I had never read a book filled with short stories until this one. To my knowledge there is nothing quite like it in the Christian fiction world. It was a lovely variety of subjects, characters, and settings. I enjoyed the common theme of the fruits of the spirit throughout the book. Each author did a wonderful job portraying the “fruit” in each of their stories. There is something for everyone in the 18 tales of Amish Front Porch Stories.

The Brunstetter ladies have teamed up again with 18 stories from Amish country based on the Fruit of the Spirit from the Bible as taught in Galatians. You will be tempted to pull up a rocking chair on your own front porch as you read these stories filled with inspiration, faith, and hope. At the end of each story is a scripture verse that will encourage you as well. Thoughtful gift idea!

Everyone of these 18 short stories was fantastic. They each taught a good lesson in just a few pages. Some of these stories made me cry and some made me laugh. I did not want to put the book down because I loved each story and all the characters. These are very inspirational. I received a copy of this book from Barbour Publishing for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
This is a thoughtful, encouraging collection of eighteen short stories of Amish people living in various states. Each is a standalone story. There are two stories for each fruit of the Spirit that present characters re-learning about the fruit in a gentle, manner. I found each to be compelling even if at times convicting! They are also the perfect length to read during a lunch break or time of devotions and include at least one corresponding scripture.
The families in each story are facing different circumstances that are part of many people’s lives. Whether or not I was in that specific situation, I could have empathy with the primary character even while seeing myself and my behaviors. From mothers overwhelmed with children, to a wife grieving her childless state, one grieving the death of her husband, to a teen in her “running around” years, I enjoyed not only seeing more of Amish life and faith.
My personal favorite is Betty’s Dog, a reminder of my own experience when an indoor cat got out and was gone for weeks. One that especially spoke to me was Breaking Down, about the root of a controlling mindset and what Proverbs says about having lack of self-control. While it was convicting, it is also a blessing to see that it can be changed through the Lord’s help.
As in most short stories, resolutions seem to come quickly compared to the misbehavior, so I missed seeing each person’s growth over time. Each story, however, includes all the necessary elements to show how prayer, studying and meditating on scripture, and help from our loved ones can lead us toward our goal of allowing the fruit of the Spirit to be seen in our lives.
Wanda Brunstetter, her daughter-in-law, and granddaughter write the stories in this collection. They include Amish faith and heritage in their unique styles, with delightful characters who have the same flaws every Christian does. We learn more about the Amish and how their faith in the Lord directs their daily lives and lifestyles. These short stories are well worth reading and re-reading and sharing with others. I highly recommend this to fans of the author and of Amish Christian writings, those who like short stories of encouragement and faith, and anyone who has challenges with reflecting the fruit of the Spirit in daily lives.

A compilation of 18 short stories, the characters go through everyday struggles, some more difficult than others. But through it all we are reminded that God loves us and walks with us.
The fruits of the spirit, found in the book of Galatians, are the topics for each section in the book. Remember that these are short stories, not even novella length so the authors don’t go into deep detail. But it’s a great book to pick up if you only have a few minutes to read. With scripture threaded throughout each story, you’ll come away with much to contemplate.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
What a delightful collection of short stories by the Brunstetter women, Wanda, Jean, and Richelle. The books are based on the Fruits of the Spirit. The people learn some valuable lessons.
The messages in these stories can be used by all of us. We have experienced some of the issues and problems in our lives. This books would make a great devotional or small group study on the Fruits of the Spirit.
Enjoyable read!
Amish Front Porch Stories is a book that I will describe as 18 devotionals for us. These stories are filled with messages that come to help us in one way or another as we go through our days experiencing these same things that these 18 characters are. I love how there is always a Biblical verse at the end of each story, how each story holds Christian values without feeling like you’re being preached. These 3 ladies write the most heart touching stories that grab your attention and speak to you. I enjoyed reading all these stories. Some of them hit home like the “Tempted” one about staying healthy and avoiding sweets for a healthy living. Each story you learn something and you realize that there is actually people that can feel just like you in similar situations. They are short stories full of God’s message about Love, Joy , Peace and Friendship. I recommend this book as a sweet tool to have in your home library, a book that will have you reaching for it to read it all over again, if not only for the stories but for the Bible verses that surely come handy. As well as to sit back down with a nice cup of drink and read them knowing that you are never alone. Being like I mentioned with stories that are similar to what you might go through.
I received a copy of this book from the Publisher and Author for my True Honest review. And I enjoyed every page of it. Highly recommend it. You won’t be disappointed.

These eighteen stories are each based on an aspect of the “Fruit of the Spirit”: Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. These short stories are inspirational and encouraging. There’s faith and wisdom that weaves in and out of every storyline. I liked the way that each story focused on a situation that an Amish man or woman was facing, and how through the sound counsel of others, they learned the importance of each quality. I thought all three authors did an equally nice job on their stories.
Although the stories are short, each felt complete and I felt as if I’d met the main character in each story. This is a sweet book and I’ll look forward to reading it again.

Amish Front Porch Stories is a delightful compilation of 18 short stories of about 16 pages each. It is divided into 9 sections with 2 stories in each which go through the Fruits of the Spirit…love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. One of the things I love about this book is that you are able to read it in short bursts of time because the stories are short. Another thing I love is that, if you are struggling in a particular area such as sadness or lack or peace, you can read the section on joy or peace to see how the characters were able to overcome the problems they were encountering. I found these stories to be warm and full of gentle wisdom that is sure to lift your spirit.

Amish Front Porch Stories: 18 Short Tales of Simple Faith and Wisdom is a wonderful collection of short stories that are based upon the Fruit of the Spirit. Wanda Brunstetter, Jean Brunstetter and Richelle Brunstetter teamed up to create this uplifting collection.
Each story is filled with a mother or young girl that is struggling with an issue from lacking faith to being short tempered. The stories are easy to read with each character coming to realize they needed to trust, pray and let God take care of the issue. Couple of my favorites Cardinal by the Window where Esther found joy among the antics of her children and Betty’s Dog with 10 year old Betty’s faith. Each tale includes a scripture verse at the end that relates to the character, along with family, faith, love and community.

I loved these Amish stories, and actually most could be any culture, with life’s trials, and joys.
Written by three different, but related, authors, these short stories quickly drew me in, and although you quickly finish one, with questions answered, I found myself wanting more and moving on to another, and that quickly pulled me in.
This is a book that you could take eighteen days to savor, there are eighteen stories, or like me, I quickly absorbed these, they are that good!
