Almost Perfect by Claudia Burgoa is a stand alone “frenemies” romance. I used the word frenemies because it’s what the author used to describe the relationship between these two. They had that white hot attraction that they couldn’t ignore but neither was in a good place to deal with emotionally. Neither of them quite knew what to do with it but they both knew one thing they did together very well.
If you are a fan of Claudia’s, then perhaps you’ve been introduced to these characters in previous books. Hannah Hades Bell is twenty nine years old and is the daughter of a famous rock star. Hannah herself was also in a famous band for a time. But now she’s living in San Francisco teaching and writing for a magazine she co-owns. Hannah has pain in her past that she has long buried. Pain that keeps her from trusting. Hannah is best friends with June Spearman who lives next door to her. Through June she met June’s brother, Alex.
Alex Spearman is a previous Olympic gold medalist, thrill seeker and athlete. But a terrible accident changed everything. Now Alex makes his living designing snow boards and surf boards. His business is very successful but he is still dealing with the changes life dealt him, including having the woman he thought he loved leaving him soon after the accident.
The minute Alex and Hannah met, the outcome was inevitable. They couldn’t ignore the chemistry between them. They would argue, sleep together, and walk away only to rinse and repeat. But somehow, they always ended up coming back together. None of their personal details were ever shared, it was kept impersonal. Hannah knew it was toxic and it needed to end. During the weekend of her friend June’s wedding, though, she saw a different side of Alex. A side that she could fall for. But she knows that it’s just a fantasy. When they go back to their real lives, everything will go back to the way it was. Only it didn’t. The past comes back to haunt Hannah and causes her to finally face up to everything she has buried over the years and finally put the pieces back together. The question is, who will she be after that? And what sort of part will Alex play in her life then?
This really was such a beautiful story of self discovery, for both Hannah and Alex. The connection was always there for them, but they just couldn’t see it until they were both ready. As the title says, Alex really was almost perfect. To me he may have been completely perfect! I loved him. I actually felt so bad for him. His own sister and also Hannah, even the rest of his family, had such little faith in him. He let them think what they wanted to think, none of it being true. I wanted them to see the man I saw, so full of love.
Even though this is a stand alone, Claudia’s dedicated readers already knew the Spearman family and even Hannah’s family. I have to admit that at times I was a little lost since I didn’t know any of the characters. So I tried to just concentrate on Hannah and Alex. Of one thing I was sure, though, and that was my love for Alex. I loved the ending, it was adorable. This was such a sweet story that I enjoyed so much. These two will live on in my heart for a long time.
Almost Perfect by Claudia Burgoa is the story of Alex and Hannah.
Alex was a start athlete but a accident cost him that along with a girlfriend who he had thought to marry. But now is a successful business man but still has the shadow of playboy attached to his character. Hannah is Alex’s sister friend was a rock star but is moving toward finding herself and her happiness. Not having a easy time of it but wanting to start a journey of finding herself and happiness again. Alex and Hannah are attracted to each other had a hot encounter but some misunderstanding have kept them apart. Alex is working to show that he isn’t his past and Hannah is working to find her future.
This is only the second book I have read by this author but this book has pushed me over the edge on wanting to make sure I read more of her books. I really enjoyed it.
My love affair with Claudia Burgoa began after reading “Once Upon A Holiday” so when an opportunity to read an ARC of this book presented itself I jumped at the chance. Let me just say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading Alex and Hannah’s love story even though I hadn’t read any of the other interconnected books. There are so many things to love about this book:
Sister’s best friend forbidden romance
Frenemies to lovers
A sexy as sin, misunderstood, sweet man who when he sets his mind on something or someone goes after it.
A beautiful albeit slightly damaged heroine who does not forgive or forget easily
A rocky journey towards their much deserved happily ever after.
A fantastic read by one of my (new) favorite authors. TBR this book and enjoy.
