Good paranormal with original characters in an odd little town. Stands alone but I have enjoyed the series.
Amber affairs lives up to its name. I especially enjoyed the meeting of Josh and Amber after so many years apart. I also like the fact that Amber allows her nephew Zeke to come stay with her, as grandma is a monster.
Amber Affairs is the 6th book in Patricia Rice’s Crystal Magic Series. We revisit Amber Abercrombie, a former child star, gift store owner, tarot card reader and doting aunt. She came to Hilldale to hide in plain sight in order to forget her past and to create a new normal. This story introduces Josh Gabriel who was her co-star in the series “Jack and Ginger,” a blast from the past Amber had hoped to avoid.
Josh shows up in Hilldale to plan his marriage of convenience to Willa Powell, Hollywood royalty. She is a producer with the money and Josh is a fantasy director. When Willa is murdered and becomes a challenging but entertaining ghost, the town gets together to help her find her peace and cross over. Josh stays in Hillvale to find the culprit and, in the process, rekindles his relationship with Amber, helping her by helping her take care of her nephew, Zeke.
Amber Affairs touches on the horrors of pedophilia, body-shaming, dysfunctional parents and the dark side of the “beautiful life” in Hollywood. I appreciate that Pat is not afraid to touch on some of the ills of society. The supportive aspect of the Hilldale community and the blessing of friendship flows through the entire book. I recommend this story if you enjoy romance and mystery mixed with a bit of the paranormal, and most importantly, a happy ending.
Amber Affairs by Patricia Rice
Crystal Magic #6
I do love Hillvale, California and wish I could go visit sometime! This town has great characters, a small town feel, friends that are there for one another and…MAGIC.
Amber Abercrombie runs a shop in town that sells crystals, tarot cards and other new age items. She reads the Tarot for clients and has a good life filled with friend. When Josh Garbriel walks into her shop it is a blast to the past when he recognizes her as the child star he worked beside, became friends and then lovers with over a decade ago. With Josh engaged and having his wedding soon in Hillvale there is no chance for more than catching up but when Fiance Willa ends up dead…well the story really heats up.
Josh can’t rest till he knows who killed Willa and though their marriage was more one of convenience and PR than true love there was affection and he wants to KNOW who the murderer is and why Willa was murdered. Josh and Amber begin to fall into their old friendship patterns – although – as adults there might be more…maybe? Throw in Amber’s nephew, Zeke, who wants to come stay with her for the summer, the Lucy contingent with their special abilities, evil from more than one person and the potential for romance and the story had me flipping pages rapidly to find out if Josh and Amber would get their happily ever after…and who the murderer was.
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely
