In American Rebel, bestselling author and acclaimed film historian Marc Eliot examines the ever-exciting, often-tumultuous arc of Clint Eastwood’s life and career. As a Hollywood icon, Clint Eastwood–one of film’s greatest living legends–represents some of the finest cinematic achievements in the history of American cinema. Eliot writes with unflinching candor about Eastwood’s highs and lows, … Eastwood’s highs and lows, his artistic successes and failures, and the fascinating, complex relationship between his life and his craft. Eliot’s prodigious research reveals how a college dropout and unambitious playboy rose to fame as Hollywood’s “sexy rebel,” eventually and against all odds becoming a star in the Academy pantheon as a multiple Oscar winner. Spanning decades, American Rebel covers the best of Eastwood’s oeuvre, films that have fast become American classics: Fistful of Dollars, Dirty Harry, Unforgiven, Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, and Gran Torino.
Filled with remarkable insights into Eastwood’s personal life and public work, American Rebel is highly entertaining and the most complete biography of one of Hollywood’s truly respected and beloved stars–-an actor who, despite being the Man with No Name, has left his indelible mark on the world of motion pictures.

Sometimes I like to read about real people and real things and who better than Clint Eastwood unless it would John Wayne or Paul Newman!
I enjoyed the book , I grew up in the 60’s and watch Easrwood evolve from Rowdy Yates to a film star to a blockbuster , read about him in the tabloids and thourly enjoy his films and directing now. So when I …
The book gave a different side of Clint
Pretty good read for an overview of Clint. It didn’t whitewash his faults or dwell too heavily on them. Let’s you get to know the man better.
I never really knew the actor. Was a really good read.
I was pretty bored by this book and at about half way through it I just wanted it to end to go on to another book. It was just full of data. Dates: films cost to make, profits made. Who directed what and when; who got fired and why And in my opinion, it did not paint a pretty picture of Clint Eastwood, whom I adore. Too bad really. It …
This book would have been better if the author had the cooperation of the subject.
I ;didn’t like it and quit reading after three chapters.
It isn’t a fast read. Maybe I was more interested in his family life than hearing about all the making of his pictues.
Not a bad bio. Got a bit boring at t imes.
Very boring!!!!
I always liked Clint Eastwood but now, not so much. If you want to retain your rosy view of an admitedly great actor, don’t read this book.
I really enjoyed this book. It was quick reading and very informative. Always enjoyed all his movies but did not know a lot about him. Good read.
Entertaining but shocking in parts
Kind of disturbing. Shows imperfections and his republican leaning.
Had no idea about Eastwood’s life. What an interesting person and his style of living was totally all his own. He definitely is an original.
Didn’t know Eastwood was such a woman’s man, always cheating on his wife. Not too smart but keen enough to be highly successful. So, business wise, excellent. As a man with morales and integrity—he sucks.
It was interesting to hear some things regarding his climb to fame
Learned how hard & long Clint Eastwood had to work & persevere to overcome the biased liberal Hollywood establishment, especially to direct his own movies the way he wanted to. I admire his determination, ability to adapt, and overwhelming success with his movies, despite the odds against him. Very versatile actor & director who is greatly …
I liked Eastwood before and now I like him more. He is one talented man!!
The author wrote well but I came away disliking Clint Eastwood. A lot. You’ll have to find out why.
