This is a quirky frenemies to lovers romance with some witty banter, it’s about a couple embarking on a journey with some life changing moments, it’s about second chances and most importantly it’s about friendships.
Alex Spearman is a Playboy who athlete career ended way to soon, he is a man who knows what he wants and he is also used to getting what he wants but will Hannah Hades-Bell be the pushover he is used to…..
Hannah Hades-Bell a former rockstar looking to live her life out of the spotlight running from her past ends up back with her best friend June who happens to be Alex’s older sister.
An night of passion a while ago may have ended badly for Alex and Hannah but that doesn’t mean they aren’t still attracted each other it just means they need to get past the past for another chance at love ……
This is classed as a stand-alone but I think you would get so much more out of it if you have read the previous books because there are characters that play a big part in this story from previous books. I loved Alex and I grew to love Hannah as the story developed, a well written romance from this very talented author.
Alex and Hannah make for a complex relationship, whether Hannah wants to call it that or not. It’s a bit of a love/hate thing, and when the snark flies, it really soars. This one is a RomCom, but it’s also more than that. There’s plenty of emotion mixed in with the laughs. Both Alex and Hannah are a bit broken, and they both need to learn to trust, particularly Hannah. This couple has great chemistry, even when they hate each other, and the secondary characters add some extra fun to the story, including a couple of scene-stealers here and there. I love Hannah’s dad, and Draco the cat is a hoot. The story is fast-paced, engaging, and a wonderful combination of sweet, sexy, and emotional romance.
This emotional rollercoaster of these two frenemies will make you want to cry, laugh and throw your kindle all at the same time. A book that will stay with you long after the last word is read. The concept of family is oh so sweet and will definitely hit your heartstrings.
Claudia Burgoa continues to grow her characters into so much more!! These characters are so raw and real. You connection with them on such an intimate level and feel like you are one of them.
Alex and Hannah have been put together for a reason. Fate has intervened and refuses to let them go. Together, they learn how to be the best version of themselves they can. Apart, their backgrounds are so real and tough, they have to learn to rely on each other. Together, you will fall in love with all that is Alex and Hannah.
One of the many things I love about Ms. Burgoa’s story is the fresh take on a love story.
This story of Hannah and Alex. It is complicated and bumpy and rough around the edges. It’s spans years and just when you hope things are going their way another wrench gets thrown into the mix! I was cheering hard for Hannah and Alex to get their happily ever after.
You have to read this story slowly, you have to sometimes “read between the lines” to really see where the story is going.
Hannah is a broken soul. She has had an unconventional childhood and it reflects on her adult life. She is strong when she needs to be, almost too strong and too proud to ask for help or a soft place to fall.
Alex is just as broken, but his happens at the prime of his career. He doesn’t know what to make of Hannah when he first meets her and the chemistry between them is electric.
It was lovely to read about past characters, it was fun touching base to them. Don’t worry, it doesn’t detract from the story, it just adds more to the fans that have read her previous books. But for the first time reader, it’s not even a blip on the radar.
Well done Ms. Burgoa!! I cannot wait to see what you write next!
4* Golden Boy Stars
Alex and Hannah’s story was a rollercoaster of up’s and down’s, lovers one minute and then enemies the next.
Hannah, despite being 29 years old, is still struggling to come to terms with the cards that life has dealt her. She is flawed emotionally and has not fully dealt with the rejection of her biological mother. Because of this she puts everyone at arm’s length and her actions are quite selfish, despite the love and support of her friends and famous musical family. In parts of the story I disliked her because of this. On the other hand, gorgeous Alex Spearman was everything a woman could ask for. After a terrible accident left Olympic Medallist Snowboarder Alex unable to compete, he was determined to become someone better and not the playboy he was renowned for. When Alex crosses paths with Hannah again he is determined to explore the feelings he has with her after their first encounter ended in disaster. His patience with Hannah was saintly.
It was great to catch up with the rest of the family and especially gentle loving Sadie who will always have a special place in my heart.
