To hell and back . . .Though he has vampire, demon, and Viking blood rushing through his veins, Ivar Kjeidsen’s soul-crushing trip to hell broke him in ways he can barely fathom. One vow keeps the deadly immortal standing: To rescue the vampire brother who had sacrificed freedom for him. To do that, Ivar needs the help of a brilliant physicist with wary brown eyes, fierce brilliance, and skin … brilliance, and skin that’s way too soft.
Dr. Promise Williams understands the underpinnings of the universe but has never figured out the human beings inhabiting it. Her function is to think—and not feel—until she’s touched by a vampire who’s nowhere near human. The primal hunger in his eyes awakens feelings in her that defy calculation. As she shows him the way to step between worlds, he brands her with a pleasure that could last more than a lifetime . . .

Even with vampire, demon and Viking blood rushing through his veins, Ivar Kjeidsen’s soul crushing trip to hell broke him in ways he can barely fathom. Only the vow to rescue the vampire brother who sacrificed freedom for him keeps the deadly immortal standing, but in order to achieve that vow, he needs the help of the brilliant Dr. Promise Williams who understands the underpinnings of the universe but has never figured out the human beings inhabiting it.
This ‘Dark Protector’ romance is a stimulating, emotional, rocking and explosive read! Ivar and Promise are two wonderfully strong characters that stand out and obviously belong together and the romance between is sweet and full of feeling that warms readers’ hearts even as it confuses Promise’s. This hero and heroine is so very different but it is truly remarkable how much Ivar understands her and really and truly tries to make her comfortable with dominating alpha ways and he is oh so smexy!
The plot is fast paced and takes readers on truly fantastical and exhilarating journey through an emotionally gripping, thrillingly dangerous journey to rescue a friend. The rescue itself poses lots of danger for the rescuer but it also poses danger for all worlds which keeps the readers holding their breath in anticipation and excitement throughout this riveting and thrilling read, which might become a problem since readers can’t put the book down once they start reading it.
I can’t get enough of these hybrids!! I’m constantly wooed and charmed and swooning with their stories. I was practically salivating for Ivar’s story after his arduous trip to see Quade, wanting to know how this sweet soul would end up, and Rebecca Zanetti DID NOT disappoint. Welcome to my harem, big boy!
Ivar is desperate to get back to Quade, to relieve him of his duty – keeping Ulric in. But to get there, he needs the help of a talented physicist to plot his way. That’s where Promise comes in. She’s at the top of her field and just who they’re looking for. Unfortunately, they’re not the only ones after her. There’s more talk of bubble worlds and the consequences when a bubble pops. What will happen to Quade? And am I the only one shipping him with the new hybrid introduced? With a lot of maneuvering, battle scenes, and a trip into love, this story was as stellar as I wanted it to be.
I loved the way that Ivar and Promise met. It was unique, to say the least. Their relationship was slow building, but once it picked up speed, it was flaming hot. Their connection went beyond the physical and I loved seeing these two intellectuals meet their match. I’m further intrigued by the side stories, especially with what’s happening with Hope and Drake, and I wonder when I’ll finally see the big picture. Also, I’d really like to adopt Paxton! The finale seems so far away, not that I’m complaining… I’m enjoying the heck out of this journey.
I am like most people and in love with Rebecca Zanetti Dark Protector Series. I have read them all, from book 1 to now 🙂 This has the prerequisite alpha male, and the strong enhanced human. That being said each book is about the individuals. Ivar had it rough, being thrown into hell and back, he no longer has feelings. To me that makes total sense as to why he is drawn to Promise, a logical, by the numbers, theories allowed, persona. Even though I personally hate math I laughed with delight as Promise’s brain ran on a tangent trying to piece everything together. I could feel Ivars heart swell and start to lighten as he watched Promise think things through. The steam was sizzling, more than I need, not a fan of erotic, but I could skim those. There is humor, romance, suspense and family. Yes, the Protectors are indeed a family, one I am happy to be a part of, even if its only via reading. Thank you Rebecca Zanetti, Kingston Lyrcial Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this arc. All thoughts an opinions are my own and were unsolicited.
I love the Dark Protectors series, and Alpha’s Promise did not let me down.