What a wonderful contemporary romance. It’s funny, charming, intriguing and inspiring all rolled up into one delicious romance. Kudos to Ms. Burgoa for an absolutely delightful romance that kept me smiling and my heart engaged throughout.
The characters are simply wonderful and I sure hope the author plans on giving us more books down the road with the Spearman siblings. They are a close bunch with varying personalities that I simply fell in love with. This book centers around Alex Spearman and his sister’s best friend, Hannah. This is a friends to lovers, 2nd chance story that pulls out all the stops. The storyline is a very heartfelt emotional self discovery journey that is simply outstanding. I Highly recommend grabbing it up, asap, you won’t regret it. 2 Thumbs Up and 5 Amazing Stars.
4 Stars
Hannah and Alex both have their reasons for being alone. When Alex’s sister, also Hannah’s best friend, asks him to do her a favor, these two are put on a path that will change them both in ways that cannot be undone. These frenemies have a whole lot of miscommunication going on between them thanks to pasts that have left them emotionally damaged and leery to let someone else in. It took an insanely long time for this couple to find their way to one another. At times it even got frustrating as the reader to see that, yet again, emotional baggage was going to get in the way of their HEA. Eventually, Hannah and Alex get the ending they deserve, but it definitely isn’t a short read to get there.

This is a well written story which is about Alex and Hannah who have undeniable chemistry between them. This story is emotional, fun, entertaining, humorous, sweet and a steamy enemies / friends / lover’s tale. I was intrigued and hooked throughout this riveting story and I highly recommend d this talented authors’ work for all readers.
If you’ve been keeping up with Claudia’s latest releases, she has done what I was really, really hoping for and combined this newer series featuring the fun Spearman family with some favorite characters from previous books of hers, some were a big, happy surprise! These older books are what drew me to her writing in the first place and I’m thrilled she has decided to cross over and go back for more within this ‘world while adding new characters . Very exciting.
Almost Perfect is a little bit ‘sisters best friend- forbidden romance’ with healthy dose of ‘lovers to frenemies’ that live next door to each other now…awkward!!! Since he was first mentioned, Alex Spearman, extreme sports celebrity, has had my attention and now he’s finally here, in all his glory with his own story to tell…how about that gorgeous, sexy cover??? Alex may have been known for his athletic skills but things have changed and my heart kind of broke for him in more ways than one. He has taken the lead as my favorite Spearman with his undeniable inner strength, mischievous ways and secret swooniness! His family thinks he’s the biggest playboy, he might have been at one point, but they don’t know the real Alex anymore. It seems like no one does…
I ‘met’ Hannah Bell-Hades long ago, in one of my favorite Claudia Burgoa books- My One Regret…who could forget her hot rocker dad, Kaden?? Not me, that’s for sure. She was a sweet young girl then with a tragic story of her own to overcome. Has she healed those scars all these years later?
Of course, Hannah and Alex’s sister and manager June are the best of friends but Ms. Spearman can’t seem to keep her nose out of either Alex or Hannah’s business. I wanted to zip her lips shut more than a few times! Oh Juniper, back off girl, some things can manage themselves!
Some really sweet, funny moments (those letters…hmmm) had me sighing and a few tears were shed on this angsty road to happiness that made me wonder…will it happen for these two or will one of them just blow it (looking at you???…aaa, not telling)!!!
A nail biter and a great story, loved the ending. I’m so excited to see where all of this goes in the future as the Sinners of Seattle hopefully get their own stories, cos crazy rockstars are always welcome in my book world! MAYBE Claudia will give us more glimpses into the lives of those special characters again! One can only hope!
An early copy of this new book was provided to me in exchange for my unbiased review.
Almost Perfect is a good feniemes to lovers story. I couldn’t wait to read this book, and see Alex and Hannah fall in love. Talk about sexual tension, their little spats were just foreplay, I swear. They made me laugh. I liked that we get the see their relationship grow from friends to lovers. But there’s so much more The Decker’s, The Spearman, and The Hades family, all make an appearance. I was so excited about that. I enjoyed every minute of this story, and the characters who captured my heart.
