“Jaw-dropping…Undeniably riveting.” —RICHARD ROEPER, Chicago Sun-Times
From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. His fellow American warriors, whom he protected with deadly precision from rooftops and stealth positions during the Iraq War, called him “The Legend”; meanwhile, the enemy feared him so much they named him al-Shaitan (“the devil”) and placed a bounty on his head. Kyle, who was tragically killed in 2013, writes honestly about the pain of war—including the deaths of two close SEAL teammates—and in moving first-person passages throughout, his wife, Taya, speaks openly about the strains of war on their family, as well as on Chris.
Gripping and unforgettable, Kyle’s masterful account of his extraordinary battlefield experiences ranks as one of the great war memoirs of all time.

Not an easy book to read. The subject matter is emotional and a real reflection on the modern life and political choices, and the mess they make of ordinary lives. It’s a well written book that really brings the people and places to life. Both educational and brutal, I enjoyed it.
the movie was just as good as the book. so sad to lose such a wonderful guy
Love love loved this book!
I don’t know if I would read another book like this. I think once was enough. My son is doing a lot of stuff this guy did. Wish I didn’t know it!!! But, what an education I got and learned how men think in these tough, tough situations. I can relate to cops and shootings on the street, bars, homes, etc… but this sniper business….. glad I …
this book is excellent because it’s the true story of a brave man. He gave all in the military and then came home to help other veterans and was killed by someone he was trying to help…Excellent book.
I saw the movie close to the book and his wife put up with alot of stuff but their love got through alot of the hard ships sadly what happen in the end too much to take away his life trying to help someone who needed help decided to kill the person who was there for him too tragic This movie showed of gotten awards for best pic and every single …
A fantastic book about a great American who tragically lost his life. He was a simple man in a complex time. His love for family and country clearly shows in his story. I could not put the book down once I started reading it.
I read the book after seeing the movie. Normally, I like to wait to see the movie until I have read the book, but as a Bradley Cooper fan decided to forgo my tradition. Can’t say I’m sorry either way. Chris Kyle starts out as an “Aw shucks, I’m just a Texas cowboy kind of guy.” Before you know it he has you walking the streets of the war torn …
very well written
This is an amazing book! I would recommend this to everyone!
Sad what happened to this heroic soldier. I enjoyed the book and the following movie because I served in the military and can relate though nothing like he did. I recommend this book to anyone interested in the military.
I found this book to be disturbing. It seemed that killing was not a problem for this guy and he relished the kill a little to much at times. There is a need to protect your own but he seemed to go beyond that.
He’s a legend and a hero!!!
excellent read
a great testament and fascinating story of a true American hero
