I’m an Elizabeth Goddard fan! Since reading her books from the Love Inspired Romantic Suspense Series and now with this new heart stopping series. I always think she can’t get any better than her last book and she always surprises me!
This is the second installment in the Uncommon Justice Series and I can say it’s definitely one of her best stories. It can be read as a standalone, but you’ll get a fuller story if you read “Never Let Go” first. The characters are related and it is always great to read about a character that you get to meet in the previous book.
This time it’s, Heath McKade, Austin’s brother story. And Harper’s. They both were childhood friends that bonded in a special way under similar tragic circunstances. Now, many years later, Heath would never expect to reconnect with Harper under extremely dangerous circumstances that may only make the past bond stronger.
Heath, now owner of Emerald M Guest Ranch, where guests can hike, alternates his job with volunteering for the sheriff as a deputy when needed.
Harper, counseled by her therapist, is taking a much needed break from her job as a crime scene photographer along with her novelist sister Emily. They end up outside their hometown, in Bridger-Teton National Forest, an ideal place for taking pictures of nature. That is, until the camera shoots an unintended criminal scene. As Harper is discovered and shot at, she tries to escape, only to fall, get injured and loose her camera.
That is how Heath discovers her, because Harper’s incident takes place near Heath’s and his group camping.
When he hears the shot and scream he runs to her aid, totally unexpecting the trouble and deadly danger that will come after this encounter. Harper has no proof of what she witnessed because of the camera she lost, but she’s determined to seek justice this time, and do all that she can to bring this murderer to where he can no longer be a threat to people. But that means allowing to be the target, along with her sister, and now Heath, who is determined to protect them until the end.
This is a thrilling story! I have to say that it kept me up until the wee hours of the night until I finished. I was totally enraptured with the plot, and the unexpected twists, but also with the deepness of the characters. Heath and Harper, both had tragic and hurtful pasts, and they both had to deal with forgiveness issues and especially with trusting God. God doesn’t want bad things to happen to us. He may allow it, but only because He can bring greater good from it. I loved how they grew both in faith together. Elizabeth’s books always have a faith elements, but not in a preachy way. I always find it natural and inspiring!
I felt totally related to the characters and their struggles. The suspense really kept me on my toes until the end. I couldn’t help the anguish of finding out who the culprit was, who to trust or don’t. It had some totally unexpected twists and the ending was amazing. I loved it!
I can’t wait third book this series! I’m hoping it will be Liam’s -the mysterious brother- story.
The romance was very sweet and totally clean. They really had it difficult to show their feelings while being hunted, but there are some very sweet scenes. And the way they see each other, I loved that.
I thought it was spooky and well done, yet unexpected, when the villain had a voice in the book. Made it more mysterious.
Summing everything up, its a page turner story, that I definitely recommend! You won’t regret it!
I found this novel to be infinitely better than the first book in the series. Goddard has definitely hit her stride in publishing with the “big dogs”, so to speak. Placed in the mountains of Wyoming, the setting does not lack for beauty. Heath is a former Green Beret and now owns and maintains a guest ranch. Harper is a crime scene photographer who is currently using her lens to capture more beauty, at the suggestion of her therapist. While photographing a grizzly, Harper witnesses a murder of a woman through her camera lens. Will she be next?
This book kept you turning the pages. The characters were well thought out and believable, which was what I found to be most improved from the first book in this series. It felt like Goddard really fleshed these two out and made sure they were compatible. Her attention to detail with both the profession of photography and the realities of crime scene protocol also helped authenticate the story. All in all, I wish this was where the series began. The suspense, scenery, and story structure are all breath taking. I would absolutely recommend this book and will pick up future Goddard titles without hesitation.
I was given an early copy of this manuscript through NetGalley for my honest review. I also received a completed print copy from Revell on behalf of the author. All opinions expressed are my own.
Incredible suspense and intrigue filled the whole novel. The entire read will captivate your attention totally, and you will not want to put the book down. Right from the first chapter, the characters and plot will pull you into their world. Main characters, Heath and Harper, will take you on their adventures of crime solving and interaction with law enforcement. As a ex crime scene photographer, Harper is swooped back into that underground world and is haunted by it. She tries to seek justice for a murder she witnesses, while on vacation in Wyoming. One she witnesses while snapping photos while out hiking in the woods. A bubbling romance rises to the surface and does not disappoint. Many twists and turns to the suspense will make the reader not want to put down this book. One of the best reads for me so far this year!