This was an enjoyable low angst swoony romance. You are also always guaranteed a gorgeous cover from Claudia.
This story can be read as a stand-alone, but for those who have been reading Claudia’s books it is so much more than just Alex and Hannah’s story. Claudia creates complex characters with strengths and flaws, who really have to work to find themselves and work on their relationships. Plus, these are people with close family ties and strong friendships.
Hannah has had a very rough time, from childhood into early adulthood. This has created a woman who is intelligent (she is 29 and a professor) and talented (a rock star as a teenager), but flawed emotionally. Alex was the top snowboarder in the world, an Olympic gold medalist, until an accident leaves him so broken, he wasn’t even expected to be able to walk again. But with his strength and determination he is walking again.
What I liked: Alex’s corny pick up lines, the letters between Alex and Hannah, and Alex’s personal growth. What I didn’t like: Hannah seemed to take everything in the worst possible way and had a huge chip on her shoulder. She never seemed willing to talk things out with Alex, she just kept rejecting him.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion.
I was excited to hear that Hannah was going to have her own story. With that being said, this story has crossover characters from other books but is a complete standalone. I really liked Alex. He was often misunderstood, faced unbelievable circumstances and yet he went above and beyond for his family, employees and even Hannah. Hannah on the other hand, was more difficult to warm up to. She came across as a somewhat self absorbed. I understand she had her issues, but relationships with friends and family were one-sided. They all bend over backwards to help her yet she shows little interest and knowledge about what was happening in their lives. I also struggled with her for years not forgiving Alex over the incident that occurred between them just after he had a life altering event (and he repeatedly apologized to Hannah for this). The couple had many ups and downs. Alex’s determination was the key part in their happily ever after. He made up his mind what he wanted and fought for it time after time. I’m not sure how much more a guy could do to earn her trust. I really wanted Hannah to go all out for Alex for a change instead of it always being they other way around. He deserved it. Overall, I enjoyed the book.
Aww, the Spearman brothers. I’m not sure that I’m totally on board with the frenemies to lovers trope this one is billed as. It doesn’t quite fit that. Alex and Hannah are not friends per se. Nope, they are definitely nowhere near friends, yet they aren’t really enemies. They don’t really know each other that well. Hannah and Alex’s sister, June, are BFFs. June thinks she knows absolutely everything about Alex, but she is far from wrong. That is really the crux of the issues in this story.
Hannah and Alex hooked up a while ago, neither have been with anyone else since, yet they still consider one another players. Well, OK, Hannah knows Alex is a player. But, really? She’s getting all her information from his sister, June, and she doesn’t really have a clue about what Alex is up to, who he is seeing, or who he is “hooking” up with. Nope. She manages his business affairs and therefore THINKS she knows everything, but she is clueless. Plus, his family really doesn’t know him, either. They are all buying into the playboy lifestyle which is definitely NOT what Alex is into. He simply doesn’t correct them. He’s the middle child, he’s used to being misunderstood. Hannah has more than enough issues from her childhood and her first serious relationship to last a lifetime. She has scars. She has deep scars. She is almost incapable of seeing what’s right in front of her nose, especially where Alex is concerned.
This is book 4 in The Spearman Family series and it does not disappoint. There is a lot of growing that Alex and Hannah do throughout the book. There is a lot of self-discovery. I wouldn’t say this is a particularly deep book, but there is a little more to the story than just fluff. Parts of it were a little confusing, but that was probably just me. All in all, this is a good addition to the series.
Wow, this listen just blew me away. I loved how feisty Hannah is, and how confident Alex is. They were positively combustible in this enemies-to-lovers romance.
Claudia Burgoa wrote an amazing romance that is fully of witty banter, chemistry and a soul-deep connection. Alex has always been drawn to his sister’s best friend, Hannah, but Hannah has no interest in his antics. But once they truly get to know each other, she realizes that all of her preconceived notions of Alex may not be correct. Alex works HARD to earn Hannah’s friendship and her trust. This slow burn is so satisfying!
