A wonderfully raw new novel by author Michelle Areaux that takes you on an emotional journey as you laugh, cry, and fall in love with the difficult side of being a teenager. “People leave. People lie. People let go. That is how my world works.”Sixteen-year-old Blair has never had consistency in her life. After a traumatic event that Blair’s parents wanted to remain a secret, they began moving her … secret, they began moving her around the country in hopes of starting a fresh, new life.
Only, Blair never stays anywhere long enough to start that new life she keeps expecting. Choosing to rebel instead of conforming to her parents wishes, Blair opts for neon colored hair and a sassy streak that pushes people away before they can hurt her first.
Hunter is your typical southern, small town boy. He’s a good guy with a great heart and a passion for helping others.
When Blair and Hunter meet, sparks begin to fly- but not the way either expected.
As Blair struggles to keep her dark secret hidden, Hunter tries at all costs to win over Blair’s heart and her trust.
Complete opposites come together in this novel that challenges the rules of society and who we are allowed to fall in love with. Sometimes, it takes the wrong person to join along for the ride of your life.

Blair is tired of moving, but her parents drag her from city to city in an effort to start over again and again, trying to make her become ‘normal’ and fit in with other teens. She misses her best friend Anna as the years have passed, but her parents don’t want her to call Anna, pressuring her instead to make new friends and forget the past. She wishes she could forget the bullying she’s suffered and the dark secret she hides, but it overshadows any hope she has for the future until she arrives in Shady Oaks, Kentucky, where her cute new neighbor Hunter encourages her to be open to enjoying the beauty of the rural environment. Her new classmates are kind and as she opens herself to friendship and even participates on the soccer team, she starts to believe that maybe she can have a normal life after all. When someone visiting from out of town recognizes her, however, everything falls apart and the past threatens to force her back behind the emotional walls that have protected her during each move. Will this time be any different from the rest, and will Hunter’s interest in her continue now that he knows what kind of person she really is?
This is a compelling story as the author keeps Blair’s secret from readers as well as Blair’s new friends, so we discover what she is truly enduring just as they do. It is easy to hope for the best for her, as she is likable and realistic, and her sad belief that she is “not really from anywhere” will speak to teen readers who have had the same experience of moving around a lot and not being able to connect with other kids long enough to create lasting friendships. The bullying she suffers through social media is a hot topic that almost all teens will understand, as it is sadly prevalent in the lives of children and teens today.
Readers who love Tamara Ireland Stone’s psychological dramas will really enjoy this story, which will leave them wondering as well as hoping for the best until the very end.
Follow this teenager as she goes through her teens and all the bumps and problems she encounters. See how she will deal with each one and if she will be better for it