Wow! Always Look Twice was fantastic! This story quite literally started off with a bang and the danger and tension just didn’t let up. Whether I was frustrated with law enforcement for their doubts about what Harper saw, wondering exactly who was behind all of the death and destruction, or hoping that Harper and Heath could forgive themselves and make a future together, I was eagerly turning pages in this novel to find out what happened next.
The author kept me guessing until the exact moment that she revealed the villain. I am so often able to figure out who the bad guy is early on in stories, that it was refreshing to be able to read most of this book with enough doubt in my mind about who could be behind the chaos.
This is book two in the Uncommon Justice series, however, it can be easily read as a stand alone novel.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Always Look Twice by Elizabeth Goddard is the second book in her Uncommon Justice Series. Harper and Heath are pushed together by forces beyond their control as they seek to unravel a mysterious murder that Harper witnesses in a normally peaceful Wyoming town. The storyline is intriguing with dips and turns and wild rides that keep you are the edge of your seat. Will their trust in God and their rediscovered feelings for each other be enough to pull them together or will the continued violence in their lives be what drives them apart permanently? Elizabeth Goddard has written another “can’t put it down” book! Every book in the Uncommon Justice series has been fabulous! Imagine the beautiful Teton Mountains and Jackson Hole, Wyoming and add a handsome cowboy, a beautiful female photographer and a murder with no evidence! You won’t be sure who to trust until near the end! I recommend this riveting novel to anyone who enjoys suspense! I received a complimentary copy of Always Look Twice from the author. This is my honest opinion.
Just the first chapter grabbed me and didn’t let go…
“Harper Reynolds inched forward, hoping she hadn’t made a mistake in coming there. After she positioned her camera on the tripod, she zoomed in closer with her long telephoto lens.”
She just wanted a peaceful, serene environment to take pictures of nature and then…
“She focused her camera on the killer, taking a kill shot of her own.”
Wow… What an opening! A bear, a killer, and a witness…made for a great mystery. Returning to her hometown was never so dangerous! As Harper tries to escape from the killer she is injured. In steps her former childhood friend, Heath McKade. As a former Green Beret, now he is a volunteer deputy who tries to keep her safe and yet at arms length. They both struggle with past issues of hurt and trust. Can they overcome both before the killer finds them? Can they trust God enough to draw them together? The faith element was beautifully written into the story. As they grow in their faith, they worry what will happen next. A killer is hiding in their community and only they know the answers. As old secrets are revealed and bigger issues come out in the open, an ending with a twist will leave you stunned!
Though the characters struggles were real, I did get frustrated at times at how much they focused on the past. I loved when they finally stepped into the present and allowed healing. It reminds us of how easily we get stuck in the past instead of focusing on all God has for us.
Mystery, suspense, and fans of romantic adventure with s faith element will love this book. I can’t wait for the next release in the series.

Always Look Twice
Uncommon Justice #2
By Elizabeth Goddard
Harper Reynolds has returned to the place she used to call home. The place that shattered her family and her life. She is trying to heal from the past but the peace she was expecting to find while capturing the beauty of the Bridger-Teton Nation Forest near Grayback, Wyoming, is shattered when her camera captures something else.
Heath McKade has recovered physically from the gunshot wound he received less than a year ago, mentally he is still dealing with the betrayal. While taking his ranch guests on a guided trail ride and hike to a wilderness camp he hears something. The something that he searches for leads him to Harper – the friend from childhood he hasn’t seen since her mother suddenly moved them away. But Harper needs his help after an injury from a tumble – a tumble that was the result of witnessing a murder.
Harper is determined to not run this time. This time she will see justice done for the young woman she saw hunted down. This time she would be the witness that she couldn’t be for her father. This time justice will prevail. There is just one problem the local sheriff’s office can’t find any evidence to support Harper’s claims and her own evidence – her camera was lost during her fall.
