I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
6 stars You cannot read this without reading the previous two books and as such my review will be brief and vague. This series gets better book after book. The tension, the angst, the emotions all heightened since the events of book 2. The flawed, broken characters all still pull at my heart strings and I’m nervous for every one of them. This makes me feel a lot of things. But then when does a book by this author not? I trust them though. Always.
This book has the most fireworks. Over this journey I feel like I am friends with Lele. Some scenes I cried, others I laughed, and other left my mouth hanging wide open. Who says what love is anyways
The perfect books and series for taboo romance lovers, Always by C. L. Matthews is the third installation of this authors Cape Hill and releases March 20th, 2019. This cannot be read as a standalone, and it is recommended to read the first two books in order to be properly experienced. It is in my opinion that the overall purpose of Always is love. As vague as it is, love plays a huge part of this novel, despite discussing various controversial issues; whether it be love in regards to relationships, love for family, love for loyalty, love for yourself or love for money. This isn’t your regular love story. It’s heartbreak and passion. It’s anger and empathy. Violence and strategy. It pertains to more than one person, and a decision, right or wrong, could cause a domino effect and affect everyone’s lives.
From the very beginning of this series, my heart has never swayed from who I wanted to come out on top. If you are familiar with the series, you’ll know what I mean. #TeamBrax from day one, always having a soft spot for the underdog. I’m not a traitorous cow like the rest of the flip floppers who are switching teams. It’s all about the bigger picture. And from the moment I saw Brax, I knew he was sorely unappreciated. I despise the thought of a sandwich of any kind and while I am overly frustrated with Leia, as a person and a woman, she needs to sort herself out. The biggest part that I loved was each character’s journey of self-discovery. The characters have grown so much, physically and mentally and yet the focal issue still remains somewhat the same. It is for this reason that I was mainly frustrated. Everything else seemed to have changed as time went on, but it always came back to the same thing and no decision had been made.
A warning to all you prudish people who cringe at sexual chemistry or sex scenes, even if only on paper, you might want to get ready because this book is filled to the brim of sex. This book will destroy you, it’ll stroke and please you until you can’t take no more. It’s violent, dirty, sexy and lethal in its own right.
I was also unprepared for the amount of heat this book had and pleasantly surprised. Every time this author writes a new story, I am pulled deeper into her vortex and I never want to leave. Her writing is nearly flawless, improving with every novel. Each chapter as surprising as the last; which is something I love. I loved that it wasn’t predictable, however, in some instances (not many) I found the writing sporadic and wooden. But as the story emerged, it flowed perfectly and picked up its pace. Despite the minor weaknesses, the authors’ voice flowed through the story and flowed effortlessly.
I am so consumed by life in Cape Hill. I never want to leave. I never want it to end. However, I know it will and my heart isn’t ready for my heart to hurt again. I don’t know why it’s the novels that end up hurting me the most that draw my attention the most. Nevertheless, another round of applause to Matthews for giving us the story we never knew we needed in our lives.
Always
Cape Hill, Book 3
By: C.L. Matthews
Narrated by: Jacob Morgan, Aaron Shedlock, Lacy Laurel
How do I even start a review for this book? After the first two book in this series, I thought I had a handle on how things would play out in Always. But CL Matthews has taken my easy way out and made life so much agonizing! I have to say, the complexity of this story is has me intrigued and wanting more. Leia is torn between men, though I think I know where she wants to be. Brax has become quite the character. He has matured in his thinking, and is beginning to take control of his life. Or is he? As a prospect, life is always uncertain, and he also has Brady and Leia on his mind. Then we have Sy, who is definitely one that I can’t get a handle on. He is older, wiser, comes just at the right time, but I just don’t know his mind yet. He is a tough one for me to figure out. And Leia, she is all tangled up. Brax is her best friend, and he is safe, but Sy holds her heart. Who should she be with? Add in the suspense and danger that surrounds all of them, and this book and series is fascinating. I can’t wait for Forevers, it can’t come soon enough!
The narration of this book is outstanding. The trio of Jacob Morgan, Aaron Shedlock, and Lacy Laurel makes the story come alive. Morgan becomes Brax, from the insecure boy to the confident man. He has a way with his voice that just is Brax. Shedlock uses that Spanish accent to woo us, as Sy. He is arrogant, and seductive and overly protective. Love it! And Laurel has an innocence in her voice as Leia, trying to figure out her life, be strong and confident and be true to herself. It’s a fantastic listen.

