“Jaw-dropping…Undeniably riveting.” —RICHARD ROEPER, Chicago Sun-Times
From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. His fellow American warriors, whom he protected with deadly precision from rooftops and stealth positions during the Iraq War, called him “The Legend”; meanwhile, the enemy feared him so much they named him al-Shaitan (“the devil”) and placed a bounty on his head. Kyle, who was tragically killed in 2013, writes honestly about the pain of war—including the deaths of two close SEAL teammates—and in moving first-person passages throughout, his wife, Taya, speaks openly about the strains of war on their family, as well as on Chris.
Gripping and unforgettable, Kyle’s masterful account of his extraordinary battlefield experiences ranks as one of the great war memoirs of all time.

sad but real life.
I was a consultant in those years in the middle East and saw a very tiny bit of what he described…it is very real, intense, and really takes you into the world and philosophy of conflict in a misguided war. I found that first person war stories are the most vivid, Most intense. Robert leckie’s Helmet for my Pillow is another great one.
I have been looking for a book that tells more about boot camp and special forces training, so I loved that part of his book. I also think it was very real, and heartbreaking at times.
Thank God for this Precious man, whom saved more of our Military lives than we will ever know. He was taken from us way too soon. God Bless him.
Loved this book
Wonderful man.
not very well written
What an eye opener! How fortunate we are not to have to face that kind of conflict.
What a life
Outstanding book about what is really happening with our veterans.
A realistic look at the life of a sniper in the American military. While he is in the business of killing, and it is not always easy for him, his job is to insure that the bad guys cannot continue to wreck havoc on the lives of innocent people.
I’ve heard maybe not everything in this book is accurate; however, it was a great read.
One word — GREAT.
Profoundly moving.
So sorry that after surviving a war, he was killed by someone he was trying to help,
What a tradegy!
Fabulous description of what it takes to be a Navy Seal. A true American Hero.
Excellent book that provided insight into war and special shoulders, an American hero and the difficulty war veterans have returning to civilian life.
Thank God there are people like Chris looking out after others!!!!
War is never good and this true story drives that home. Yet in all bad there will be good. People crossing barriers and taking personal risk.
Just terrific. Mad me/you more aware war and the feelings that stured up in me
