ALTERED TO DEATH; A Faith Hunter Scrap This Mystery by Christina Freeburn is the 6th in the series, but can be read as a stand-alone. Faith tried to solve the mystery surrounding the town’s founding family. Now there’s a bigger mystery to wrap up. Cute series that cozy fans will love.
“Altered to Death” earns 5/5 Books of Memories, Secrets, and…Murder?
I am new to Christina Freeburn’s Faith Hunter Scrap This Mystery series and eager to join in on all the rave reviews with book six, “Altered to Death.” I had a bit of a newbie handicap, but after reading a few of the synopses and reviews for the previous books, I was set! I learned that after a disaster (I’ll find out about that soon), Faith Hunter had resigned from her JAG specialist career and returned to her West Virginia home to help her grandmother with her scrapbooking shop, Scrap This, and finds herself piecing together clues in several interesting murder investigations (I’m eager to read about those adventures, too). So, needless to say, this ‘newbie’ is prepared and excited.
In this well-written, engaging sixth book, I leapt forward to find Faith Hunter is set to get married, but in between planning her wedding and managing the shop, she has been commissioned to create a scrapbook about the history of the town of Eden which is turning out to be a much more time-consuming task than originally thought. But this all leads her to a frantic widow, a skeleton key, and an attic full of photos and personal papers. From there Christina weaves a very intriguing tale with lots of clues, secrets, and connections: a mystery surrounding the unexplained disappearance ninety-five years ago of the Evertons, a widow’s fear her husband’s heart attack was murder, a missing Everton diary, a previously unknown Everton relative, and the discovery of a skeleton. Wow! A great story with very entertaining characters…I loved it!
I really enjoyed this mystery. Faith and her grandmas are fun as are the other characters. I read the first book in this series quite a while ago, so I had forgotten who was who. This makes me want to the others in the series. This one had a few twists in it so I didn’t guess the murderer until the big reveal. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a fun escape.
I received this book from NetGalley for my review of this book.
Altered to Death (A Faith Hunter Scrap This Mystery Book 6) by author Christina Freeburn. (Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book)
In this cozy mystery we join Faith in the town of Eden as she scrambles to uncover and scrap together clues of the founding family who suddenly left in the middle of the night one hundred years ago! As Faith searched through the old mansion looking for any clues to lead her to answers about the most prestigious and mysterious family, she discovers bones!
Talk about multi-tasking! This is not a perfect time for delving deep into the towns history, but she has been commissioned to created a scrapbook featuring the family who disappeared and the history of the old mansion. Not only is Faith’s wedding day approaching, but she runs a scrapbooking business with the help of family members who sometime add to the chaos of her life. She is also trying to learn the basics of the PI trade with the help of her fiancé’s brother, who she works for part-time. Her sleuthing seems to get her into the most unfortunate situations as she is learning.
In this mystery Faith will experience the excitement of a storage unit auction, getting shut in the trunk of her big car, being wrapped like a mummy in a drop cloth, and getting stuck in the roots of a tree as she is crawling through the tunnel under the old mansion. And the most horrible thing??? Ted saw her and had to rescue her from the roots and dirt of the tunnel, oh my!
I can’t believe she can not parallel park her car! 🙂 🙂
