Shani is thrilled to have Joel back from Iraq, but he needs time to heal, and the quiet of Lancaster seems just the place. I highly recommend this heartwarming story about tragedy and love and learning how to overcome the past. An English family moves into a house next door to an Amish family. They have a lot of differences to overcome and learn how to love they neighbor as thyself as God commanded. This is the first book that I have read by this author, Leslie Gould, and it won’t be my last. She tackled some harsh issues to end with a HEA ending. This is a must read book and the characters were great.
I truly enjoyed this book.
Good book.
What a wonderful book. When Joel and Shani decide to move to her grandfather’s old home to get them away from all the bad things that he has been dealing with since getting injured in Iraq. Shani is pregnant and their son Zane is 12 and never has lived in area whee there at Amish people. They have neighbors the Lehman’s who are leasing the field from Shani father. Tim is the brother and his 5 children and getting help from his sister since the loss of his wife to cancer just after the baby was born. There are a lot of things going on and Zane goes over to meet the family and spooks one of the horses and the 2nd son Simon gets hit in the head by the horses hoof. Shani doesn’t know that cell service doesn’t work and has not hooked up a land line yet when Joel falls and re-injures his leg. Joel is also dealing with PTSD and the loss of one of his company at the same time as his injury. Eve is Tim’s sister and also taking care of the kids for Tim as a promise to she made to his late wife and her best friend. But Tim is not the warmest of people and doesn’t make life any easier for any of them. Then there is Charlie, the only other guy from the Humvee survived the attack he helps them all out as much as he can and still keep his job in Philly. He tries to be friends with Eve but Tim doesn’t like it because he is English and is afraid that he will loose his sister to the English partilly because what happened to his wife with his twin children which he adopted and made his. I could not put this book down and stop reading. Leslie Gould is a wonderful author and I love all of the books that I have read of hers.
Well written and inspirational
This was a really nice story
The book was easy to read, a definite summer experience. The characters were somewhat predictable, which detracted from the story. However, it is possible to see that a real situation could have these people involved. Just not a great book–just an easy read.
Loved this book
It was a good read.
Very good Amish read with a twist.
I enjoy a book with a story line that any one coming in my home could pick and look at without my being embarrassed about the subject matter. And I did enjoy the book.
Excellent reading. I highly recommend this book.
Very good. It handled a serious problem when different religious beliefs come in conflict. They found a good solution.