Always is the third book in this series. You must read the previous two books before reading this. I also recommend you don’t read reviews in case of spoilers if you haven’t read the previous books. Having said that by review will be vague.
I absolutely loved the previous books and couldn’t wait to read this. I wasn’t disappointed as the author gave me everything I wanted and so much more.
If you like taboo I highly recommend you binge read these books.
What I thought was the finale, is not and to be honest…I’m not sure I care what happens to any of these people anymore. Way too many different tropes thrown together, and while I love each and every one of them, Age-gap, taboo, MM, MMF, MC, Cheating…or whatever else is in here…I need the story to pick a direction and follow it through. Will I read Forevers if it ever comes out. Probably because now I’m invested.
Talk about TURN MY WORLD UPSIDE DOWN with this series….this entire set of characters! EVERY SINGLE time I got calmed down from one thing happening I was sent back spiraling again! The characters are droolworthy for sure. I’ve said with each book, from the moment I realized it could be a triangle…I’m TEAM SY!!! ALL THE FREAKING WAY! I’m not saying that no one else in this book is unworthy of Leia’s love.
Put it this way:
Sy is dangerous to her heart and sets her body on fire…
The other person is almost like a firefighter..the person to save her but I feel like he puts that fire out!
I’d much rather have the fire; and worry over my heart being broken than play it safe and never feel the fire!
My heart broke for Brax in this book, I feel he is so lost when it comes to who he is supposed to be in life that he tries to take the safer way out. My hope is for him to find what truly makes him the happiest and to find who he is meant to be.
Highly Recommend…do NOT read these books without your spouse/SO home! They are HOTTT!!!
Since at this time, this is the last one currently written….I’ll put this out there! I started this series very hesitant because of my own personal comfort with certain aspects of this series! I crossed that line because I enjoy testing my limits to see if what I assume about myself, my comfort level and interests are truly still the case or if I’ve changed along the way.
These books are definitely taboo….quite possibly the most taboo I’ve ever read. To know that I read and surpassed my limitations but came out on the other side loving this series, these characters and everything this author wants to send my way!
My goodness. I can’t even right now. Leia and Brax.
C.L. Mathews never ceases to amaze me. Just when I think I have it all figured out. She leaves me frustrated, mind- blown, biting my finger nails, wanting to throat punch somebody, sitting on the edge of my seat…. Not able to put her books down.
I love how the characters in this book become so entwine that you don’t know which way is up or down. The suspense, the angst, the emotions. C.L. Mathews doesn’t disappoint. I can’t wait to read more by this author
Always is book three in the Cape Hill series. This series is not a series of standalones and must be read in order.
Always picks up right where Lasts ended. We first see the repercussions of book two play out for Sy, Leila, and Brax. Nothing is as it seems, and everyone has secrets to hide.
I have always been #TeamSy, and the depth of emotion I knew he could feel finally came through in this book. However, I was disappointed that he still could only admit it to himself. Had he been able to share with Leia, her eyes would have been opened and I believe she would have been able to forgive Sy anything.
Brax was a difficult character for me to like in this book. We are repeatedly told how much he loves Leia and how she is everything to him, but his actions speak loudly and clearly something completely different, so he was a challenge for me.
While I am captivated by this unique triangle, the chapters floating between past and present made the flow of the story somewhat disjointed, and could be jarring at times.
I am absolutely invested in this series, and I am so excited to see the resolution of this triangle in Forevers!
I loved this continuation of the series. These are great, taboo reads! I would highly recommend this whole series.

Sy, Leia and Brax. Three souls entangled together in the most forbidden of ways. When the painful memories of the past come to light, can they find a way to help each other? Or are they doomed to suffer?
I am so elated that this book exists. It was amazing in the best of ways and I hadn’t expected even 1% of it. This book hit me harder than the previous ones and I remember I actually cried at one point because my heart was hurting.
Sy, Leia and Brax’s lives are too intertwined. I need them to live a happy and peaceful life because if anyone deserves it, it’s them.
C.L. Matthews never fails to surprise me. She is a poet who knows how to incite fifteen different emotions in you. AT ONCE. I cannot wait for what else she has in store for us. It’s going to be an epic and emotional ride.
Darn it! Once again I was slated right open. So many feeling while going further on the journey of Leia, Brax and Sy. I’m still totally team sandwich, but this book humanizes Sy more. Makes you understand him a little bit more. Brax is ever more hot and domineering. This book just gives you so much story, angst, love, hate, lust. I wish I had the words to describe it better!!!!
Wow I can’t believe how amazing this book was every book in this series just keeps getting better! If you haven’t read this series yet then your missing out. If there is a series to be read this year it is the Cape Hill Series by C.L. Matthews!

When the warnings tell you you are not ready for this I am not kidding you are not ready for this there are spoilers in this review… the Dynamics between Lia Sy and Braxt are just as steamy as the other sex but in this volume Leah and Braxton give it their off because they know they’re perfect together but their hearts tell them something else ! Will Brax risk it all for Brady? Will Leah choose between Brax or will she give into Sy? This book will keep you kb your edge!
This book was absolutely amazing. The dynamic and drama between everyone get even more intese and leaves you wondering who is she going to choose what’s going to happen next? I highly recommend this book
I love the emotional twists and turns that CL Matthews put readers through with this series!!! It makes you want to read every single book until the very end!!!! Part of me wishes she never ends this series, but then the other part NEEDS to know how it will end!!!!

OH.MY.GOSH! My heart….its bleeding everywhere! Wow! Just when I think this story cannot get more intense another log is thrown onto the fire! Seriously! This book had me more on edge than Firsts and Lasts combined! My loyalty and my support, kept getting pushed and pulled. I am SO happy that my Braxy got to shine in this book and that we learned so much more about him and his demons, and the sinful man he is becoming. I am going back and forth in my head trying to understand everyone’s point of view and their struggles, but dang it is hard! Leia doesn’t love Brax the way he needs to be loved, but shes just so scared that Sy wont give her the love she needs so shes keeping Brax invested and on the hook. Not cool! They have such a history and Brax feels obligated, responsible and that he owes it to her to be with her, all the while struggling with his own heartaches in the process and pushing aside his own happiness. They are trying so hard to love each other that they are actually hurting each other. Such an antagonizing read in all the best ways! I cannot WAIT for Forevers! I never want this to end!!
Leia is in love with two men, her best friend and her stepfather. Leia has to decide which man to be with but who will she choose? Will it be the right decision?
The dynamics between the characters are changing. Leia… I love the girl but sometimes I want to give her a good shake. Sy… He is my man through and through. He exudes everything sexual. The man knows what he wants. Brax… He ain’t a boy no more. I wanted him to remain in the corner and have Sy play the lead role. But that wasn’t the case. Each character played a major role on what was happening within the story. The emotional changes… The sexual heat… It was all there. And laid out beautifully.