Alex & Hannah are perfectly imperfect.
Alex is everything I wanted him to be!! I think he totally dethroned Jason. Those Spearman brothers are so achingly delicious!
Alex has been put in his sister’s best friend’s path (by June herself). Hannah has a complicated past that has scarred her belief in love and relationships. She and Alex are combustible together. They have a secret fling (that no one actually knows about). Their have a second chance, frenemies vibe.
Alex has been the playboy superstar athlete. That’s what everyone thinks he is. Mind you he has had to change his future because of the accident that ended his athletic career. He was dumped by his then girlfriend. The woman he’d planned to propose to the night of the accident. But she was a spotlight seeking, gold digger.
He is surprisingly not bitter. He has a successful business. He’s raking in the dough. And he has realized he wants Hannah. Who keeps pushing him away.
Hannah, unfortunately, misinterpreted Alex’s reaction to their first encounter and so keeps him at a distance. She has been keeping everyone at a certain distance. She decides to go on an ‘eat, love, pray’ type journey.
While she is away, she and Alex communicate exclusively by snail mail letters. Letters he has to send to her business partner, Ethan, because she has refused to give Alex her phone number or email.
Through those letters, she learns more, but she isn’t completely willing to see the truth in Alex’s words. Alex supports her in her journey. He waits for her. Alex loves her.
On her return, things have changed. Not just her. Her guys (the Sinners of Saint) who she was in a band with. Alex supports her in trying to help them. Things with June. She also has lots of secrets. Secrets she slowly starts to reveal.
Alex has changed. He is trying to make those around him realize he isn’t who they think. Yes, he is flippant sometimes but that doesn’t make him any less than he is.
Full of feels, heat, angst, wit, and a beautiful love story. I love Claudia’s slow burn romance.
I received a review copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I was so looking forward to Almost Perfect. The last Spearman sibling, the ex-snowboarder Alex, sneaking around with his sister’s best friend? Sounds great to me.
And yet it was disappointing. Hannah had a lot of backstory and struggles to work through, and I can understand that. But there just wasn’t much to recommend her as a human being. I couldn’t understand what Alex saw in her. She was sarcastic, sometimes mean, and supremely closed off.
Alex was a much better character. He started off as a bit of a playboy in the early stages of their relationship, but he matured greatly. And actually, he was a saint for the ways he put up with both his family and Hannah. His family disappointed me. I’ve loved all the Spearman siblings in their respective books, but they let me down here with Alex. We had June getting far too nosey regarding Alex’s dating status and the rest of his family acting like his business is a hobby. Where’s the love and support, Spearmans?
The best part of Almost Perfect was the introduction to the rest of Hannah’s band, the Sinners of Seattle. I’ll be patiently waiting for their stories to unfold. Until then I may need to revisit Jack and Em’s story to bring back my love of the Spearmans.
Almost Perfect is Alex Spearman’s Story. He is the middle Spearman child. Alex is a former Olympic Snowboarder whose career was derailed after he was in a horrible car accident. His family worries about him and they take turns trying to keep him busy during competition season. His little sister, June, has him deliver stuff to her best friend, Hannah, and two have instant chemistry. Alex and Hannah hook up a few times over the years, but can’t seem to stop fighting with one another. Hannah is a college professor and former rock star. This girl has some serious issues she needs to get over before she can have a healthy relationship with anyone. Their love story wasn’t an easy one to read. Alex was pretty awesome. Patient, kind, and thoughtful. Hannah needed to find herself. She was harder for me to like. She wasn’t a bad person, but I had a hard time understanding her issues. I did enjoy their story and I ready to see which Spearman sibling is next.
