A new reign has begun….
“Inventive, fresh, and deliciously romantic–American Royals is an absolute delight!” –Sarah J. Maas, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Throne of Glass series and Court of Thorns and Roses series

I just love Katharine McGee’s writing, and this sequel blew American Royals out of the water. These books are pure fun: totally addictive and high gloss with effortless drama, intrigue, and romance. I know it’s meant to be a duology, but I hope she continues to come back to this world in the future!
I absolutely love this series!! I can’t wait for the next installment. Simply charming. A wonderful escape from challenging times.
I truly enjoyed this book. Actually, after finishing the first book in this duet, I was impatient to get my hands on book two and begin reading. Unfortunately, there was a waiting list on Libby. When I finally did get to listen to the sequel, I found myself enjoying it even more than the first book.
I love the alternate historical information… such as Hamilton being a Duke or a Lord (I honestly can’t remember, I just found it amusing.) I also love how the characters make you truly see how different our country might be had things gone this way instead of our current democracy.
The thing that stuck out the most to me in this book, is the positive messages involving female empowerment and changing things and systems you know to be morally wrong. I loved seeing the strength in Bea’s character and how she grew over the course of the book. And I LOVED that it was her sister who finally gave her that push to make a difference.
This is one of those books that just sucks you in. It read kind of like a Royal soap opera, but in the best possible way. I hope the author decides to return to this world at some point in the future, as I’d love to see where some of the other characters end up.
I loved this second book in the American Royals series every bit as much as the first! (Is there going to be a third? PLEASE tell me there will be a third book!)
This series is so much fun to read!
I’ve been looking forward to this sequel to the teen/YA novel American Royals, and it didn’t disappoint. Some resolutions to storylines as the characters mature – but still plenty of dramatic twists and lingering questions. On to book 3!
As the title implies, Majesty is a continuation of American Royals, which ends with a cliffhanger and I couldn’t wait to read Majesty to find out what happens next.
I really enjoyed the 4 POVs, although I would have liked some male POV, too. Beatrice, Samantha, Nina, & Daphne are all pretty amazing women in their own way although Beatrice was definitely my favorite in this one. Daphne is the mean girl we all love to hate. I had some serious feelings at the end of American Royals about who should couple up and Majesty really flipped things around on me. This books is full of romance, deception, rivalry, and royal drama.
The ending wasn’t how I would have liked and as of right now, there is not a sequel coming to finish up those loose ends. However, Katharine McGee said she left it open so that if her publisher goes for it, she can continue the series with a 3rd book. Please let there be another book. I also think this would make a great netflix series!!
I adore the American Royals series and this second book in the series does not disappoint. One can only hope a third won’t be far behind. I am loving the exploits of Queen Beatrice and Princess Samantha!
I loved the first book in this series. Imagining a parallel universe where the descendants of George Washington rule the U.S. was an intriguing and fun read.
The second book introduced a number of twists that I also enjoyed, especially in the love department. Readers of my work often say I “keep them guessing” so if you like BECKONED I think you’ll like this.
About halfway through, MAJESTY started feeling like a retelling of “Les Liaisons dangereuses” which is one of my faves. Nothing like some intrigue to keep you guessing!
I really hope a third book is written because the story doesn’t feel finished yet. I have so many questions!!!
Thanks for a fun ride @katharinemcgee

American Royals II: Majesty
Katharine McGee
The American Royals series/ duology conclude with this book, the Majesty by Katharine McGee. The writing was amazing and I loved the follow up to the American Royals, which I find is absolutely amazing read and very creative concept when I read this last year. You definitely have to read the first book to learn about the characters and the whole concept of the world Katharine created in the American Royals – which was absolutely fantastic. The characters were all amazing and the drama is just incredible.
Without giving anything away, I want to let you know that there are a lot of surprises to come along the way, and please do not hate the book because of it. I know we all want our HEA but this book throws a few curve balls.
Fantastic writing, very creative concept, and a great YA read. I highly recommend.
Typical of any YA TV drama, throw out all that you loved about American Royals, all of your preconceived notions and hopes for what’s to come, and enjoy the angsty, drama filled ride. Except your love for Bee, Sam, and Nina and your hate for Daphne. You can keep those feelings.
I finished this a few days ago and was left feeling bent out of shape. Why? Why is there not a third book already in the works? I love neat tidy bows at the end of any story and with so much left unresolved, I struggled to write a coherent review.
Now that I have words again, I actually love that nothing I originally wanted panned out. Kudos to Katharine for driving my emotions and investing me in these characters lives. I would have loved to see more Jeff, but Marshall, Teddy, and Ethan more than made up for the need for diverse and strong male counterparts. It’s a great sequel with the potential to become an amazing series someday. Maybe. Hopefully!?

