Only Detective Michael Bennett stands in the way of two lethal cartels fighting for New York City’s multi-million-dollar opioid trade. And they know where Bennett, and his family, live.
An anonymous tip about a crime in Upper Manhattan proves to be a setup. An officer is taken down–and, despite the attackers’ efforts, it’s not Michael Bennett. New York’s top cop is not the only one at risk. … Bennett.
New York’s top cop is not the only one at risk. One of Bennett’s children sustains a mysterious injury. And a series of murders follows, each with a distinct signature, alerting Bennett to the presence of a professional killer with a flair for disguise.
Bennett taps his best investigators and sources, and they fan out across the five boroughs. But the leads they’re chasing turn out to be phantoms. The assassin takes advantage of the chaos, enticing an officer into compromising Bennett, then luring another member of Bennett’s family into even graver danger.
Michael Bennett can’t tell what’s driving the assassin. But he can tell it’s personal, and that it’s part of something huge. Through twist after twist, he fights to understand exactly how he fits into the killer’s plan, before he becomes the ultimate victim.

James Patterson might be one of the most popular authors around, but he really upped the game when he added James O. Born as a co-author to “Ambush.” James O. Born. a Barry Award-winning writer, has several great books of his own to brag about, and he was career law enforcement with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and as a former U.S. Drug agent. Born’s the real thing, and his input shows in this latest book by the team of Patterson and Born.
A very informative continuation of the Michael Bennett story line, cannot wait until the next one comes out.
Better than some of the recent ones by this author. One you don’t want to put down til the end.
The Michael Bennett, NYPD detective, character is always a good read. I enjoy following Bennett into the meat of the story and action as much as I enjoy reading about the ‘interludes’ of family life with his 10 adopted kids and Mary Catherine, his fiancée of TOO long. His aging grandfather, also a priest, is an added bonus. Seamus keeps the Bennett family in line…most of the time. This book kept the action going from the first chapter to the last. OH and I love the short chapters. It makes it easy to ‘stop’ and to pick back up.
I always love JP, and the Michael Bennett series is one of my favorites.
Yet another great book in the Michael Bennett series. He is a NYPD detective, who is widowed and lives with his 10 adopted children, his Irish nanny/girlfriend, Mary Catherine, and his grandfather, Seamus. When this book starts, Mike and his partner are in a building looking for a drug dealer when they are ambushed. As a result of this ambush, Mike discovers that there is a drug war between Mexican and Canadian dealers and he’s caught in the middle and realizes that he’s a potential target.
Ok, this was probably the best book in the series. LOVE MICHAEL BENNETT!!!!! I love the interesting crime stories that the author produces and the really great characters in the investigations. While I do enjoy the family dramas as well, this one was particularly fascinating. I’m even warming up to the MB/MC storyline now that they’re getting married. I’ve never been a fan of that storyline but it’s finally developing into something.
I enjoy the Michael Bennett series because of the different characters and the situations involved.

The action kept me on the edge of my seat. Enjoyed reading the Michael Bennet story. The action and characters are believable. The story is gripping. When Michael is in the bomb blast, you understand the title of the book. Read it if you get a chance.
I’ve read all the Bennet series and really like them.