What can I say about this book other than it’s Almost Perfect! It’s actually higher praise than you assume, perhaps hold your scoffing until you’ve read this whole review. Allow me to educate you…
No one is perfect. Not a single person in existence with he exception of Jesus is perfect. Since I have zero intention of going into a religious debate, just give me that point. No one is perfect but almost perfect is a real thing.
Spearmans have a way of getting under your skin and nestling into your mind as though settling down for a long winters nap. If they aren’t taking over your everyday life, they find a way to make sure you think about them in your everyday life. Alex is certainly no different from the other Spearmans in this regard. However, Alex finds his own way to settle in. Like a tick. Or so Hannah would have you believe.
Don’t let the “little girl” facade fool you Hannah Hades-Bell is not what she looks like. She may be lost but she isn’t a freshman. This fiery storm of a woman is Hades and Bell through and through. She’s tenacious and loyal. She inherited qualities that make her worth the effort but she has also picked some up from Mom (her stepmom). Its not all nature, a lit of her personality is the result of nurture.
If only Hannah, realized sooner that change isn’t set in stone. Its fluid and she is not the only person capable.
But frustrating characters and a love story the reader begs to be an ever after are trademarks for Claudia Burgoa, so in the end I KNOW you will be happy. It’s…Almost Perfect, the ending!
This has got to be my favorite Claudia Burgoa book this far!! Alex & Nana are such a surprising couple. One minute they are fighting like their lives depend on it, having lots of hate sex, and the next they are loving each other to the soul… she goes on a journey to find herself swearing to Alex they are over…. He continues writing to her until all hope is lost because she tells him she doesn’t want any more letters from him…. When she finally makes it home after being gone a year so much has changed…. Is Alex still the man she fell for, or does is he completely different, and with someone else? Read Almost Perfect by Claudia to find out!
Hannah and Alex’s love story was absolutely phenomenal!!!! Claudia Burgoa did a brilliant job!!!!! Five stars from word one to “the end”!!!!! Love it, love it, love it!!!! Kudos, Claudia!!!!!
Almost Perfect by Claudia Burgoa is a contemporary, enemies to friends to lovers, second chance, billionaire romance told in first person dual POV. It’s a complete standalone with some crossover characters from previous books.
I enjoyed Hannah and Alex’s story. Both were well-developed, multi-layered characters that were just as loveable as they were flawed. Their first meeting was electric but the timing was off and they both had issues to work through before they’d truly be ready for each other. I enjoyed reading their letters to each other, but not as much as I loved their interactions when they appeared together on the same page. This was a fun, emotional, sweet story. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
*** I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC. ***
4.5 Touching and Steamy Stars!
I was so excited to find out more about both Alex and Hannah who I first met in other books! Alexander Spearman is a famous athlete who’s career ended way to soon, and Hannah Hades-Bell is rockstar royalty looking for a life out of the spotlight. Hannah is best friends with Alex’s sister, June. The sparks between Alex and Hannah explode right from the start and they have a clandestine night of unbelievable passion. When it ends badly, it leaves them both confused and heartbroken. They can’t fight their attraction whenever they meet, but neither is capable of taking it past the physical. Hannah is blindsided one last time by her manipulative mother. She realizes her life is out of control, feeling more darkness than light. She decides to go on a journey to find herself and become the person she can be happy and proud of. Alexander is constantly fighting the image his family, Hannah, and the world sees in him. He loves building things, wants what’s best for his employees, and Hannah to be his forever person. He has a plan and now just needs Hannah to believe in him. I loved and totally swooned over Alex so much! He was so patient, kind and loving. I felt so bad for him when his family couldn’t see his growth and maturity. Hannah frustrated me at times when she ignored all the love and support offered from her family and band-mates for so long. But like Alex, she grew, changed, and matured. I loved the letters Alex and Hannah exchanged, helping them to see each other for who they truly were and not the facade believed by others. It was fun to catch up with their family members who I fell for in other books! This witty, touching, and steamy, frenemies to Lovers romance is a great start to Burgoas’ new Sinners Of Seattle series. I am so intrigued by this introduction to Tucker and the rest of the band. They are all close, loyal, fun, alluring, and a bit broken in their own way. I can’t wait to read more about the rest of the Sinners Of Seattle!
