At the advice of her therapist, homicide survivor Harper Reynolds has traded her job as a crime scene photographer for a more peaceful life taking photographs of the natural world. But her hopes for a life surrounded by the serenity of the outdoors are dashed when she inadvertently captures a murder being committed in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She flees the scene in fear–and loses the camera.Former … camera.
Former Green Beret Heath McKade is a reserve deputy in an understaffed county who has been called in to protect Harper, a childhood friend he is surprised to see back in the area. When Harper learns that the sheriff’s department can’t find any evidence of the murder she witnessed, she is determined to do what she can to see that justice is done. What neither Harper nor Heath could know is how many explosive secrets from the past will be exposed–or how deeply they will fall for each other.
In this suspenseful page-turner, bestselling author Elizabeth Goddard keeps you on the edge of your seat as you discover that uncommon justice lies just on the other side of fear.

Elizabeth Goddard not only provides a page-turning story, but believable characters I thought about long after I closed the book.
Broken Harper Reynolds tries to leave her responsibilities behind, but ghosts from the past won’t let her go. Despite her attempts to recuperate, she’s witness to a brutal murder. Her childhood friend, Heath McKade rediscovers his attraction to Harper or is it because he must now protect her from the killer?
NOTE: This book was my book club’s selection for this month. Even though I didn’t read book #1, the story stood alone and was enjoyable.
Always Look Twice is heart-racing suspense laced with intrigue from beginning to end. I was literally on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next.
Harper, a crime scene photographer, is an amazingly strong female character with loads of stamina and determination. She finds herself in the middle of a murder case while trying to have a relaxing vacation with her sister. While photographing wildlife she accidentally catches a murder in progress and then becomes a target.
The characters in the story find themselves in one twist after another. The story keeps you guessing and it is hard to put down.
The author weaves an amazing tale that delivers surprise after surprise. It’s a must-read and I can’t wait for the next one in the series.
Always Look Twice is the second book in the Uncommon Justice series, but read as a standalone. This Christian romantic suspense turns out to be more suspense than romance. I did enjoy the suspense as it kept me turning pages, the only downside I had with this particular book was the repetitiveness. It did get a bit slow in some spots but not enough to stop you from wanting to find out what happens next.
I would like to thank Revell for the ARC of Always Look Twice in exchange for my honest review.
Another Elizabeth Goddard book I could not put down! With her trademark flare for intense and fast-paced action and suspense, the author creates an intriguing tale where the past and the present coalesce when Harper, a crime scene photographer, returns to her hometown and becomes a target herself when she witnesses a murder. Heath, a guest ranch owner and volunteer deputy, is pleasantly surprised to see his childhood best friend return to their hometown but quickly gets embroiled in the trouble that follows Harper. The villain actually has a voice in the plot but the identity is cleverly concealed until the end. This easy-to-read story that combines a well-crafted plot, plenty of action and suspense, deeply layered and relatable characters, and great character development will draw you in from the first page. It’s book 2 in Uncommon Justice series but can definitely be read as a stand alone.
I received a copy of the book from Revell and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
Mini Review of Always Look Twice by Elizabeth Goddard:
After quickly reading the first book in the series the night before I started reading this one I was excited to find out more about the brothers and their relationship, with spot one suspense that was somewhat bothersome for me, and hard to stomach, I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first just because of the cruelty of certain characters that I pegged as the bad guy, then thought I was mistaken, and so on several times yet I was surprised by the bad guy and the ending. Where is the next book!?!
Harper Reynolds, homicide survivor, is haunted by survivor’s guilt. Needing a change of scenery from her job as a crime scene photographer, Harper and her sister head to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. While out photographing the amazing landscape, Harper witnesses a murder.
Heath McKade, a childhood friend and former Green Beret, is a volunteer deputy in Jackson Hole. He’s driven to protect others. In the procession of the murder investigation, it becomes apparent that Harper’s life is in danger. Heath is assigned to keep her safe.
I was immediately pulled into the story. The twists and turns kept me turning the pages. I love how the characters lived out their faith. I enjoyed visiting the community in Jackson Hole. I’m looking forward to returning in the third installment in this series.
Recommend to those who enjoy inspirational, romantic suspense.
I purchased a copy. All views expressed are my honest opinion.
This is the first book I have read by Elizabeth Goddard. It was an interesting story, fast paced, with plenty of action. I liked the characters, (Heath, Harper, Emily, Sheriff Taggart), but Heath and Harper’s personal relationship seemed weighed down for most of the story and then when it started to grow, the story ended too quickly with the finale. I also felt the sheriff’s situation needed a bit of a wrap up so he didn’t seem so unlikable. And, I am still wondering what happened to Pete, who initially was a suspect and worker at Heath’s ranch. I guess I like a full cup instead of a splash of romance and closure in my story. That being said, this was a good suspense story and I look forward to reading more of Ms. Goddard’s books.
This is the first book by Elizabeth Godard that I have read. It kept my interest, and I enjoyed it. The premise is that two sisters return to their childhood home in Wyoming to allow Harper to escape from her job as a forensic photographer, and deep-seated memories of witnessing her fathers murder when she was a child. While Harper is photographing nature, she witnesses a murder. Her sister, Emily, a mystery novelist, begs her to return home to Missouri. Harper also reconnects with Heath, her childhood friend, who also experienced trauma as a child, feeling responsible for his mother’s death.
In addition to the mystery aspect, there is some romance mixed in with danger. The characters also rely on their faith to help them overcome obstacles.

