In #1 New York Times bestseller Kelley Armstrong’s latest thriller, the hidden town of Rockton is about to face a challenge none of them saw coming: a baby. Every season in Rockton seems to bring a new challenge. At least that’s what Detective Casey Duncan has felt since she decided to call this place home. Between all the secretive residents, the sometimes-hostile settlers outside, and the … settlers outside, and the surrounding wilderness, there’s always something to worry about.
While on a much needed camping vacation with her boyfriend, Sheriff Eric Dalton, Casey hears a baby crying in the woods. The sound leads them to a tragic scene: a woman buried under the snow, murdered, a baby still alive in her arms.
A town that doesn’t let anyone in under the age of eighteen, Rockton must take care of its youngest resident yet while solving another murder and finding out where the baby came from – and whether she’s better off where she is.
#1 New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong again delivers an engaging, tense thriller set in perhaps the most interesting town in all of contemporary crime fiction.

The sixth in the Rockton series. It’s a fast paced read. Two wonderful main characters: Dalton, the Sheriff and Casey, the Detective.
Of course, there is also the strange town of Rockton. Rockton is in the Yukon and it’s a town few know about. You have to pay your way in, give up everything from your life before and commit to at least a year. The citizens come from down south and are a mixture of killers, white collar crimes, and who knows what else.
In the sixth book, Casey comes across a dead woman and a live baby, while on a camping trip with Dillion. This sends them off on the hunt for it’s family. A long the way, we have contact with the First Settlement, Second Settlement and the Hostiles. We also get to visit the citizens of Rockton and see what they have been up to.
Can’t wait for a chance to visit Rockton, again. Hoping it’s not to long a wait, before Armstrong comes out with the next book!
I really enjoy this series – ALOT!!! Because of the type of environment it is, Armstrong can go into sooo many directions with story and plot lines. She had me guessing until the end who the killer was. I like it when a story/author can do that.
I don’t know if this storyline is in the works but I would really love to know more about Jacob and read more interactions between him and the rest of the Rockton world characters.
This book was more about developing the characters and maybe less about the mystery (although there was something intriguing going on), but I thought story moved along well and was quite interesting. I’m really enjoying Casey and Eric’s relationship changing and growing.
We also get to learn more history about the settlements and the hostiles.
This is book five in the Rockton series, but the author does a great job of giving us backstory without bogging down the current story. But for full enjoyment of this series, I think you should all the books in the series.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor.
I really enjoyed the progression of the characters in this series. An intense and rewarding read.
Ugh, I love this whole series so much. Why can’t I have ALL THE BOOKS right now?!
This series is fantastic. Within just a matter of a few pages you are swept back to Rockton and all the crazy that happens there. This books continues the story of Eric and Casey and their life in the hidden city of Rockton. While on a camping break Casey finds a murdered woman and a live baby. The plot revolves on them tracking down the parents of the baby. While in most places that would be an easy task, Rockton is not one of them. It is winter in the Yukon, and no one gives anything for free.
I can not emphasize how much I enjoy reading these novels. The descriptions of the surroundings and people are so well done. The intrigue is fascinating. And, of course, Eric and Casey’s relationship continues to grow. I truly hope there are many more books in this series.
