From the New York Times bestselling author of Her Last Flight comes another riveting novel of the Schuyler sisters—where the epic story of star-crossed lovers in pre-war Europe collides with a woman on the run in the swinging ’60s…In the autumn of 1966, Pepper Schuyler’s problems are in a class of their own. To find a way to take care of herself and the baby she carries—the result of an affair … baby she carries—the result of an affair with a married, legendary politician—she fixes up a beautiful and rare vintage Mercedes and sells it at auction.
But the car’s new owner, the glamorous Annabelle Dommerich, has her own secrets: a Nazi husband, a Jewish lover, a flight from Europe, and a love so profound it transcends decades. As the many threads of Annabelle’s life before the Second World War stretch out to entangle Pepper in 1960s America, and the father of her unborn baby tracks her down to a remote town in coastal Georgia, the two women must come together to face down the shadows of their complicated pasts.

I love this author’s work and devour every word of her gorgeous narrative. Highly recommend for readers who enjoy books in dual narrative and jumping back and forth between time periods. I love the way Ms. Williams constructs her stories bit by bit until all the pieces fit together. Love, love, love this book!
Beatriz Williams is the queen of writing lush, sweeping historical fiction that will grasp your heart, and Along the Infinite Sea is her one of her finest books.
Set in dual timelines, Along the Infinite Sea spans the tumultuous period in Europe during World War II when a young woman is torn between two men with dangerous pasts, as well as 1960s Palm Beach when a socialite becomes embroiled in a scandal with a married politician. Both women are united by a rare vintage Mercedes with a mysterious provenance that threads throughout the story.
Williams’s writing is evocative and stunning, instantly transporting readers to a different era. Her strength is the authenticity with which she writes her characters and her ability to create a stunning and immersive world. This book is the ultimate escape and the romance that underpins the story is quite simply breathtaking. If you’re looking for an epic and heart pounding historical fiction book that will keep you turning the pages as the plot twists and turns, this is the perfect book for you.
I thoroughly enjoyed the quirky characters in this book and the swing between two periods in time. The unexpected twist in the outcome kept me involved until the end.
I simply loved the European love story. The American love story had promise but was not complete. Lovely story.
Love the time line and the characters
5 stars . . . In spite of the objectionable elements (not a “clean read”), this otherwise old-fashioned, lush love story both swept me away & brought me back to the kinds of stories (minus language & steamy scenes) that helped me enjoy many summer hours in my younger days. This would have been perfect as one of the mini-series I watched in the 70’s & 80’s, as well. (Move over, Danielle Steele 🙂 Love the WWII storyline & how it resolves itself in the present day story. Such a talented storyteller!
It took me a little while to understand the characters but then became totally engaged in both women’s lives. It has amazing twists and turns and surprises. I didn’t realize when I ordered the book that it was the third in a three book series. I enjoyed this book so much that I went back and ordered the first two books in the series.
Accurate to the historical TIMES!!! Beautifully written!!!
All of the above!!!!!
This book is very unique. I could never imagined where it would go, I highly recommend it .
Great story with unforgettable characters. Will keep you happily engrossed
I loved it!!
Story moves too much between the past and current
One of my favourite reads – ever. I just wanted to climb into this book and become a part of the action and romance! The two timelines effortlessly weave and guide you through a story that you will want to see through to a happy ever after but never want to end. Next on my reading list: Tiny Little Thing.
Another page-turning novel from Beatrix Williams. Part historical fiction, part mystery — this one is as fun to read as another one by Williams, THE SECRET LIFE OF VIOLET GRANT.
Once again Williams draws from her fictional American family, the Schuylers, who appear in one form or another in many if not all of her books. This time it’s Pepper — beautiful (of course), single, very pregnant, estranged from her family, and dodging a prominent US Senator’s powerful family in the 1960s. (Gee, I wonder who he might be modeled on.) Through the sale of an obscure 1936 Mercedes roadster, Pepper comes into the orbit of prominent cellist and recent widow, Annabelle Dommerich, a woman with deep secrets of her own. Though a generation apart, Pepper and Annabelle each feels a strong connection with the other.
Williams repeats a writing device I recognize from her other books to build suspense, weaving back and forth between the two women’s stories, often leaving you hanging at a critical moment in one story while she continues the story of the other. It works because it prolongs the time before you learn how each woman wound up in her current situation. Those explanations involve Nazi persecution of Jews, passionate love affairs, unplanned pregnancies, clandestine political operatives, and even a couple of murders. There are lots of surprises and you won’t get your final questions answered until the very last page. A totally engrossing and fast read!
You cannot go wrong with a book by Beatriz Williams.
Loved this book. I’m hooked on her worlds.