Joe Arden and CJ Bloom are two of the best narrators in the romance industry. They make you feel the emotions, whether it’s love, frustration, sadness, happiness. They really brought these characters to life.
Another tale from the Spearman clan. Hannah and Alex had a history but had gone their separate ways. Now they must deal with their feelings when they are brought together again. Hannah was determined to keep her best friend’s brother at arms’ length without much luck. She was intelligent, caring, and loyal. Alex was a bit broken but came to realize Hannah was a balm for his soul. The heat between them was definitely scorching, and I enjoyed their interactions, humorous, touching, and serious. I look forward to the next in the series.
I thoroughly enjoyed the narration by Joe Arden and CJ Bloom. Their characterizations of all the characters made the story that much more worth the listen.
I was gifted the audiobook, and this is my unsolicited review.
GREAT WORD BUILDING. The book was interesting in that it was longer than the usual. It was written with both POV as well as entries to her blog. He sure was patient with her during her time she had to more or less “find herself”. Good job
Love this author. Hate to see of of the books I had read end. Thoroughly enjoyed every book I have read.
4 Star Review of Almost Perfect by Claudia Y Burgoa
Audio review:
Alex Spearman is your typical hot, sexy, playboy, used to getting what and who he wants. When he sets his eyes on Hannah Hades-Bell, the only question is whether it’s for a one night stand or something more?
Almost Perfect is a frenemies to lovers story. I enjoy Ms. Burgoa’s style of writing the performances by Joe Arden and C J Bloom certainly brought the characters to life for me. They were easy to listen to and although this is not my favourite book from Ms.Burgoa it was it was well written and kept me invested.
There were times I was frustrated with both Alex and Hannah. I really liked Alex but had a harder time connecting with Hannah, not sure why to be honest, but there it is.
Initially they don’t really like each other but as the chemistry between Alex and Hannah increases, the tension escalates until neither can resist. The secondary characters were entertaining and I loved the sense of family throughout this book.
Alex is definitely swoon worthy, funny and easy to like whilst Hannah grew on me as the story progressed.
A story that was an emotional roller coaster to read at times but for Alex and Hannah they finally got their happily ever after.
Received in exchange for a honest review.
I love Alex. I love everything about him. I felt for him when it came to his sister, how some family treated him and Hannah. At the end I felt she was the one who should have been apologizing because he was always trying to prove himself and she never really trusted him. To me she let her past dictate how she saw situations and Alex in moments and compared him to her ex and that was wrong. So no I don’t blame him when he finally felt exhausted.
Alex was just a great guy. He had overcome so much and was a example of learning to live life. He gave appearances to keep his sister off his back. He was successful at a business he loved and began when he had a tragic turn in life. I was sad that he was always trying to prove himself to his family and that he felt they didn’t think he was good enough. He was good enough. He was strong, a fighter, kind, caring and sweet. When he first met Hannah he was in a bad place and made a mistake. She never forgave him and in a way that shaped her view and how she was toward him.
Hannah was going through a lot as well. She had so much pain an distrust in her past that she needed to deal with. She wasn’t a bad person in fact she was great I just didn’t like how she was towards Alex at times. She would provoke responses to prove to herself she should stay away. She would be rude and mean as well. She was guarding herself and not giving him a chance and that was what I didn’t like when it came to Hannah. Other than that, she was a great friend and needed to find herself and let go of past pain and distrust before she could move forward.