Ivar is a hybrid vampire/demon with Viking blood. He has always been the planner. In the last book he was thrown into a hell dimension and has returned broken in body and spirit. His goal is to return to the hell world to rescue his vampire brother who has been in that hell world for a long time.
Dr. Promise Williams is a brilliant physicist and mathematician. Her studies may be the thing needed to get back to that hell dimension and figure out how to solve the problems of the bubble worlds created thousands of years ago that now seem to be collapsing.
Promise was raised to focus totally on science, so when she is thrown into the world of the Realm, with demons, vampires, and fae, her world is turned upside down. Watching Ivar and Promise start to move out of their comfort zones and into a relationship was fun; I’m looking forward to more of these two. Rebecca Zanetti has amazingly intelligent, independent women that she pairs with these large alpha males.
WOW!!! I am not sure how it is possible but I feel like this series just keeps on getting better and better the deeper and deeper into this world and overall story line that RZ takes us. There is so much going on and it truly is an incredible story and world especially if you are able to follow all the little nuances of the individual races as well as the meaning and mission of the Seven. I think RZ gives us wonderful backstory throughout so it makes it easy to follow and understand. In each book, one new couple is the focus amidst the incredible plot lines. This time it is that big sexy Viking, Ivar, and the unbelievably intelligent and equally beautiful physicist, Promise. Promise is also one of the Enhanced, although she did not really know that until she meets Ivar and his brothers and their mates and learns about all this otherwordly stuff she is totally not used to. Math is her jam and it’s so cool how helpful that becomes to all of them. Ivan and Promise have chemistry that defies all reason and they are so explosive together! I love all of their interactions from conversations to sexy times! I love how their very analytical transaction turns into a whole heap of feelings. I also love how we get all of the other couples involved in every story because they are all working towards a common goal.
I enjoyed this story so much and I can’t wait for more.
I received an early copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley.
Gawd, I love the Dark Protectors world! I swear, I just can’t get enough of these characters and I never will.
I love a nerdy heroine and Promise was nerdy without lacking common sense. Everything about her revolved around mathematical problems.
”Oh Ivar,” she murmured. Most women made that sound at being given diamonds. Or property. Not her. No. Markers and whiteboards made joy roll off her like heat.”
She thinks things through instead of allowing emotions to ruler her. When she addresses mating Ivar with an analytical mind, she doesn’t realize that there is no logic when mating a demon-vampire. I loved watching her grow from an emotionally stunted woman into a women who could take things on simple faith.
While Ivar appears to be all brawn and muscle, he is able to hold his own with Promise’s intelligence. He was fiercely loyal which caused him an extreme amount of guilt over leaving one of his brothers behind on a planet that is quickly deteriorating. He hasn’t felt anything since his failed trip, but with Promise’s presence in his life, he’s suddenly feeling everything. And as all heroes in this series, his driving force is to protect the heroine and not only did he do that, he also checked all my other alpha hero boxes.
Ivar meeting the man who has wanted to date Promise:
”Do you always barge in?”
Mark pulled his hand free, and Ivar let him. “Promise and I go way back.”
Pinpricks danced along Promise’s spine. What was happening? Tension filtered through the room, and she pondered the puzzle, finally reaching a conclusion. They were posturing? Over her? She leaned back against the crammed bookshelf to watch. This was new.
Ivar smiled, and the sight was a threat. “Well, Missy and I are enjoying the present.”
Red flushed through Mark’s face. “Missy?”
Ivar lifted a shoulder. “Nickname. Just mine. You can’t use it.”
This couple were so cute together! She was often in her head as she worked through problems and he found it to be arousing. Instead of being frightened that he was a hybrid, she was fascinated. They were perfect for each other! And oh my gosh! They actually have a rational discussion regarding the merits of having sex or not! It was fun and, on a cerebral level, sexy as well as original.
