This was a collection of eighteen stories by the Brunstetter’s, Mother, Wanda, Daughter In Law, Jean and Granddaughter, Richelle.
Each story covered one of the Fruits of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22-23, Love, Joy, Peace, Long-suffering, Gentleness, Goodness, Meekness, Temperance.
These stories caused me to do lots of soul searching and introspection of my own self. Some hit very close to home!
The lesson in The Beautiful Quilt was about pride and how we let ourselves think highly of our accomplishments without giving God the credit He deserves. Betty’s Dog reminded me of the saying “and a little child shall lead them.” Betty’s dog came up missing and she diligently prayed everyday, several times a day that God would send Jack back home. Weeks went by when although her parents helped her search, they had almost given up hope but not Betty. She just knew God was going to answer.
The hardship of caring for many children and also caring for aging parents was brought into the stories. Sometimes what we are asked or expected to do seems overwhelming. We think we know better than others and don’t ask God for help. Difficulty with neighbors, being jealous of those with children when we haven’t been successful in having our own, blaming ourselves when a loved one dies, being tempted for something we shouldn’t have like junk food. So many things we try to do on our own, thinking we don’t need to bother God with it when He wants us to ask for help and depend on Him.
These were well written and the best part to me was the scripture included at the end of each story that corresponded to that “lesson”.

I am a serious Brunstetter fan from way back when I first discovered Christian fiction and Amish fiction. She has added many heartwarming books to my most treasured stories. I know I will find simple faith and wisdom not only in the pages, but in the characters as well. I think I’ve learned quite a few valuable lessons from them!
First off, this cover just draws me in! I can see myself sitting on that porch on a lazy summer afternoon chatting away with a friendly Amish neighbor. Maybe even shucking peas while we talk, and sipping homemade tea or lemonade to pass the time. Those rocking chairs look so inviting! Can you picture it in your head too? Secondly, I was amazed at how quickly I read these eighteen stories. Each one of them quickly drew me into the lives of the characters; like stepping into their shoes and glimpsing a slice of what everyday life is for them. Just because they are simple Amish folk, doesn’t mean they aren’t without troubles or struggles of their own too! I think my most favorite thing about these, how each story relates to the Fruit of the Spirit; Love, Joy, Peace, Long-suffering (patience), Gentleness, Goodness, Faith, Meekness, and Temperance. The characters come to learn how to deal with life using each of these “fruits”, which in turn, helped me to remember how to deal with these in my own life—by praying more, talking to other Christians when I struggle, delving into God’s word when I need guidance, and showing kindness always in all situations. I really believe that everyone can benefit from being reminded of these truths! Living out God’s ways of doing things can shine the light of Christ in our world and I think the authors did a perfect job of portraying that in their characters.
“A simple action is all that is needed to show God’s love to a neighbor.” ~Simple Actions by Wanda Brunstetter

These ladies certainly have a knack for writing some of the most wonderful stories ever and I love that they include a little something for everyone to enjoy.
I love Wanda and have been a fan of hers forever! It was a delight to meet Jean and Richelle as well. I think it’s great that such talent runs in the family. I was hoping they’d write more and I wasn’t disappointed!
Reading these stories gave me a peaceful feeling after each one. Each one is unique in their own way.
I think that we can learn a few things from the Amish. I like the way they pray at every meal and even though it’s silent God can still hear everything that we and I say we because He knows what’s in our hearts.
I also appreciate the way they want to be in the world but not of it. I think all of us would be a lot better off.
And I would dearly love to go for a buggy ride.
This book can be used to give as a gift to a loved one no matter the reason.
I think I will buy one for someone hoping it will bless them as it has me.
