Almost Had You is a full length, STANDALONE, Small Town, Navy SEAL Romance. CloverI’ve always had a knack for following the rules. As a southern mayor’s daughter, I carry my strait-laced reputation like an Academy Award. There was never a need to question my place under the sun. It glitters. It’s splendid. I am blessed. From the second Mercer Ballentine, war hero, Navy SEAL extraordinaire stepped … extraordinaire stepped off the airplane, my life has been nothing but one hijinks after another. Nothing will ever be the same. It’s a good thing I’m ready for a change, because that man has tilted my world upside down. He might brandish roguish cowboy charm and rippling abs, but those things are no match for the wiles of a true southern belle.I always get what I want and I don’t want to follow anybody’s rules for another second.
Mercer
Alabama. Home. A three-week furlough. Fighting a war that seems will never end is wearing me down and I’ve never needed a vacation more. My plans to unwind, drink myself numb, and catch up with my friends are thwarted by a taffeta covered pageant queen who is nothing like what she seems. My daddy is running against hers this election and the stakes have never been higher. I’m heading back to war.I don’t need attachments. I don’t need drama. I definitely don’t need to save this woman. Then again, I always want the things I don’t need, and you’ve never seen Clover Wellsley—there’s a madness to her beauty.
I need to make her mine.
If she’ll let me.

I really enjoyed Mercer and Clover’s story. It was a fast paced read but enjoyable. I liked how we got to see into Mercer’s work as a Navy Seal, I was also proud of Clover for standing up for herself and creating a life that was her own. Overall it was a sweet romance that I really enjoyed.
Good ol’ fashion Southern Charm, drama and a whole lotta sexy has taken over my life as I’m reading Almost Had You by Rachel Robinson! Clover and Mercer captured my attention from the first chapter and I could not put this book down! Filled with emotion, this book has it all! Family issues, military lives and a love story that you will simply love, Almost Had You will have you rooting for Clover and Mercer!
Almost had you… it was actually an almost feeling. I love the idea of Clover and Mercer small town romance… Mayor Daughter and Military man? Sound great..
This slow burn romance was cute and I adored Clover’s voice to follow her dream.
I thoroughly enjoy reading anything Rachel Robinson writes and this story is no different. I’m a sucker for an insta-love story if it’s done right and this ticked all the boxes for me. The only little niggle I have is it took me a while to get into but once I did then I couldn’t get enough. A really good read!
A swoony and steamy seal novel.
I have loved the other seal novels that this author has written and this one was absolutely no different. I enjoyed reading about how the characters grew and developed within themselves. The storyline was brilliant and kept me wanting more. The only thing I can fault is that it ended.
A sweet, cute romance story this newest release in the Harbour Point Seal Series did not disappoint. I love a good seal storyline and this brings Mercer and Clover journey to life. It had drama, humor and overall will keep you entertained. I loved Clover’s character, a typical southern gal with the will to break out and her chemistry with Mercer was entertaining to watch. I can’t wait for the other books in the series.
Almost Had You by Rachel Robinson
5 Stars
I really loved this!! I love the cover to the last word!
“I love you and I want you to be here when I get back. For me. Because you’re mine now and I will torch the earth to make my way back inside your arms.”
“If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right.”
Highly recommend!!
A rugged Navy SEAL who has seen it all and a Southern Bell with a mind of her own… They have very different lives, but maybe they’re exactly what the other one needs. Almost Had You it about Mercer and Clover, who have grown up in the same town and think they know each other… I’ve enjoyed their story very much.
Clover is a true Southern girl who does as her parents tell her, even though she’s a grown-up lady. However, that doesn’t stop her from having dreams of her own, dreams about her future. Mercer is oh so different from what her parents want for her, and Clover just can’t stay away from him. Mercer is a Navy Seal and back home for a short vacation. It is supposed to be relaxed and fun, but he soon realizes Clover is a lot more then just fun. Feelings are everywhere, and Clover and Mercer decide to give their love a try.
Clover and Mercer are great people; both work hard and try to make a difference in the world. Clover seems like a good, obedient woman, but there’s a lot more to her. I love that she makes her own plans and doesn’t give into her parents demands. Mercer is a great guy too, and he deserves a break from all the horror he has seen. Clover and Mercer know each other since childhood, and it’s fun to see them reconnect as adults. And getting to know each other, because you have ‘knowing’ and ‘knowing’. I love Clover and Mercer; they really are a great match.
Almost Had You is part of the ‘Harbour Point SEAL Series’ and technically a standalone story. It’s about Mercer and Clover of course, but also very much about the ongoing war against terrorism. The parts about the war are dark, but Mercer and Clover storyline is light and sweet (with some drama, otherwise it would be too sweet). I have enjoyed Almost Had You very much, I can’t wait for the other books in the series.
This is the 2nd book in this series, and is Clover and Mercer’s story. Clover had always toed the line as per what is expected from her by her parents. Mercer is a navy seal who is back in his hometown on leave. Is Mercer the answer Clover has been seeking in order to expand her horizons from the good girl persona? This is a well written story which is light-hearted, passionate, humorous, and is a steamy read with drama, emotion, and undeniable chemistry. I look forward to reading more form this gifted author, and recommend for all.
Mercer Ballentine is a man who is in need of a break. He is one that you want to go up to and say “thank you for your service”. I almost get the impression that he doesn’t like that much attention. Clover Wellsley wants to expand her horizons. Some of you may be able to identify with her when it comes to talking to parents.
I liked how the author built her story. You see that there’s a connection between the main characters but not necessarily an instant one. In a way you get three stories here. You have Mercer’s story, you have Clover’s story, and then you have the one when they’re together. If you want to carry it one step further, you also have their parent’s stories.
When looking at the book, it was listed as a comedy. My funny bone never really got engaged but I wasn’t disappointed with that. And what one sees as funny someone else might not. What I was looking for was to see our couple’s connection build and if they gave me a chuckle or two was fine by me. Wanting to see Clover get what her heart desires was something that kept me turning the page. I also liked that the author shows the ups and downs in building a relationship. And she creates an ending where Mercer and Clover get what they both want.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
Almost Had You is the first book from this author that I have had the pleasure of reading. I loved the insta-love romance between Mercer and Clover. I enjoyed following their story and look forward to reading more books from the Harbour Point SEAL series.
This was a pretty good book. I enjoyed Mercer but I was not a fan of Clover, Tannie, Goldie or almost everyone else in the book. I found them all to be selfish jerks. Honestly, Clover is old enough to make her own decisions and she just annoyed me.
I adored the way Mercer loved her, though. That Southern charm was perfect!
I liked how this book had some humor in it. These stories are usually drama (rightfully so) and this one was a little lighter than the rest of Rachel’s books.
There is really nothing almost about this book. It hits every spot! Mercer and Clover will have you falling in love. Their story is filled with so much it’ll capture your attention from the beginning to the very end. There’s plenty of emotion and drama with a touch of good ole Southern charm; oh, and, of course, a nice helping of passion with just the right amount of steam. It’s a love story you will want to devour, so be prepared because once you start you won’t want to put it down.