In true Rebecca Zanetti fashion, this has a ton of action, amazing secondary characters that feel like family, twists, and plenty of steam. This couple’s mating was intense! This is not a cliffhanger, we definitely get a happy ever after, but the overlapping storyline continues with the next book. And I simply cannot wait!!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and Kensington Books. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is Book 10 in the Dark Protector’s series. This can be read as a stand-alone book but I highly recommend you reading them all before you read this one just so you will understand everything that is happening. Dr. Promise Williams is a brilliant physicist who doesn’t really understand what’s going on around her. She was raised in a home life that didn’t teach her about emotions so now she’s having to learn about feelings. Ivar has been to hell and back. And he’s going back to rescue his vampire brother. One way or another! There’s a lot going on in this book and you will be on the edge of your seat. I can’t wait to read the next book in the continuing story line. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book that I received from Netgalley.
ALPHA’S PROMISE is the 10th book in the series but it’s the third book in this new story arc.
I really loved the story. I loved the action and the urgency of the storyline as Ivar and the rest of the Seven fight to keep a dangerous enemy imprisoned and trying to save a brother-in-arms from a hell realm. And who doesn’t love a half-demon, half-vampire Viking? Check, check and check!
What tripped me up was Promise. I felt she was stoic, emotionless and robotic. Yes, she’s a physicist and a very matter-of-fact type person but I couldn’t relate to her. I didn’t feel any chemistry between her and Ivar until over half way into the book. The story was great, but I just couldn’t get there with Promise.
The secondary characters are what made the book for me! I always love seeing previous characters again! The action is heating up and I cannot wait to find out what happens next!
***I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of the book provided by the publisher via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affects or influences my thoughts and feelings about the story***
Yet another fantastically written book by Rebecca Zanetti! I truly don’t know how she is able to get her readers more excited for each book. Alpha’s Promise was a phenomenal book and I’m dying to read the next book in the series. Even though I want to know what happens next I really don’t want the series to ever end!! This series just keeps getting better and better with each book and I love how every book connects yet is different and you can really hear the different character’s voices throughout each book. I’ve read series where the characters start sounding the same in my head and I can’t tell them apart and this is definitely NOT the case with this author’s writing.
This book is the story of Promise and Ivar. At first glance the two definitely don’t appear to be the ‘typical’ couple, however, they make the perfect match (in my opinion anyway). Promise is a mathematical genius that thinks logically and has troubles with personal relationships. Ivar basically lost his humanity while he was stuck in many hell dimensions and is struggling to connect with people. I felt that the two of them completely compliment each other and I really enjoyed ‘watching’ their relationship develop. I liked how Promise kept approaching everything in their relationship ‘logically’ and Ivar basically broke those barriers down and they both ended embracing the emotional connection they developed. I LOVED Alpha’s Promise and think it is a great book that added important information to the series while developing a solid relationship between Ivar and Promise. There were so many parts to this book that makes the reader fall in love all over with the series!!
The Dark Protectors series is a great series and I am very excited to read the next book in the series. I love all of the characters (it’s tough to even pick a ‘favorite’ with all of the different relationships in the series). I think Rebecca Zanetti is a gifted writer and I am thoroughly enjoying this journey. I can’t wait to see what will come next!

4.5stars
In Alphas promise, another of seven finds love. In this book, Viking Ivar finds love in dr.Promise. I liked this interesting unique love story. All the scientific mambojambo that is in this book got me thinking that author had to make a mini degree from the subject. She had succeed to write amazing story with amazing character both Promise and Ivar are interesting and likable. It is great to see how Promises mind works and how she realized that love is real between her and Ivar and it’s not just chemistry and biology between them. I loved that the story stays unpredictable and to see how it develops. SO I cannot wait too read another book from the series.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly
Alpha’s Promise is the tenth book in the Dark Protector series and can be read as a stand-alone but I would recommend starting from the beginning since the plot line continues from book to book.
Ivar feels guilt for leaving his brother-in-arms Quade in a hellish dimension. He made a promise to return and he plans on keeping it. But how?
Enter Dr Promise Williams, a physics professor.
Ivar hopes that Promise will be able to help him return and save Quade. What he doesn’t expect is the hunger, attraction and pull he feels toward her. Both lonely and hurting these two turn to each other for solace and love, even though they don’t know it yet.
Do Promise and Ivar stand a chance when he must ultimately leave?
