If you enjoy the creeping conspiracy of The Matrix and the bestiaries of HP Lovecraft, then Alligator Season is a must read. When Catalina, a monster huntress, receives a call for help from the town of Corumb , she immediately answers, aware of their helplessness … huntress, receives a call for help from the town of Corumb , she immediately answers, aware of their helplessness against the strange creatures that creep through the forests of Brazil. However, she quickly learns that the real fight is not only against the swamp, but also against the shadows of her past.
Welcome to The Redacted Files.
Tyler Hanson’s debut series, The Faction, is a series of novels set in a timeline not too unlike our own, where conspiracies are connected by sinister means. Follow five individuals who use ill-gotten “abilities” to battle against a global terror. From Ground Zero to the Indian Ocean Tsunami, from Hotel Cecil to Water Fluoridation, the outcasts travel through an altered history as they learn their limits. What are they willing to sacrifice to undo these urban legends?
In The Redacted Files, experience tales outside the main narrative, giving valuable insights into the characters, exploring never before seen locations, and experiencing terrible monsters that will terrify the mind.

I enjoyed this short story about a huntress named Catalina. Full of action, strange creatures, and a kicka#s young woman who can’t speak. The supernatural creatures were unique and very different from anything I had read about before.
I have to say that I would like to know more about Catalina and her backstory. The tale kept me entertained and wanting more. I could have done without some of the language, which in my opinion did not add anything to the story.
The narrator did a good job and added a lot to my enjoyment of the book. I was given the chance to listen to this audiobook through Story Origins and chose to review it.
This book has a strong female hero, tons of action and an unexpected twist. There are also some scenes with violence. That is to be expected when the lead is a monster huntress and she is called upon for help.
This was an intriguing story by Tyler Hanson. I enjoyed the style, like following through a case file.
Jess Trepanier’s performance was entertaining. I thought her style fit the character well.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
I love stories about strange creatures. This one was great but I think I was expecting something more alongs the lines of cryptids and more adult. This one was more for youth and was like an action hero tale. I wasn’t a big fan of the main character. I’m sure it was written to promote a strong female character, which I think is great. But for some reason I wasn’t crazy about her personality. I think if it were written in first person . I did love the adventure of it all and could picture it great in my mind. There were some scary moments. I was surprised at the ending,
I listened to the audio version which was a plus. The narrator was great and brought it all to life.
Catalina is one tough huntress – she must be part commando too because the action is fast and rough. The narrator does a great job with the different accents and speech patterns of the characters and held my interest all the way.
This adventure boasts two varieties of non-human monsters and yes there are greed-driven merciless human monsters as well. The most prodigious monster operates near a jungle swamp, and the story is that another hunter has already begun a search for it, along with another called “the Collector”, but they have come up empty. Night after night a villager disappears without a trace. The survivors who escaped can only offer the sketchiest description, and Catalina suspects there is more to this hunter and collector than they are showing.
Non-stop action with no holds barred! a great listen too!
Really an exciting book. The audio version was truly fun! Good characters, good plot and a lot of suspenseful action!
Alligator Season: The Redacted Files is a short story about a monster hunter. I will try to give the details without spoiling anything. It has a good build up with a hard fought battle as an introduction. You learn about how Catalina is strong, smart and fast in this battle. Not long after defeating the first monster (I don’t think I am giving anything away here), she is asked to help with another monster. This time she isn’t working alone and a large group of people have not been successful. There is one problem, they want to capture it, instead of killing it. Catalina doesn’t want anything that is hunting people to live, it’s just too dangerous. There are some twists and turns that definitely keep you entangled in the story and on the edge of your seat.
The title says Redacted Files and at the time, I thought it was just a stand-alone short story. The author has 2 books in his created universe and this is just a short prequel to those novels. Given how well this one was done, I will have to check that out. This short story stands on i’s own and is definitely worth the time to enjoy. I do wish there were more stories in it.
I received this audio book at my request in return for an honest and unbiased review.
I thought that this was a really good not only story but an excellent introduction to the series. I thought that the characters were well developed for being a short story, especially the lead character, which I also thought that it was nice to see a rare female lead with this personality. I thought that it was very well created monster for this intro.
In my opinion the narration was done extremely well throughout the book and really helped draw you in.
I really, really disliked the protagonist in this story. REALLY!
I guess the intention was portrait a strong woman, but to me, the end result was a psychopath, sorry. And the story was a bit over the top, too. So, no, not for me.
Jess Trepanier did a very good job with the narration, though.
The main character is a huntress hired to find and kill the monster that has been menacing a small village. But is the hunter actually the one being hunted? There are some really great action scenes that would play well in a movie. The ending was a real surprise to me. A great series opener, it made me want more.
I received a free copy to this audiobook in return for my honest opinion.
Alligator Season: The Redacted Files, my first read from author Tyler Hanson. Well-written, the characters as well-developed as can be in this short work. I’m a character reader, I get into the characters. Who and what they are. Why they do the things they do. The things that make a reader get invested into the characters and thereby the book. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. Jess Trepanier’s narration added to the book’s enjoyment. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
I really didn’t know what to expect when I started this one. I originally thought monsters. Maybe cryptids. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Oh, there are monsters all right. Just not necessarily the ones you think.
It’s well-written, with good descriptions and dialogue. There’s enough action to keep you going long after you should have been doing something else.
Read it or listen to it. The narration is good on audible. Either way, you won’t be disappointed.
Alligator Season acts as both a wonderful, supernatural story in its own right AND as a side-entrance to Tyler Hanson’s debut series, The Faction.
Following Catalina, a monster hunter, Alligator Season will subvert your expectations of what the word “monster” truly means. Their are horrifying creatures out in the world, and not all of them are as visible as you might expect.
If you’re looking for a fresh take on the conspiracy/paranormal thriller genre, let Tyler Hanson wet your appetite with Alligator Season.
