One day I was be-bopping along jamming to the music in my head while wondering if my thighs could handle grabbing a cupcake on the way home. The next thing I knew, my entire world crashed and burned.I used to wake up at night in a sweat, crying because I’d dreamt my husband was cheating on me, or he hated me, and resented our kids. He’d always hold me close and tell me it was all just a dream, … a dream, that he loved me and our family and he’d never let us go.
He was a f*cking liar.
Now I spend my days taking photos of scum just like him, trying to be a champion for others who are being taken advantage of by the losers in our town, and my nights being a single mom to my beautiful twins.
I’ve got great friends who always have my back and a sexy, mysterious motorcycle man who keeps showing up when I need him. Things are finally starting to look up. And one thing’s for sure… There’s always room for cupcakes.

Most of my novels are PG-13, but I do dip my toes in steamier stuff. A great author for that is Bethany Lopez and her Always Room for Cupcakes is a great place to start. Get ready to laugh. And blush.
I thought this story was a hoot. The synopsis was dead on and it was a bit filthy, very entertaining, and made me feel for the main character trying to survive. The characters were fun, the mystery bit light, and the hot guy very hot. Set up the characters and series well that I want to read more. Not a cozy light mystery but still well written and I liked it. More dwells on the main character and her crazy life as she gets over her bad ex then the mystery.
First book for this author, and won’t be the last. Plenty of romance, intrigue, “comeuppance”, laughs
and downright scary parts. Love these characters and couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen in the end.
Lila is recently divorced and has taken a job as a photographer for the local PI. It helps pay the rent and she enjoys exposing other cheating douches like her ex-husband. When her jobs drops her into the middle of something she shouldn’t have seen she meets Cade, hot biker, who rescues her. Some how they keep ending up meeting and the chemistry is intense.
I wasn’t sure what to read and grabbed this off my never ending TBR pile and so glad I did. This book has some light and funny parts as well as rough and gritty. Suspense to keep you turning the pages. Lila’s girls are a riot and I really want to go spend a day with them. Cade is broody and handsome in his biker way but he shows a side to Lila that no one else sees. Grabbing book 2 to jump right in.
What a fun read! Although I’m now craving cupcakes. 😉 Delilah is a great character and so are her friends.
Wow! Every emotion is evoked throughout. Really kept me on the edge of my seat.
Entertaining!
A divorce filming for a PI gets involved with crime solving and falls for a new man.
Always Room for Cupcakes by Bethany Lopez
Rating: 5/5
Delilah “Lila” Horton is an investigative photographer who works for Moose. She started on this path not by choice but definitely by chance. A cheating ex-husband and the instinct of having photo proof started it all.
As Lila dives into her new work, she meets Cade during one of her outings. Cade Wilkes is a mysterious biker/observer who always seems where Lila finds herself in a “bind.” He would help or bail her out of such a predicament. During one of those “rescues,” he confesses his feelings towards Lila that took her by surprise. Lila could not wrap her head around his attraction towards her, but she does feel the same.
The problem now is how:
1) to accept that things are complicated with her new line of work,
2) to have a serious relationship with a man who does not do relationship, and
3) to keep her family safe when she stumbled on new evidence that can break Greenswood’s biggest case as of date.
The story was well written and told from Lila’s POV only. I enjoyed the mystery side of the book and appreciated the author’s focus on solving the case. The conflict in Lila’s personal life came second, and that is why I got the book. Who knew that the small sleepy town of Greenswood would have such exciting things happening from intrigue, deceit, drugs, guns, and goons.
I enjoy seeing Lila learning to reinvent herself after a traumatic discovery with two kids and twelve years into her marriage. In Always Room for Cupcakes, Lila learns how to accept what happened to her marriage, how she needed to focus on herself, her kids, and getting the photograph proof needed for her clients. The healing and forgiveness moments were memorable, mainly when she spoke to her ex-husband about why they couldn’t make it work. That moment signals to readers that Lila is finally ready to start moving on by closing that “dark part.”
There is a lot of “taking risks” for Lila, and it pushed her to open up her options at the end when everything blew over.
I like how Cade and Lila, two broken main characters, knew that they needed each other from the start. They seem to understand each other and understand what they wanted from the other, maybe due to their maturity and experience throughout the years. Cade was fantastic and patient, with Lila still adjusting to her divorcee status. He was caring, thoughtful, but still rough and rugged on the side to fit him.