Unfortunately for Harper, the killer saw her and now not only is her life in danger so too are the lives of those around her. And this killer won’t let anyone get in the way of his plans.
Always Look Twice is the second book in the Uncommon Justice series and this time around the McKade brother that takes center stage is Heath who upon their father’s death inherited the Emerald M Ranch. Heath and Harper are both hurting from the losses of their past – Harper her father and Heath his mother. This book is Contemporary Romantic Suspense and there are a lot of twists and turns that seemingly point to various persons who could be guilty. And the ending not what one might be expecting and it is a definite build to the climax.
I received a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion – all thoughts expressed are my own.
For those interested, the third McKade brother, Liam makes an appearance in this book and one can tell he has some issues that need to be dealt with. (Book 3 Don’t Keep Silent is sure to provide the answers one is left with concerning Liam – June 2020)
This is my first time reading this author and I will definitely be reading more.
A very well written suspense novel with great twists and turns. A great amount of detail was written into this book and you really felt like you were experiencing what the characters were.
Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Wow!!!
What an amazing book from Elizabeth Goddard in her Uncommon Justice series!
Goddard is a favorite author of mine, in fact I reread a lot of her books because I have enjoyed them so much. She has a talent for weaving words together that bring the plot, setting, and characters to life for me.
This is the second book in this series, but for me it’s an easy stand alone story. Yes, there is a common thread, but it’s not necessary to read the first book. I do encourage everyone to read the first book to get a full impact of the series, but it’s not necessary to have read the first one to enjoy this one.
In this book we meet Harper Reynolds and Heath McKade.
Harper has had a troubled life and has taken a leave from her job as a crime scene photographer to deal with all the trauma she has seen. She and her sister have been traveling and visiting national parks. She has witnessed the after effects of crime, but the one the has hung on for years was the murder of her father when she was a child.
Heath owns and runs Emerald M Guest Ranch in Grayback, Wyoming. He has his own ghosts. He’s a former Green Beret with his own troubled childhood. He has returned to own childhood home to make it into something more than what he remembered.
Memories linger.
Both characters are strong and complex. Harper once described herself as a survivor. She shows her strength of character as she seeks justice for a woman who no longer has a voice. Unfortunately that puts her in the crosshairs of a murderer and danger is all around her.
Heath is a protector, but lately he feels anything but. It seems like every time he tries to help something goes wrong, but this time there’s more on the line. He sees a woman in distress, but this isn’t just any woman. She’s a woman from his past.
I loved this book, in fact it may be my favorite from this author. It is a fast paced story packed with explosive suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat and turning the pages. The setting comes to life through the vivid descriptions and obvious research of the area. This books has elements of suspense, mystery, a touch of romance, and faith.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves suspense. For me this was a one setting read, meaning when I started reading I just couldn’t put it down.
**I received this book from the author via the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The first book in the series is titled Never Let Go, and you don’t want to miss that exciting story either!
In this installment, Heath is embroiled in his past memories that affect almost daily his heart, emotions and interactions with people. Harper, who was a friend in Heath’s childhood and whom he has never forgotten, is now in his present when he finds her in the mountains injured. Harper brings with her a boatload of pain from her job, her past and who knows what else. Heath runs a ranch guest business and now even that is being threatened. Who is aiming to hurt Harper and Heath, or is it just Harper?
On top of that, Heath has one brother who is now happily married, but he has no clue about his other brother. All he knows is the past keeps cramming his present and he is not seeing himself in any other way but a broken man. Now, with the small town where Harper and Heath were raised in turmoil, they wonder who is behind the bombings and killings even when facing the beautiful mountains that the area is known for by tourists.
There are many adventurous twists and turns in the story that will keep you glued to the book all the way till the end! I enjoyed the climactic ending, only wondering where the female lead got her flashlight when she finds herself trapped with others in a bunker! There is romance, danger, mystery and more in this second book in the Uncommon Justice Series. The author does a masterful job of bringing the reader along for a wild ride! There are some secondary characters that add such an intriguing dimension to the story. A little is revealed about them, but not where it overshadows the main players. So, kudos to the author for once again keeping me up at night and enjoying a wonderful tale!
