of working itself out.
Both Samantha (Sam) and Taylor were deeper people than they first appeared. Sam coming from a very wealthy background and Taylor dirt poor. Taylor had worked his way to the top with hard work and grit. Taylor also lived by some strict set of rules. It helped keep his life balanced. He had a need to be in control. He also began to see that Sam was seriously shaking that up.
The whole “first date” idea of Taylor’s was a unique way for the story to go. I will give credit to the author for that.
Although I did like the the main characters, I can’t say that this book was my cup of tea. It wasn’t something that I loved. There was a lot of humor which was something that I did enjoy. But there was also a lot of seduction and sex, which I guess is to be expected. Of course, you know that no romance is without some collision of some kind, some challenges to overcome and this story also has that as well.
The story ends with a H.E.A. Sam deciding that hands down Taylor was the best mistake she had ever made.
Nice choice for the eBook cover.
“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
A delightful story of not judging a book by it’s cover, learning to trust and when to put your heart on the line. This book physically gave me chest pains, but I wouldn’t change a minute of it! When Samantha Matthews tries to do a favor for a friend, the life that she’s tried so hard to leave behind, comes back to haunt her. Accidentally bidding on the wrong man, leads to a date she’ll never forget.
I really enjoyed this book overall, but I wasn’t entirely in love with the female main character. I was glad that Taylor wasn’t the controlling jerk he seemed to be at first glance/meeting. He was a really good guy and even though he wasn’t interested in relationships or anything beyond first dates, he was totally smitten with Sam and grew as a person.
Sam, however, did not grow. Yes, she, too, didn’t do second dates or relationships, but she let her past weight her down and she couldn’t bend in her dislike for those with money. She wanted to bring Taylor into her world but wasn’t willing to join him in his.
This is my second book by Diane Alberts and I really love her writing style. The dialogue is great, the descriptive style was crisp, which I find so overblown with many authors. I’d definitely read other books in her catalogue.
i received an ARC from Netgalley, for which I voluntarily read and reviewed.
I’m glad I chanced upon this gem while I was perusing through Net Galley… It’s been a while since I’ve read a Diane Alberts novel, and I’m glad I was reminded of how awesome she is.
Taylor Jennings gave me all the feels. He was a ruthless businessman but underneath it all is a softy just waiting for the right girl to break down his walls… Samantha Matthews has a heart of gold that comes with a dark past but just waiting for the right man to love and accept her for all that she is.
I enjoyed the book. I devoured it in one day… I was surprised by how quickly I got hooked—page after page. I’d say its a quick and easy read but I do have to say that there are parts in the book that’ll pull on your heartstrings, and the push and pull would probably exasperate you on some level… but all in all, it’s a feel-good book. I just wish there was a longer epilogue… something about them being parents and all. It’ll leave you inspired and dreaming about meeting someone like Taylor… someone who’ll do whatever it takes just to keep you.
I loved the premise of this story, and it was fun and exciting seeing how it would all play out. Some things that happened were what I expected, and some were surprising, but overall I really enjoy the story.
Samantha Matthews used to have a charmed life. At least she thought so. Turns out her parents were stealing their wealth from their own clients and employees, and when they were arrested, Sam’s whole life fell apart. Since then, she’s turned her life around, and does what she can to try to atone for her parents sins. She volunteers her time with Habitat for Humanity, and various other charitable causes. She also works to try to help people save their companies from closure and consolidation. She agrees to do a big favor for her best friend by bidding on Izzy’s brother in a charity auction. But, she isn’t paying attention, and ends up bidding on the wrong guy. She’s disgusted by the man’s behavior, and thinks she’ll teach him a lesson by forcing him to volunteer with her building a house.
Taylor Jennings is a very wealthy man, but he wasn’t born as one. He’s worked very hard to make his consolidation business a success, and he’s lined his pockets in the mean time. He sees no issue with this and doesn’t understand why anyone else would. When Sam is the winning bidder for him at the auction, he doesn’t know what to make of her. Does she want a date? A business pitch meeting? Neither would surprise him. But he doesn’t expect her to take him to a Habitat build, and try to make him feel bad about his choice of career. She’s of course shocked when he’s thrilled to be building, and thanks her for bringing him. She intrigues him like no other, and he wants to get to know her better, but they both admit that neither of them does second dates. Could they extend their first date for a while longer?
Taylor and Sam had a great connection. Their banter was witty, and fun, and they had no problem trying to take each other down a peg. They work at opposite ends of the spectrum in business, and neither of them can see how anything real can happen between them. But that doesn’t keep them from wanting to try. Taylor has a regimented schedule, which has helped him to overcome a childhood where everything was out of his control. But, he’s let those stringent rules overtake his life without realizing it. Sam is too scared to tell anyone about her past for fear of them hating her, but she’s let that fear turn into a wall between her and the rest of the world. They both had to realize their issues, and find a way to overcome them if they had any chance of being together in the long run.
There weren’t a ton of side characters here, as this was a shorter story so the focus stayed on the main story line. But, I’m definitely intrigued by Sam’s best friend Izzy’s story, as well as that of her brother, who got bought by someone else at the auction, and apparently wasn’t upset about it at all. I’m assuming we’ll be getting those stories at some point, which is great!
There were some setups here for some classic romance misunderstandings and overreactions, and those are not my favorite. While some of those things happened as I expected, others weren’t so cliched. I was glad of that. There were some more intricate plotting decisions made that I appreciated, and it worked out better than I had hoped. Ultimately, Sam and Taylor had to decide what was the most important thing to them, and what they were willing to fight for. I enjoyed their story, and I hope we’ll get more from this world.
I loved this one. Sam and Taylor are amazing. I highly enjoyed the changes in Taylor throughout this one. Sam has an amazing heart and soul when it comes to her charity work. She brings out the better in Taylor. Taylor is so swoony. If you love Billionaire romances you really need to check this one out. Who says first dates really need to end. The chemistry between Taylor and Sam is so hot. I love what Diane Albertson gives us with An Accidental Date with a Billionaire. Go one click this one.
Sam accidentally bids on the wrong bachelor but winds up winning the first date of a lifetime with Taylor. I really enjoyed the eternal first date plot line and the nods to Pretty Woman but there was something just a little off about the flow of the story, especially the intimate scenes that seemed to jump around quite a bit.
Izzy’s subplot seemed interesting and if there’s a book for her I might give it a try.
Sam carries a lot of weight on her shoulders due to her parents’ negligent ways. She has worked hard in a new city to build a life she is proud of helping businesses rebuild to avoid being taken over. She ends up at a bachelor auction for her friend Izzy to rescue her brother from the auction block. When she wins her intended bachelor, well, she is shocked to learn she bid on the wrong man. Taylor hates these auctions but does believe in helping various charities. He is surprised by the woman that won him in the auction and the date she sets up surprises him even more. But he has the last laugh as he digs in and works which isn’t what Sam expects. Now, Taylor buys failing companies and sells the parts. Given that they are on opposite sides in the business world, do they have any chance at love? Sam doesn’t think she is worthy; can Taylor break down her walls? Sam and Taylor are a great match, they passion for what they do along with their philanthropic endeavors were a joy to experience. Sam is amazing so I was pushing for Taylor to break through and convince her love is possible. These two took me on a fabulous journey for love. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
Sam and Taylor go on a first date that last for over a week. They are both commitment phoebes. The author has given Taylor some qualities that make him unique and not the typical alpha male or billionaire. This makes him quite a lovable character. The story is funny, with Sam not missing the opportunity to pull Taylor’s leg every chance she gets. Taylor works extremely hard to win Sam and she has to open her heart and trust the new opportunity.
3.5 “The never-ending first date” Stars
An Accidental Date with a Billionaire was a fun, sexy and entertaining read I enjoyed greatly.
Samantha stuffed up when she “won” a date with the wrong bachelor, and instead of rescuing her best friend’s brother she ends up with some random jerk CEO who couldn’t even bother to look up from his phone. When he basically writes her off, her pride dictates she teaches the a-hole a lesson and promptly sets up a date to make him suffer.
Taylor finds himself intrigued by Samantha’s apparent lack of interest in him. When their early date turns out to be working construction for Habitat for Humanity, he realizes he might have been completely off in his first impression of her. Similarly, Samantha’s expectation of how their “date” would progress is completely shattered when it turns out Taylor not only knows his way around a construction site but has actually worked with Habitat for Humanity before.
Taylor and Samantha share incredible chemistry and are soon trying to fight the pull. The more time they spend together, the more difficult it becomes to ignore their connection. But neither wants a relationship, and they’re totally wrong for each other, they’re just too different to even bother. Or are they?
I really liked both Taylor and Samantha. She was hardworking, strong and had an iron will. I struggled a bit with her insistence to ignore her feelings and how she kept at her self-imposed punishment. Taylor was a fantastic hero. He starts off as an inconsiderate jerk, sexy as hell sure, but a total ass. As we begin to know him and his feelings for Samantha shake up his uber-organized life, his softer, more playful side comes out to play and it was just awesome.
With some struggles, an epic eff-up and some seriously good groveling, An Accidental Date with a Billionaire had sweet romance, funny butt-heading, and sexy as hell shenanigans. While I was not completely blown away, it kept me smiling and I had a great time reading it.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book*
An Accidental Date with a Billionaire by Diane Alberts a five-star read with plenty of oops. This was funny and great, it will make you chuckle and smile as well as blush. This was my second charity bachelor auction read in as many weeks, and they were both great, this one was the hotter of the two. Samantha and Taylor were both very good characters and will make you smile, they each have different aspects that will annoy you at times, but overall, they make you smile more than they annoy you.
Ever since I read my first Diane Alberts book (Temporarily Yours) I’ve been a fan and I was so happy when this book became available to read and review for NetGalley since it’s been awhile since I’ve read one of her books. This was such an enjoyable, easy, fun and flirty, sexy read! An Accidental Date with a Billionaire was everything I love most about her writing — I connected with Taylor and Sam immediately and I liked the different take on the whole billionaire auction storyline. Taylor was so swoon-worthy and incredibly easy to like, even with his control issues. Quick, enjoyable contemporary romance read that I would definitely recommend. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.
