Have you recently investigated the plethora of books Skye has produced in the last year. Finally an author who writes faster (and better than many, I might add) than I can get to her books. She is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors!
Alone is amazing! In 66 pages, Skye establishes the challenges our cryo-gized heroes will face once they wake up, the deteriorating mental stability of our lovely, persistent heroine, and the harsh conditions of both Earth and Mars.
The preface stated that Alone is a remake of the Seven Swans, but so far a “prince” hasn’t been introduced. I am predicting an alien will come along at some point. The way Skye twisted that story to create this story is amazing! Have I said that before? Well, it is! I can’t say it enough
Louise is the last person left on Mars after a disease kills everyone else. It’s up to her to keep everything running and find a cure for the men asleep in space pods. This was such a good read. I really felt her crazy and felt myself going along with her
If you can get past the shortness of the serial, Alone is a riviting read. It’s well written, and the world building is phenomenal. I found myself fully invested in this character and her plot, and I wanted more…
Okay, this is pretty short, but it’s… amazing and a little haunting. I mean, we’re in her head the whole time at this point. She is the only real character, and yet I am fascinated. And the reality of being alone on a planet, and how your mind would react to such a thing for such length is really well handled.
Off to read the next one and find out what happens when people start waking up and are them real selves…
This was a great quick read, that made me really think about how I might react to being stranded completely alone like this. I love the world building that Skye MacKinnon has woven in this book. I wish that this were a full length book, I would like to have a fuller story of how everything happened.
This was a short story, but there was still a lot of world building.
Louise is the last human alive on a Mars colony. Everyone else died of a horrible virus and she is slowing going crazy from being alone for so long.
Six cryogenic pods arrive from Earth one day, but she is afraid to open them in case the virus is still active. That doesn’t stop her from talking to them though.
She only has so much help from Earth as they are having an apocalypse down there. Earth is set in the same world as “The Drowning” series, which is another great series by Ms. MacKinnon.
This story starts and finishes without any interaction between the heroine and her leading men. Instead we’re pulled into an intriguing world of pain, death, hope, and above all else the human need to survive. While I’m not in love with this book what am is intrigued. It makes you think and push yourself outside of your comfort zone and for those reason this book is a intriguing start to a world beyond what we know.
Sci-fi. Rh. 6 guys. Driven, semi-crazy heroine. Louise is the last surviver on a Mars scientific colony after a deadly virus. 6 pods arrive one day from Earth but being afraid the virus is still alive, she doesn’t open them. Louise must develope a vaccine first to save them. Short story series based on the fairy tale, The Six Swans. Very interesting retailing. Im excited to see where this goes.
Louise is the last human on Mars after an illness wiped out the rest of the settlement. However, 6 guys were enroute to Mars when the illness hit. They are in a cryogenic state and she needs to figure out a vaccine so that they don’t die when she “wakes” them. The story takes place over the course of 6 weeks. I love the dialogue between Louise and the Command guys back on Earth. Louise has a fantasy life with the guys! Mackinnon says we are going to see more of Louise and the guys story in the future and I can’t wait! I need to know what happens when they are all awake!