Hope that you will read both Never Let Go and Always Look Twice before the third and final book is released next year.
#AlwaysLookTwice
#UncommonJustice
With nonstop action, heart-pounding suspense, and lots of twists and turns, Always Look Twice is a gripping, emotionally charged book sure to please those who enjoy clean romantic suspense. The colorful, well-drawn characters and the setting in the Teton area of Wyoming were especially interesting to me. I’ve spent a lot of time in that area including a couple of days right before reading this book. The main characters, Harper and Heath were engaging and multi-layered, but they both also had broken pasts they hadn’t entirely come to terms with. I enjoyed seeing their relationship develop and healing begin.
It was interesting to learn more about crime scene photographers and their techniques in processing the scene of a crime. With bombs going off in various places and characters getting killed, the suspense just kept ramping up and kept me guessing. Uplifting messages of faith, forgiving yourself and others, and hope are woven through the story and give added depth and dimension to it.
This is the second book in Goddard’s Uncommon Justice series, but it is easily read alone. I’m assuming that the next book will be Liam’s story, and I’m looking forward to seeing what he’s been up to. 4.5 stars
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from Revell/LibraryThing. All opinions are my own.
The story is a non stop thriller from start to finish. Harper is a very like able character who has been through a tough time. Her job as a crime scene photographer was becoming too emotionally draining for her. I want to stop here for a moment. I applaud the people that do this job for a living. They see things that is unimaginable and terrifying everyday. Without their efforts we would not be able to prove who committed a crime. I liked Harper because she realized she needed a break from this demanding job.
Her love for photography takes her into the woods to take scenic pictures one day that looked to be a pleasant outing. I have heard this said about cameras, “The camera never lies.” This one little statement for me is the focus of this story. What Harper sees through her camera on that unforgettable day will turn her life upside down. Can you imagine looking through the lens of your camera and witness a murder? I would run as fast as I could and never look back.
The book is well written with intrigue and danger that jumps off the pages. Harper is in danger but for some reason not everyone believes she saw anything. Losing her camera as she tries to get away from the scene will prove to be a huge mistake. The camera has evidence that someone doesn’t want anyone to find.
I loved Heath and how protective he was with Harper. He believes her and tries to help her find her camera and keep her safe at the same time. There is one scene in the book where I was on the edge of my seat. Harper and her sister are in a camper and suddenly it starts moving. That one terrifying moment knowing you have no control becomes a life or death situation. The author is brilliant at writing scenes that make you gasp and start hearing noises in your own surrounding. I have not read a book with this intensity in a long time.
Who is behind the murder and why can no one find the body? The author cleverly gives subtle hints to this question which can lead to speculation for readers. . The book is a wonderful journey through secrets, trust, danger and and letting go of the past. The faith element in the story is placed at perfect times and I did enjoy Harper and Heath dealing with their past. This has been a great story and I look forward to the next in the series.
I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my own opinion.
Always Look Twice ( Uncommon Justice Book #2 )
By: Elizabeth Goddard
Always Look Twice is book two in Uncommon Justice Series. Another page turner of action and suspense that keeps you turning the pages to see what is going to happen next. The story and the characters both are well written. I was captured right at the start and did not want to put it down. You just don’t know what a day of nature and picture taking will turn into . This book is full of action, danger , murder, mystery, and suspense. This is a wonderful read and the author keeps you guessing till the end.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book , but was not told that i had to give a positive review. All opinions are mine.
Right from the very first chapter I was enthralled and found doing my mundane chores such a bore and too time consuming. The action was heart pounding and the culprit a total mystery. I drew close to the characters with their individual issues and kept rooting for them.
Harper is photographing nature when she inadvertently sees a murder through her camera lens. Heath is a reserve deputy and came across Harper running from the scene. She thinks the man with the rifle saw her through his telescopic lens and when attempts on her life begin to happen, she is sure.