This suspenseful story will leave you breathless as a murder brings the characters together. Brilliant love story too <3
“…the man…had somehow quickly curled around her heart as though he would soften it and step right into her life”
“A defender. Protector. Brilliant, soul-piercing blue eyes in an epic fantasy-hero face.”
Harper and Heath are definitely on the top of the Favorite Hero/Heroine List! The non-stop roller coaster for ‘Who Done It?’ or ‘Who Done What?’ or just HOW much was done WHEN and WHY??? There were so many twists and turns that all worked together for the ending. ;o) NO SPOILERS! I’ll only say that Always Look Twice is just plain amazing, and makes me anticipate reading Don’t Keep Silent even more!
Loved this fast-paced book. I could not put it down for fear something might happen while I was away. It really moved quickly and I loved it!
I have to admit I figured out who the bad guy was before we were supposed to but it did not detract from the book. This was an amazing read. Lots of suspense and lots of mystery going on here.
I fell in love with the main characters. Harper has so much mystery around her and you really want to work harder to peel back the layers faster so you can find out what really happened all those years ago when she was a child.
And then you have Heath. We briefly met him in the first book of the series. Which is also another amazing book. I did read book one first when it came out and then read this one now. You don’t have to read them in order but they’re amazing and why would you not want to?
Get yourself the series and plan a good night of reading. But make sure you lock the doors and close the curtains or you might get a little paranoid.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Netgalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. Always Look Twice by Elizabeth Goddard is the second book in the Uncommon Justice series about the McKade brothers.
This story chronicles oldest brother Heath, a former Green Beret and presently owner of a guest ranch and a part-time deputy.
Harper Reynolds and sister Emily are touring National Parks in Emily’s vintage, refurbished Airstream. Harper is taking a break from her job as a crime scene photographer at the suggestion of her therapist. The last stop on their trip is a town they lived in as children, before their father was murdered. Harper, while photographing a grizzly bear, sees something horrifying through her camera lens.
Now someone is out to silence her. With the help and protection of her childhood friend, Heath McKade, she tries to put the pieces of the crime together and keep safe.
This was an extremely exciting book. The scene where the Airstream is barreling down a switchback is utterly terrifying. Ms. Goddard certainly kept me riveted to the story. The scenery is breathtaking and so is the suspense. The details of law enforcement and crime scene are well done. She has done thorough research. Get set for a wild ride. There are surprises in store and a great romance.
There is more to come in the next book about the remaining brother, Liam, just returned from several years undercover.
Highly recommended for fans of exceptional Christian Suspense.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher on behalf of the author. I was not required to give a favorable review. All opinions are my own.*
Well I had wanted to read this book slowly and enjoy it. Sorta didn’t turn out that way though. Oh no worries, I definitely enjoyed it but I devoured it in a page turning frenzy.
Each adrenaline soaked page read fueled me on to the climatic ending. Surely not how I would have expected it to end! The suspect was a real wack job let me tell ya and not at all who you would expect.
The female protagonist , an ex crime scene photographer is now a wildlife photographer at the advice of her doctor but keeps involved in the law enforcement community.
Law enforcement is supposed to be hardened to all situations but I do see a vulnerability in her.
There was a romance going but I enjoyed that it was secondary and didn’t overwhelm the story.
Now the long wait for the next book in the series but it’s so worth it!

I was given a complimentary copy of the book. Thank you.