Paris to me was beautiful. Alex showed Hannah who he was. Showed her that he was a forever person and this scared her. She ran and we see her start her journey at this point because something happens to start this journey. She still was pushing Alex away but he was persistent and they began this beautiful friendship and love grew more abundant between them. They began these beautiful heartfelt letters where they get to know one another. Alex starts to see where he wants his life and that changes need to be made and he grows up more. He stands up for himself more and matures. Hannah starts to heal and learn to trust others. She sees that Alex isn’t what she thought he was and he helped her begin the healing process. When she comes back Alex is now determined to get her to see him as her forever person. He does some of the sweetest things. I thought his letters were heartfelt, heartwarming and had me melt. When he wrote about his accident and how he found his way from his dark place, I melted. His letters have you melt to goo. But when he wooed her and showed her there was more to him and her, I truly melted. He was so patient and sweet. They had such fun sweet times then. When her friends were in trouble, he was there with her every step of the way but this was also a downfall for them because we see that she didn’t completely trust and let go of her past. Alex did something to protect her in my eyes and she let old pains surface and things go south fast. I love what Alex did to show love (didn’t love his sister’s reaction to him because personally he was in the right), and how they come to be together.
The story is fun, sweet, sarcastic at the right times and adorable. You fall in love with Alex and Hannah. For me I fell more in love with Alex and saw him grow and mature more than Hannah. I loved seeing him being the one to help hannah and help her heal but also show her love and devotion. His words in his letters will have you melt and their story will bring out so many emotions. A great story from beginning to end that you will fall in love with as they fall in love and find their way to be with one another.
I enjoy Mrs. Burgoa’s books since her books always are around family, the ones we are born into and the ones that we make!
Alex and Hannah has a love/hate relationship so it is funny to watch how they interact with each other. Hannah was Alex’s sister’s neighbor and best friend so Alex is asked to check on Hannah every once it a while. Even though Hannah looks very young (she gets mistaken for a college freshman), she is actually a college professor. Alex was an Olympic medalist in skiing until an accident changed his course in life. Even though these 2 dislike each other, they somehow sorta become BWF and then it gets further from there. When a tragedy takes Hannah on a journey to find herself, Alex realizes that Hannah is the one for him but he doesn’t know where she has gone and her band family won’t tell him because she didn’t want him to know. But they write letters to each other and this is where they both grow as individuals and realizes what they really want from life and each other.
Alex takes the time that Hannah is away to reflect on his own life and he makes changes because he wants to be worthy of Hannah. When Hannah comes back after being gone a year, the 2 have to make some decisions about each other.
I was looking forward to Alex’s story. Especially since I’ve previously enjoyed the Spearman family.
I have mixed emotions about this one. Alex was incredible, he was stuck in a time of his life where he just lived to live.. didn’t really take anything serious. Not even his one night stand with Hannah which shattered her.
Hannah is a bit more to handle. There’s stuff going on behind the scenes of her past.. your kinda left in the dark for a good amount of time.
I could see this continuing into something more for the Spearman Family and also for Hannah’s band mates!
I give it 4,5* – almost perfect – emotional and tearjerker for me
What can I say? Full of angst, heartbreak, tears and uncertainty as to were the main characters are heading and how their story will end. But what else could I expect from Claudia Burgoa when writing about one of the Hades’ daughters? It had to be not easy, not straight forward and not very cheerful.
Again my heart was dragged through all the pain, ache, tears and several boxes of tissues. But in this case there’s the same outcome as with the other brilliant stories written by this author – the great ending worth every single painful situation. As perfectly as she can deliver heartache she can also put the broken pieces together even more skilfully.
This book will for sure stay on my mind for a long time.
Almost Perfect
Alex and Hannah
There was so much going on in this book keeping me engaged that I read it in one afternoon! Ms. Burgoa is a gifted writer! She makes it seem like you are living the story, and you want more, so much more, when it ends.
Received this ARC and am leaving an honest review.
It is a great book! I enjoyed it so much!
The writing is smooth and the author finds a lot of different ways to keep the story moving on.
I loved the main characters and the second characters make you wish you have a book for each of them (which some of them have so yey!)
*I voluntarily reviewed an advance complimentary copy of this book.*
Claudia has once again given me characters that I fall in love with and can’t help but fall into their world! This is Alex and Hannah’s story and yes it may be titled Almost Perfect but it is truly perfectly heartwarming, funny, emotional and a beautiful journey with these amazing characters. We also once again surrounded by the wonderful cast of characters that we have also come to love from Claudia’s wonderful imagination !