Overall, I enjoyed the book, and it is an excellent start to the series. I recommend it to readers who love bada$$ female protagonist, healing and redemption, suspense/mystery with a side of a steamy alpha male in Cade. The story is entertaining at one point, then serious when Lila goes on assignment. Her duality of trying to “blend” under the guise of a housewife versus an investigative photographer is genius!
I cannot wait to start on this exciting and intriguing heroine’s journey and from this author.
All the above and more! I wasn’t too sure about this book, because the cover is plain; but let me tell you, don’t let the cover mislead you! This story catches and holds on to you from page one to the last. Lila’s first person point of view is fresh and spunky. I didn’t get any feeling to eye roll from yet another first person story. Lila’s life is real, her opinions are sharp, and her love life smokin’! Her new boyfriend is Jason Mamoa hot! Her ex-husband really is a douche, and her friends are the best. I’d like to be her friend. This is one exceptionally written book!
When a divorced mother’s job as a photographer for a local P.I. causes her to tangle with a drug dealer, a good looking biker comes to her rescue, but even he can’t keep her entirely safe from the fall out.
Always Room for Cupcakes is an entertaining romance/P.I. adventure story with a hunky bad boy hero, a naive house-wife heroine and plenty of action.
A great escape for a quiet afternoon.
Great beach read.. kept me interested, some laughs and tears. Nice easy summer read.
So so funny! Laugh out loud funny. Loved so much i went and got the rest in series right away. Will be following this author!
When Lila’s daughter is sick and she can’t get in touch with her husband, does she run straight to the hospital with her sick child? No, she goes searching the town for him. In such a small town, he wasn’t hard to find, but when that Lila finds him in the backseat of the car with his face between the thighs of another woman, she gets mad and then gets even. Snapping a pic of the couple, she then proceeds to print out the picture, run copies, and hang them up around town.
This act of revenge though has brought a new job her way. She’s now a photographer for Moose, a private eye. She’s good at getting in and getting the incriminating images, or so she thinks. She’s been made by numerous people, from a drug dealer, to a reporter who asks to do a story on her, to her ex-husband. On a case involving some suburban women who are possibly becoming drug dealers, she meets Cade. The hot, alpha male riding a motorcycle who comes to her rescue.
When one of her best friends tells her that Cade is in a MC, Lila doesn’t seem to care too much. When she does talk to Cade about it, he promises that his involvement in the MC will have nothing to do with his interest in her. It seems that Cade is tired of the love ‘em and leave ‘em lifestyle he’s been living all these years and has set his sight on Lila.
This isn’t a fluffy HEA though. When Lila’s kidnapped, she gets a drug that turns her into a zombie blown into her face. When she’s told to do horrible things by the kidnappers, she does, no thought involved, even when it comes to hurting herself, and her boss.
If you like snarky characters, witty writing, an interesting storyline, and cupcakes, you’ll want to read Always Room for Cupcakes, the first book in the Delilah Horton series.
This was a cute quick read by a new to me author. This was quirky and funny at times with some steamy scenes and a little bit of suspense thrown in. Lila has been dealt a bad hand by a cheating Ex. But she turns her misfortune into a job working with a PI. She meets Cade who is far from her usual type but their chemistry is off the charts. There is a bit of mystery around him because he is in an MC but he is all in for a relationship and they make it work. I loved the secondary characters that were Lila’s best friends. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.
A terrific story. Told in first person, we find life after divorce anything but boring. Deciding to help a local PI catch more cheating spouses, taking pictures becomes a new way of life. This sometimes funny, sometimes suspenseful story kept my attention from start to finish.
Stephanie Garner did a good job narrating although through a lot of it she either had sound problems or was moving away from the mic at times.
I recieved a free Audible copy of this story, at my request, in exchange for a honest review.
Always Room for Cupcakes was a cute, quick read. The story is told solely from Delilah’s point of view but I found I didn’t need Cade’s point of view to tell the story. The fact that he was mysterious helped with his background of being in an MC. Delilah or Lila was a single mom of twins working hard for a PI as an investigative photographer after catching her husband cheating on her. She was strong and funny and best of all loved cupcakes and ate them at regular intervals which made her more realistic. I’m interested to see what the rest of the series entails.
Was disappointed when it ended. Can’t wait to read the next !
I listened to this book in audio. I really enjoyed this story and meeting these characters. I’m excited to read the next books in this series. I believe I need me a CADE and quite possible a CUPCAKE! … especially a chocolate fudge cupcake!!!
Very enjoyable, well-written happy, fluffy novel.