There is enough intrigue to readers on the edge of their seats. Who would ever think that taking pictures in nature would lead to you witnessing a murder. Harper is trying to overcome the tragic events in her life and ends up embroiled in a murder investigation with Heath McKade, her former childhood best friend and crush.
This is the second book in the series and a great read.
I received this book from the publisher and the opinions expressed are entirely my own.
This story starts with a bang(literally!) and it moves quickly. I enjoyed getting to know Heath and Harper and I loved that they were childhood besties. The mystery element was very good and it left me with several suspects as I read the book. Just about the time I thought I had it all figured it, something else would happen and I would be left wondering again. The ending was exciting and it tied it all up nicely. Now the waiting begins for Liam’s story!
I received this book from the author and was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.
Always Look Twice by Elizabeth Goddard is the second book in the Uncommon Justice series and definitely worth reading if you love romantic suspense.
Harper Reynolds has recently changed jobs due to the stress level, but when she accidentally witnesses a murder she flees the scene and seeks protection from local law enforcement.
Heath McKade a childhood friend and a local reserve deputy is called on to protect Harper, but when the department can’t seem to find evidence of the murder Harper and Heath are determined to do all they can to get some answers while falling in love.
I’m definitely looking forward to reading more books in this wonderful series!
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
Great suspense!
This second book in the Uncommon Justice series is just as exciting as the first. Harper Reynolds and Heath McKade were best friends during their school days, moved apart due to tragic circumstances. Now, it appears they are being brought back together because of more tragedy. Harper just wants to take a break from the past, and find a fresh start. Instead, she finds herself facing new terror that may be more connected to her past than she realizes. When Heath discovers his childhood friend is in trouble, he is determined to give her the support she needs no matter how difficult it is for him to face his own fears.
Goddard always brings great characters and great suspense to her stories. She keeps the beautiful elements of faith and trusting in God written throughout the book. I highly recommend this series!

This is the second book in a series, and it’s just as good, if not better than the first!
The action is there, right from the very first page.
I loved Harper. She is a character you can’t help but seeing as a new friend.
She’s had a hard life. Not only does she carry guilt from the past, her occupation as a crime scene photographer has given her lots to process. So she takes some time off, goes on vacation…and then…witnesses a murder happening right before her eyes.
The feelings she has when nobody believes her. You will want to reach out and reassure her. And then, there’s Heath.
This entire story is filled with twists and turns, and I never knew quite what to expect next! If you like mysteries, at all, this fast paced suspense novel will captivate you and keep you riveted until the very last page. Elizabeth Goddard is quickly becoming one of my ‘must read’ suspense authors!

Elizabeth Goddard has done it again! The intense action begins on page one and it never lets up!! What starts out as a chance to photograph a black bear in its natural habitat at Jackson Hole, Wyoming, turns into Harper Reynolds witnessing a murder being committed. Suddenly, she herself is the murderer’s next target and what follows is a story filled with guns, bombs, and intense danger as Harper and her childhood friend Heath McKade desperately try to discover who the killer is. Nothing seems to go right as they try to stay ahead of this unknown person and there is also the extreme tension that comes from Harper and Heath’s personal connection during their struggle to stay alive. Even though there are so many obstacles to overcome, they find themselves reviving a friendship that is twenty years old.
‘It was as if an invisible force that spanned time and distance had brought them together again.’ (p. 184)
Author Elizabeth Goddard demonstrates once again her ability to increase heart rates and affect emotions and it isn’t just from the adventure and danger. It is apparent that Harper and Heath are physically attracted to each other but their past history and the hurts they have both endured seem to be roadblocks to a future together. Their efforts to stay alive and their attempts to forget the past allow Goddard to showcase the importance of faith and prayer in both of their lives.
“God, have you brought me through all of this only to die here and now?” (p. 346)
If you love mystery and adventure and if you enjoy romantic suspense with a faith-filled message, you will want to read Always Look Twice, the second book of the Uncommon Justice series. Elizabeth Goddard proves why she is such a well-loved author!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and publisher but a positive review was not required. These are my own thoughts.

Always Look Twice
By: Elizabeth Goodard
*REVIEW*
Always Look Twice is engrossing and thought provoking from page one. It is second in a series, but I read it as a standalone with no problem. Harper was a crime scene photographer, and she is now taking a break from that and taking nature photos. While at a national park near Jackson Hole, Harper accidentally photos a murder, and drops her camera while fleeing the scene. Having no evidence, no one believes her about the murder. Heath, a childhood friend, steps in, and together, he and Harper try to solve this crime before Harper becomes a victim herself. Both Harper and Heath have suffered trauma in the past that has affected who they are today. It is a struggle, but they carry on. I liked these characters because they seemed real with their actions and dialogue. The element of romance is present but not overly much-just well balanced. The setting is vivid and detailed. I could not pin down the bad guy, but I am actually happy about that because the story is so much better when it is truly a mystery. I never lost interest, and I read this book quickly for the answers! This story was a great suspenseful read, and I definitely want to read more from Elizabeth Goodard.