OKAY? OKAY.
I LOVED this book. Maybe more than the first. I think it’s all because of Teddy and Bea. Even though I only read AR a few months ago, I had lost all emotional connection to Connor and Bea and was fully team #TEA this entire book. I loved their relationship, I love the Mickey Mouse ears (Katherine, please make them elope to Walt Disney World!!!), I love it all. Connor who? I just waited until I got to the next Bea chapter. I wish I had a whole book of Bea chapters.
I was fairly satisfied with the ending, even though I know others weren’t. I’m so happy Sam and Marshall are happy, and Teddy and Bea are happy, and Robert got fired (why did that not happen sooner). I am fine with what happened with Nina because you know what, girl, you can be on your own and go on a World Tour with Sam, and you don’t need a man or maybe date someone outside the royal circle? And I agree Daphne needs a public shaming at minimum and jail time at maximum, but being resolved to live a loveless life is a pretty bad punishment. But Jeff doesn’t deserve it, and I can’t imagine Bea letting it happen. Daphne’s story is why I want a third book. I home Random House signs on for a third book SO BAD!! ARE YOU LISTENING RANDOM HOUSE? PLEASE GIVE US A THIRD BOOK!
5 stars – 9/10
Bea is now the Queen and faced with the decision of following her heart and being with Connor or pursuing what America expects her to be with, Teddy. The stakes get even higher as being Queen for a country that needs a leader. Sam, after being burn by the people who say they love her, is willing to play with fire in the arms of Lord Marshall Davis. Nina, dealing with the aftermath Jefferson, tabloids and national gossip find unexpected comfort from her ex’s best friend. Daphne continues to fight for Jefferson’s heart and in the process realizes what she really wants. I enjoyed getting deeper into the character’s stories, it was a book version of E! tv show. The drama, tears, lust, and the betrayals kept getting hotter as life gets harder for each of the characters, giving way to who they really are.
I’m so disappointed. I can’t say too much without completely spoiling the book, but that ending was awful. There NEEDS to be a third book. I’m not satisfied with the ending we were given – I’m upset and angry over it.
The only character I was really rooting for in this book was Sam. I loved her new love interest and she did a lot of awesome, selfless things. I was so proud of Sam. There were also a few moments when I was proud of Beatrice, although those were fewer.
That’s really the only positive thing I have to say about this book. I think I’m about to cry again just thinking about it, so if you’ll excuse me, I need to go emotionally recover from “Majesty.”
(I’d just like to note that my rating and opinions of the book would be so much higher if I knew this wasn’t the end. If there was officially a third book coming, I would be happy because I would know that this isn’t a conclusion – just another masterfully suspenseful end to the book, not the story.)
A decent follow-up.
Majesty was entertaining and a fun read. I knocked off stars because of the predictability of the plot and how much I truly dislike Daphne. Even with her moments of relate-ability,
***SPOILERS***
the fact that she hasn’t really suffered any consequences for her actions is driving me crazy. I did not like the fact that Jeff is presented as an overall nice guy but is obviously stupid. Also, the fact that we don’t really see him interacting with either of his sisters is a bit strange to me. Especially considering the fact that he and Sam are twins. #justiceforjeff
I did like the plotline for Beatrice this time around. I hope she turns the monarchy and the government on its head.
Overall a fun, easy read.
I’ll give Majesty this, it did provide a teensy bit more of what I wanted from American Royals. If you’re going to remake America into a monarchy, you should touch on things that would be different without a democracy. To say that this book is anything but a teenage drama written out would be a lie. Basically, this book took all the romances that built up in the last book and turned them on their heads. Strengths became weaknesses and vice versa. I enjoyed the fluff book for what it was until right before the end. Daphne’s decision was so out of the blue and uncharacteristic for her, I found it hard to believe. The thing that saved the ending for me was Beatrice’s change to being more assertive. I wanted this to be a four star book, but it remains at a 3.5 for me.