It was interesting to learn more about crime scene photography and what all is involved. Not just the taking of the pictures but what must be done afterwards. And Harper certainly is meticulous in what she does. Harper and Heath are childhood friends and Harper helped Heath during a stressful time in his life. They have reconnected after twenty years apart. Will Heath be able to help Harper out this time? Or will the murderer win out? I must admit that at forty percent through I thought I knew “who dunit” but the clues didn’t pan out for me. I love being proven wrong in these instances because it makes it more thrilling to keep reading. If you enjoy crime/murder/suspense stories you will love this one.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author through the publisher but was not required to write a review positive or otherwise. All opinions are strictly my own.

This is book 2 of the Uncommon Justice series. There are a few references to the first book in this book. It’s not necessary to read the first book to enjoy this book.
Harper is trying to get her life back on an even keel. She is on a leave of absence from her job to do just that. With her sister they are traveling the country in an RV. While in her hometown she witnesses a murder and runs for her life. Heath McKade, an old friend from years ago discovers her. As a reserve deputy, he is put in charge of her protection. There are several attempts made on her life and Heath keeps thinking he is failing her. Harper is learning to stand and fight back against her survivor guilt complex. Health doesn’t want to be classed as a hero because he thinks he always fails. This book has lots of twists and turns for the mystery lover. I can’t wait to read Liam’s story.
I was given this book by Revell Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
“Always Look Twice” is another great read by Elizabeth Goddard! I really loved the first book in this series, but I think I loved this one even more! I was hooked from the first page until the last. There was a twist in this book, also. I didn’t see the ending at all.
This book follows Harper Reynolds. Harper is a crime scene photographer, but she has taken a break for a more peaceful life. But as she is taking photographs of nature, she witnesses a crime. As she is running away, she drops her camera, which has the picture of the murderer. Heath McKade is a former Green Beret and an old childhood friend of Harper’s. He comes along to help Harper find who the murderer is. There is a lot of suspense and a little romance thrown into this book to make it a great read!
Elizabeth Goddard is one of my favorite authors. If you enjoy good, clean, romantic suspense fiction, you will definitely enjoy this book.
I received this book from the publisher for my honest opinion.
I knew from the get go that I would love this book after the first chapter! The characters are very realistic and everything I read felt like a movie scrolling along in my head! I was right there with them as the danger was happening around them, hoping they would get out alive! So, you can see, I was totally immersed in this book! All that happens is very believable so you aren’t saying, “oh that wouldn’t happen in real life!” which makes the book that much more enticing! I could feel Harper’s fear and anxiety because she had a huge trauma as a child and as an adult she has come back to the place where it happened and through sheer coincidence, another trauma happens! Thankfully, also by coincidence, her childhood best friend, Heath, rescues her just in time and becomes embroiled in that trauma. Between the two of them, they now are living with a murder investigation, bombs going off, a killer following them and a sheriff who can’t find a body! So many things happening that don’t seem connected, yet…..are they? Come along for the ride and read this fantastic book!
Always Look Twice, Uncommon Justice by Elizabeth Goddard
Always Look Twice is book 2 in the Uncommon Justice series. Never Let Go book 1, was a page turner but I promise Always Look Twice is much deeper. It starts out with intense action and just keeps going. It is full of riveting action that will have you at the edge of your seat. Harper finds herself photographing the wildlife in Bridger – Teton National Forest. The battle begins as she catch’s a murder in the lens of her camera. Heath helps her fight the bad guy. Always Look Twice is a powerful intriguing tale of faith, justice and fast paced action sure to keep you turning the pages. Elizabeth Goddard’s characters are believable and have you rooting for them. I have enjoyed every book of hers I have read. This book is a clean read, romantic suspense. I give this one 5 stars. Always Look Twice can be read as a stand along but is a great compliant to Never Let Go. I’m not sure if there is a book 3 but I can’t wait to get my hands on it if there is.
This series just keeps getting better and better. I loved the first book in this series, Never Let Go, but I think this one might have been ever better. This book was so well written, I was hooked from page one and did not want to put it down. The twists and turns kept me guessing throughout the story.
I loved Harper and Heath so much. Their chemistry was so strong. I loved how well they complimented each other and make each other better and stronger. They both had issues to overcome but with their faith, they were able to do so.
Recommendation: I highly recommend this book to anyone! Though this is the second book in the Uncommon Justice series, it can be read as a standalone. However, the first book is amazing as well, so you won’t want to miss it.