I love Claudia Burgoa’s books. The more I read, the more I fall in love with her storylines. The characters have the right amount of banter that accelerates to steamy encounters. Hannah is a small, feisty, intelligent, accomplished woman. She makes me think of a little Napoleon. She may be small, but don’t mess with her. Alex is a dreamy, athletic, talented, and creative man. Together they are an explodable combination. This story had me hooked from the first chapter. It was an intriguing, lovable, laughable, and charming story. It pulls at the heartstrings while tickling the funny bone. If you love a good frenemies romance with relatable characters then this is a must-read!
I was given a free copy in exchange for my honest review.
Claudia Burgos is my Go-To Author so when she releases a book, it’s a definite one click for me! Almost Perfect is her latest release and it has a mix of some old friends from her other books but is a perfect standalone if you haven’t read any or all of them.
Alexander Spearman and Hannah Hades-Bell have a complicated past. Hannah is a rock musician/writer/magazine mogul from a famous musical family and best friends with Alex’s younger sister. Alex was a World Class athlete who suffered a devastating accident and now runs a company that creates snowboards, surfboards, snow equipment and endorsements. He and Hannah have had a friends with benefits (and hate) relationship that both are too confused to label. We are given glimpses of the past in duel POV chapters that fill us in as we decipher these two complicated and damaged individuals. Both have been hurt and are vulnerable and terrified of being hurt again.
It takes a drastic measure by Hannah for Alex to realize what he wants and to realize he needs to make some changes. Throw in a puppy named Bruno with Draco the cat to establish “The kids” and things get pretty interesting. Alex goes all out and he is more than Almost Perfect in my eyes!
I loved this book! I really connected with both Alex and Hannah, even though I felt frustrated, mostly with Hannah. As the book progressed, I did understand where she was coming from most of the time. I just felt she was sometimes too hard on Alex. But all was clarified by the end and there was a great epilogue! Win! Win!
As I read Almost Perfect, I will admit I was a little lost as I was confused with some of the side characters. The way the book is written, it’s as if I should already know who they are as really, no background was given for them. I realized that while this is listed as a standalone, there are characters that make appearances that are from other books written by the author that play a part through the story. I would suggest probably reading the others beforehand to get the most out of the story.
With that said, I really liked this story. I love a good frenemies-to-lovers romance and this book did just that. I love that the characters are realistic and in some ways, relatable. I loved how some of the story was told through letters between Alex and Hannah and to see them grow. Hannah is smart and was once a rock star. Alex, an Olympic Gold medalist who thought he’d never walk again after an accident, stayed strong and determined to beat those odds. I have to give it to the cocky but hot as hell Alex for being so patient, understanding and so strong when it comes to Hannah because, let me tell you, I would have told him to run far away from her. I could not connect well with Hannah’s character because she just comes off so self-centered. Hannah has her struggles and I felt badly for her but the way she handled things and the excuses, she just annoyed me. I feel Alex is the one who made it possible for them to have their HEA.
There’s humor, drama, banter, it’s emotional and sweet. The title truly is fitting for this story.
*ARC provided for my honest review*
I enjoyed this story, I love Claudia’s books. The characters were great though they both have their demons to deal with!
Alex was injured in an auto accident, told he would never walk again. Well he worked his butt off and he’s walking again! But he’s still dealing with things in his life and his controlling sister/manager!
When Hannah & Alex are in the same room, between the sparks that fly due to their attraction, and the aggravation that stays between them, these two can be like oil and vinegar!
Read along as they discover new things about each other, and possibly grow closer! 4 stars for this one!
