This offering brings Amanda and James to cross paths bound for a western land via the Oregon Trail. Definitely another keeper in this series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Amanda takes place in the year1855, and is part of Cynthia Woolf’s “Brides of the Oregon Trail” series. Twenty-four year old Amanda is leaving Independence, Missouri to become a mail-order bride. She and her teammate Jeanie are traveling by covered wagon to meet their fiancés-to-be in Oregon City, in the Oregon Territory.
A good portion of this story takes place en route, where Ms. Woolf skillfully describes a woman’s life along the Oregon Trail. During this time, Amanda falls in love with Jamie, who has come to Missouri to accompany Jeanie, his intended bride, back with him to Oregon. However, Jeanie falls in love with someone else on the wagon train, which gives Jamie the chance to fall in love with Amanda.
Despite that, Amanda still wants to honor her contract with Lewis, her intended. When she arrives, Amanda asks Lewis for time to get to know him first. Lewis refuses, and physically abuses Amanda.
The rest of this story is a fantastic historical romance that includes an evil villain and lots of deception, trickery and violence. Throughout the story, Lewis attempts to destroy and kill Amanda and Jamie.
This is a page-turner that is one of the best books in this series.
After Amanda was abandoned by Ernest even though they had planned to be married she decided to become a mail order bride and after corresponding with her husband to be, which was more than a year ago. Her fiancé to be Lewis Baxter sent 600 for the trip, she wondered why he had sent so little but as it was she was lucky her portion of the wagon and stock only cost her 400 because she teamed up with Jeanie her new best friend for this trip.
Mr Titus who she had hired to help prepare her and Jeanie for the trip said the wagon they had purchased was in good shape and he showed them how to use firearms, build and cook on a fire outside, drive a team how to setup what they would need etc. for the journey.
Amanda, as the oldest of ten girls she already knew how to do most everything. This is The Very Basic Beginning to a wonderfully written suspenseful, extremely romantic love story I could not put down. Wonderful characters, engaging and suspenseful plot. I was given this and I voluntarily leave this review.
This story is about Amanda and Jamie who meet on the wagon train from Independence, MO to Oregon City. Jamie came from Oregon City to marry Amanda’s travelling companion, but they discovered that they had no chemistry between them. However sparks soon fly between Amanda and Jamie, but since Amanda was jilted herself, she is unwilling to do the same to her mail order husband. Once Jamie finds out to whom she is betrothed, he tries to warn her about how abusive the man is, but Amanda cannot reconcile that description with that of the man who wrote her letters. Amanda is also unwilling to break her word because she feels that it is all she has. Once the wagon train arrives in Oregon City, Amanda decides to visit her betrothed and decide for herself what kind of man he is and man does she learn the hard way. Upon hearing that Amanda does not want to get married right away, Baxter decides to teach her a lesson by not only raping her, but also beating her within an inch of her life.
Once Amanda regains consciousness, she makes her way to the doctor’s house. After he stitches her up, he helps her return to the wagon train where she encounters not only her friend, but Jamie. Amanda decides to press charges against Baxter and Jamie offers her protection and a safe haven at his place. Read this wonderful story to find out if Baxter gets what he deserves; if Amanda can reclaim her self-worth and if Amanda and Jamie can find a happy ending.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Another wonderful addition to this great series. Amanda is traveling with her friend Jeanie on the Oregon trail to meet up with her future husband Lewis Baxter. Jeanie’s future husband Jamie is traveling in a different wagon in the hope they can get to know each other. But pretty quickly Jeanie falls in love with another man who is going along as an outrider and decides to not marry Jamie.
There is definately a spark between Amanda and Jamie though but she is determined to fight it and marry the man she said she would. Silly girl! Jamie and handsome and such a good guy..
Unfortunately Lewis is not a nice man and mistreats Amanda. Will she survive and will Jamie come to her rescue?
I have loved each story in this series and this is no exception. The author always know just how to pull at the heart and bring the two that belong together at the end of their journey. Don’t miss this one and if you have not read the others, I encourage you to do so! You will adore every one!
Jamie was supposed to marry Amanda’s friend after they get to Oregon. She met another man and Jamie is just fine with that because he instantly fell in love with Amanda. Amanda loves Jamie, but she made a promise to marry someone else. She will not go back on her word. Jamie knows her intended and knows that he is a brutal man. He tries to warn Amanda, but she will not change her mind. Her word is her bond. When she tries to tell her intended that she wants to take her time before they marry, he brutally attacks her. She survives and knows that she will not rest until he pays for his crimes. Too many people have let his go. As he terrorizes her, Jamie lets her know that he still loves her and wants to marry her. Not matter what happened to her. It wasn’t her fault. She is having a hard time believing that, but finally consents to marry Jamie. Now he just has to keep her safe until Baxter is caught.
Torn between duty and attraction to Jamie Kilbride, Amanda stiffens her spine and determines to fulfill her promise to marry Lewis Baxter as a mail-order bride despite what her heart tells her. Unfortunately, she finds out the hard way just how evil Baxter is and it is Jamie who helps her put the pieces back together again. This novelette is fairly short but it is well written and suspenseful as Amanda navigates the difficult path of bringing a criminal to justice and overcoming the effects of his attack on her. I loved Jamie and Amanda’s friends and could also appreciate Amanda’s character as she has been forged in fire and came out stronger on the other side. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Very well written and exciting. It has lots of twists and turns, danger, surprises, various emotional situations and much more, She has a whirlwind of situations with an ex-fiance, new fiance and another man. One loves her and the other two just want trouble. I recommend it. I received a review copy and voluntarily review it.
