“This urban fantasy series follows psychic detective Victor Bayne and partner Jacob Marks in a world where psychic ability is accepted, if still a bit creepy. … Fans of Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake books would enjoy this series with paranormal activity as well as romance.” – Library JournalOnce upon a time if you told doctors you heard voices, they’d diagnose you as schizophrenic, put you … schizophrenic, put you on heavy drugs,
and lock you away in a cozy state institution
to keep you from hurting yourself or others.
Nowadays they test you first to see if you’re psychic.
Victor Bayne, the psychic half of a PsyCop team, is a gay medium who’s more concerned with flying under the radar than making waves.
He hooks up with handsome Jacob Marks, a non-psychic (or “Stiff”) from an adjacent precinct at his ex-partner’s retirement party, and it seems like his dubious luck has taken a turn for the better. But then a serial killer surfaces who can change his appearance to match any witness’ idea of the world’s hottest guy.
Solving murders is a snap when you can ask the victims whodunit, but this killer’s not leaving any spirits behind.
Among the Living is book 1 of PsyCop, an ongoing M/M Urban Fantasy series featuring steamy love scenes, astonishing psychic talents, gruesome murders, and a slew of creepy otherworldly creatures.

I always heard the hype about PsyCop, and finally decided to dive in. 1 chapter into the audiobook, I downloaded the entire rest of the series, and I binged it over the course of like a month. This series is SO GOOD. SO. GOOD.
Yeah, its been out a while but if you haven’t picked up Agent Bayne (and Marks) you need to click on over and pick this one up. It is a re-read for me and yep, I’m rereading it now.
This whole series on audio is amazing. Love the banter and the character development. Narrator does a stellar job.
This is the start of what has become one of my favourite (and I mean F.A.V.O.U.R.I.T.E.) series.
Be warned. Once you read this, there’s no going back…
Really loving this series.
A great start to the series. Enjoyed reading it.
This novella was a very nice intro into the world of psychics, their sidekicks and ghosts that live among them. The case was interesting if a bit undeveloped, the suspense was spot on, the characters were unique, the world building was wonderful. Told from single POV (which is a pity) this is a story of a psychic who went through hell on the road to his happy ever after.
I really liked Victor Bane. His self effacing manner and self deprecating humor make him stand out among others. He is such a character and he does not even know how his somewhat close-lipped attitude attracts others to him. I liked his at times awkwardness with Jacob but when push came to shove, he was an absolute force of nature. Jacob is seen through Vic’s eyes, and I liked what Vic saw in him. Jacob’s self confidence and caring personality shone through in the way he treated Vic – like he mattered to Jacob a great deal. It’s just the beginning of their journey, and I am looking forward to it.
I loved this book it was the right length for me it was fun to listen to and I didn’t want it to end, Gomez Pugh’s voice well (fanning myself) smoking hot, the story was really good I love supernatural science fiction and this didn’t disappoint, would I listen/read the next book you bet.
Psych’s Up
I would love to tag along with the psytastic Vic and Jacob on a case but the villain in this one was so super creepy I may have troubled dreams. Wonderful characters and a thrilling mystery, all paired with the paranormal, that’s my kind of read.
I fell down the rabbit hole with this steamy, action-packed Urban Fantasy. Wonderful characters that make you want to learn more and more about them.
I discovered this book a while ago and immediately captured my attention. Not only was about two of my favorite topics combined: Psychics and detective work, but the author created an amazing world on the topic with a whole pretty interesting backstory, amazing characters and a MM romance. Wonderful reading!!
I’m re-reading the whole series so I can power through to Book 11 when it comes out & it’s as enjoyable as it was the first time! I love Vic & Jacob, & all the supporting characters–and the stories are a lot of fun!
Oh no! Another awesome series of which I have only scratched the surface! Loved the characters, loved the slight twist on the real world (is ours the real one?), enjoyed the mystery. Flawed heroes and the lovers who believe in them always engage my emotions. Can’t wait to follow the story of Victor and Jacob and learn the truth about Vic’s past.
HOT off the presses***Snag the audiobook at Audible. Gomez Pugh does such an amazing job as the voice of Vic!

You had me at “spook squad”. I loved this book and I’m very excited about the rest of the series, This book was so much fun to read!
Highly recommend this entire series.
I picked the audiobook book up during a sale and wooooo doggy! This is one heck of a story!
Gomez Pugh is a gem. He brings Vic alive with a dry, slightly disaffected, bewildered and fearless performance. It’s so awesome! Gomez made it super easy to immerse myself into the what if world. What if psychics are real and what if they were cops? What does it all mean?
Sooo I’m 5 minutes in and wandering around the house with Vic and did a mental double take when Jacob does a mouth check on Vic with his tongue. It’s so random and hot. That was it. I’m sold!
Among the Living is really cool, smart and hot! I love Vic!
I should feel ashamed at how often I listen to this audiobook… But I just don’t! Narrated by the very wonderful Gomez Pugh and a cover model who is so gosh dang perfect for the PsyCop series, I listen to the series once every couple months and this particular audiobook twice a month. And I still get blown away in the first minute! Jordan Castillo Price knocked me on the head in the best possible way with the first two sentences… “Once upon a time if you told doctors you heard voices, they’d diagnose you as schizophrenic, lock you away in a cozy state institution to keep you from hurting yourself or others. Nowadays they test you first to see if you’re psychic.” I did a fist-pump when I heard these sentences on audiobook the first time! My impulse audiobook series purchase paid off big time! Thanks, JCP!