I love Rebecca Zanetti’s Dark Protectors world but, this one fell a little of the mark for me. I felt a disconnect between the main characters. I didn’t truly believe in them as a couple. Throughout the book, that did not change. Although it was cute and a little funny in the beginning, how they approached sex and each other so clinically, I found the overall result made me feel there was a lack of passion and love in their relationship
The story itself was spot on with action and intrigue. I enjoy and am captivated by this world and cannot wait for future books and for so many things to happen! I need Quade’s book ASAP!
I received an ARC via NetGalley of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Zanetti is a newer author for me. I found her Deep Ops series a while back and have enjoyed it so I thought I would try her Dark Protector series as well so when I noticed this book pop up on NetGalley, I thought I would give it a try. However, I do not think I should have started my first book this late in the series. Though I enjoy Zanetti’s writing style and characters, I really felt lost with this book. There was so much back story continuing from the previous books in the series as well as a series expanding storyline with crossover characters from all the previous books I stayed confused and did not understand a lot of what was happening. I know I did like all the guys. Ivar, Ronan, Adaire and the others had a strong brotherly bond and their wit and banter were amusing and their interactions with their mates entertaining. I really liked Ivar in this story and felt bad for him with all his struggles. I am not really sure what I thought of Promise. She seemed too robotic, detached, clinical and unemotional and I was just not able to relate to her character. I know it was mainly because of her upbringing but it just felt a little too over the top and all the jargon with the constant mathematical and scientific terminology and descriptions thrown in really took away from the story for me. It felt like a constant information dump and I struggled to keep up with it all. Though I struggled with this book on different levels, I do not think it fair to give it a bad rating for what are mostly my issues (I should have started with the previous stories first); however, with that aside I did still have a problem with Promise and other things related so I feel like a medium rating would be fair overall. I will also say that even though I was confused, this book has me curious enough to go back and try the others in the series and hopefully this book will be a better hit the second time around.
*I received an advanced copy from the publisher, via NetGalley, and I am providing my honest review.
Faith, Hope, and now Promise…I’m starting to think the mothers of these enhanced females had mental, or maybe emotional, issues:-)
Ivar is finally healing from his rescue from a bubble world working to keep the vampire races mortal enemy contained. His only goal now, his only focus, is on saving Quade, his brother still trapped in his own bubble world, the sole vampire keeping the prison active. But then Promise happens. Promise is not the most endearing character, intentionally in light of her background and scientific focus on life. She struggles to connect with others, but is immersed in helping Ivar reach Quade and ultimately develops relationships with key females in the group, those whose focus is also on scientific discovery and helping the race. Do they succeed? Are they able to overcome the challenges inherent to a vampire and human newly aware of their existence? And what will happen when Ivar succeeds at saving Quade? You’ll have to read the book to find out:-)
Two other “couples” are highlighted throughout the book and I cannot wait to see how both relationships evolve and resolve! Adare and Grace must find the happiness Ivar and Promise have, and the newest romantic tangle is yet to come for Quade and the new mystery girl. Two avenues book 11 can take, but which will Ms. Zanetti lead us down?
I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. I want to thank Lyrical Press, Rebecca Zanetti, and Goodreads for this kindle e-book version. Here is my honest review.
While this book is the tenth in the series, it worked for me as a stand alone novel. It has a little bit of everything. It is an action and adventure, paranormal romance and romantic suspense story all in one. It includes demons, vampires, steamy romance scenes, hybrids, fae, a brilliant physicist, social ineptness, humor, Kurjan enemies, other dimensions, murder, kidnappings, brotherhood, vows, the expected alpha males, and so much more.
The plot was engrossing, fast-paced, action-packed, and entertaining. The characters gained more depth as the story progressed. The world-building was intriguing and very visual. The ending was satisfying and intense. I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys this genre.
Fall in love with the latest Dark Protector story from Rebecca Zanetti, Alpha’s Promise! Its an intensely satisfying, exhilarating, twisty read with SCORCHING HOT romance, an epic plot that is constantly loaded with surprises and twists you don’t expect along with a hero who is wildly intense and 100% alpha! And just to reassure you, the heroine is no slouch either. She is super SUPER smart and brilliant and kind and readers will no doubt love her too.
I fell head over heels for this newest book by Miss Zanetti. I love the dark wildness that these immortals have. They are irresistible and the way these worlds are changing within the story is incredible and so bold and just made my heart pound. Promise and Ivar are so unique together but hold just as much promise and passion as I have come to expect from this series and vampires. I loved how this book was written. It was evenly paced and exciting as well as sexy as sin and electrifying. I am crazy excited already for the next one and urge readers, if they haven’t caught up on this series, do so NOW before the next one releases because it is very worth it I assure you.
Alpha’s Promise gets a EXHILARATING FIVE INTENSE STARS!
He always knew he’d keep his Promise
Ivar is the next Dark Protector to find his mate. After returning from the various Hell dimensions, Ivar has to relearn how to exist where he’s not fighting for survival constantly. A human physicist by the name of Promise is who they suspect the Kurjans will be after next. When Ivar jumps the gun by trying to kidnap her driving away from a colleague’s funeral, he wonders if she will ever trust him. But there seems to be more between them….could she be his mate?
Promise has always focused on the maths and equations to find solutions to problems. Now she’s been asked to think outside the box and she’s feeling a bit overwhelmed, especially when the man who tried to kidnap her shows up
Absolutely loved this story and have a story of my own to tell. When I applied for this advanced copy I had no idea it was book ten in the series….so I’ve spent the last month reading all of Rebecca’s books so I could catch up and I’m so happy I stumbled across this series, because it is fast becoming one of my favouritesI also want to thank Netgalley, the publisher and Rebecca for this advanced copy for which I leave my honest review. Looking forward to Quade’s story next
This series is awesome, and Alpha’s Promise was great! I hope this series never ends! Ivar swears he will never have a mate and will return to hell. When he meets, Dr Promise, he has a hard decision to make. I loved watching Ivar realize he had found THE ONE. I can’t wait for the next book!!
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read.
I don’t know how this author does it. With every book I read in this series the more hyped I get for the next one. I can’t wait to learn everything and yet I don’t want it to be over. This has been one of those rare series that just keeps getting better and more entertaining.
Alpha’s Promise is Ivar and Promise’s story. These two were such an odd couple and I loved them. Promise is a mathematical genius. She’s the typical smart person who struggles socially.
Ivan has lost most of the human side of himself when he was stuck in hell dimensions and also struggles socially. You would think these two would be a disaster together but they just worked.
I’m so excited about the new character that got introduced in this book. So many promising things to come and I can’t wait!
Series Review: Fun, fast paced PNR series. Great storyline, characters and suspense. Insta-love, mates for life, possessive Alphas and grotesque evil foes. There are Vampires, Shifters, witches, Demons and more. This is a continued storyline focusing on a different couple per book.
Another powerful story in the Dark Protectors series. I don’t know how Rebecca does it every time, but she packs so much story into her books. I adore the world she has created and the characters in it. This one is about Ivar Kjeidsen, a vampire/demon hybrid and one of the Seven. He’s been recovering from his injuries from his last trip through the hell dimensions but determined to go back and take his brother Quade’s place imprisoning the evil Kurjan Ulrik. The Seven need a human physicist to help them understand dimensions to keep Ulric imprisoned. As things stand the prison dimension they created for him is collapsing and may destroy the earth when it does.
Dr. Promise Williams is one of the world’s foremost physicists in black holes, supersymmetry and extra dimensions. For some reason physicists around the world as disappearing and Promise is in danger. Ivar becomes her protection detail. The Seven know physicists are being killed because the Kurjans want Ulrik back and are trying to stop the Seven. Suddenly Promise finds herself with a new understanding of the world she lives in and running for her life with Ivar. I really liked Promise. She has a super brain and gets totally mad scientist when puzzling with a math problem. Ivar find he has a mate and is determined to not bond with her as he’s determined to return to the hell realm and not return. The journey to discovering the answers to the world’s problems and their love story is full of adventure, passion and expanding understandings. I can’t wait for the next one as this series is addicting.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Alpha’s Promise was everything that I love about this series. Ivar, while broody and bossy, also held deep emotion and passion. Promise was smart and a little weird, but I loved it. Together they were perfect. I can’t wait for the next book.
