I read Slammed several years ago, and I’ve been a fan of Colleen Hoover’s ever since. Her newest release, All Your Perfects, is simply so good that it’s hard for me to do it justice. It is a love story, but it’s the kind of love story you don’t often come across.
This is the story of a marriage, and it’s a story of loss. It realistically depicts what happens when people in a marriage stop communicating and simply begin to disconnect. With Quinn and Graham, this isn’t something that happens overnight; it’s a gradual, painful process that we, as readers, experience along with them year after year.
I cried reading this book, but I also smiled and laughed out loud. And that’s a marriage, right? There are highs, lows, joy and pain. If you’re lucky to have a Graham in your life (and I believe that I am one of those oh-so-lucky people), this book is a reminder to be grateful for everything that is good in this life.
No matter what stage of life you’re at, no matter the current state of your relationship (or quest for a relationship), no matter what…Read this book.
I won’t ever forget this book, or all its perfects. Wow.
Colleen Hoover has done it again with All Your Perfects.
This story had me all in my feels from the very beginning. Graham and Quinn meet during a difficult time but you can tell there was an instant attraction. Within time a relationship develops and they are both young, in love, carefree and can’t wait to spend the rest of their lives together. I loved the fact that this book was written in past and present so you could see the how the relationship develops and slowly destructs as well.
“Isn’t that what I wanted, though? For him to stop fighting so hard for something that will only bring him more misery?”
“We’re all full of flaws. Hundreds of them. They’re like tiny holes all over our skin. And like your fortune said, sometimes we shine too much light on our own flaws. But there are some people who try to ignore their own flaws by shining light on other people’s to the point that the other person’s flaws become their only focus.’’
I’m not married but this book taught me a lot about relationships and marriage. How two people enter a marriage with the best of intentions and even though they love each other, love isn’t always enough. Sometimes loving someone means possibly letting them go. I pretty much devoured this book in 24 hours. I HAD to see how everything with Graham and Quinn would unfold. This was a tough book to read at times because you could feel the characters pain. I was so sympathetic for Graham and Quinn as they were both suffering silently in different ways. THis story was an emotional roller coaster and the last few chapters DID ME IN as I read. Make sure you have tissues handy.
I loved how this book touched on certain topics that are sensitive for women as well. There are so many expectations that are placed on women and I loved how this book handle the topic. A woman can be anything she wants, wife, mother, housewife, ceo, world traveler. We are more than just our reproductive system but enough with the PSA.
Long time fans of Hoover will definitely enjoy this story. The story was passionate, realistic and poignant. The words just flowed and it will be a story that I won’t forget anytime soon. This has become my second favorite book after “Hopeless”. It gave me all the old school feels that I love and I highly recommend that everyone read this book!
“Received a review copy from NetGalley and I voluntarily provided an honest review.”
Another winner by Colleen Hoover. I’m beginning to think that she needs to start writing books as fast as I can read them.
Great book with realistic characters. A great balance of emotions.
With a deft hand, Colleen Hoover crafts the unraveling of a marriage with brutal, unflinching honesty. The genius is in how she stitches together the perfect ending. This is one beautiful story.
Colleen Hoover gets better with each release. This story represents so many marriages, and so many couples who struggle with seemingly insurmountable issues. I love how she kept the conflict and tension going despite vascillating between then and now. All Your Perfects is a tour de force which proves that there is always hope in the midst of despair, and reading it just might make your summer perfect!
Hoover has a way of writing characters that behave like your best friends. If you’re looking for a book that highlights how a real marriage can begin with such hope and be fraught with such pain and angst, you’ll want to read this story. Your summer will be richer having read All Your Perfects!
I have struggled with this review. It’s one of those books where I want to say so many things, but knowing that everything I want to say could essentially spoil parts of the story, I am at a loss for words.
This is one of Hoover’s best books as of late. I was on the fence whether or not to read this one. Her last couple of books were good, but they weren’t Colleen Hoover good. They definitely didn’t wow me like some of her other books did. I am so glad I decided to go ahead and read it. I haven’t read a five star book from her in a while.
The book spoke to me on different volumes. The crumbling marriage (no, my marriage isn’t crumbling). The drifting apart. The being afraid to voice issues or concerns out of fear, in order to hold on to what once was. I think that rings true to any relationship. I don’t care what anyone tells you, there is no such thing as perfect communication.
This was one of those books that hit me right in the gut. There are certain aspects of the story that are similar to my personal life. They may not be for the same reasons, but they are present. This book left me in my head. I don’t foresee myself finding my way out of the fog for a while. It’s one of those things that leaves you a little lost in your head, not knowing how to dig your way out.
I felt connected to Graham and Quinn from the start. Between their love for one another and their insecurities, they portrayed a real-life couple. They are flawed and completely imperfect. They had to fall in order to pick up the pieces to move forward.
I had a hard time getting into this book, mostly because it felt real and gritty. But once I hit a certain point, I could not put it down. The story is so deep and the characters so raw that it felt as though I knew them. I loved that nothing was predictable and yet . . . the ending was genuine and happy.
Just finished All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover and I am legitimately sobbing. I don’t ever cry when I read, except with her books. 6 STARS!
Colleen Hoover never disappoints!
It’s been over two years since I’ve read IT ENDS WITH US and I still think about the characters and the story a lot. I know I will be carrying ALL YOUR PERFECTS with me for a very long time. I think it’s very easy for people to take for granted the fact that they can have children. Honestly, I never thought about how infertility could impact a marriage. AYP was painful, raw, honest and most of all inspiring. Quinn and Graham’s story was one full of promise, hope, devastation and forgiveness. This may be my favorite CoHo book to date.
This is a first time for me by this author and I am a bit speechless. As I was listening to this story of two individuals who met under an unusual circumstance and later re-connect on the anniversary date of the day their lives were changed, you had to cheer them on in hopes that they would have a happily ever after.
The story is of Quinn and Graham who meet at the front door her Quinn’s fiance only to hear the echos of passion of the people they care about the most. As they sit and wait for the inevitable, they talk, eat the Chinese food intended for the cheating lovers and read their fate through the fortune cookies. Both are angry, however it is Graham who is calmer and convinces Quinn not to give in to emotions when they both come face to face their partners. They meet up at a bar and eventually go back to her place. Although the air of revenge-sex plagues them, they do not give into the temptation. Graham departs but before going, he leaves Quinn his number to one day call. Time pass, they move on but by chance they see each other at a restaurant. It is from that day on, they become reacquainted, fall in love and marry…”in all their perfects”. It is now seven years into their marriage and what was perfect isn’t so perfect anymore.
I, like a few of my Goodreads friends am going to leave this review short. All I can say is “WOW” and that this author starts off from beginning, during and end with a wonderful love story. It will make your heartache, cry if you are a tearjerker and keep you wanting to know the outcome for Quinn and Graham. “All Your Perfects” had tears streaming from my eyes and my heart wanting to console them.
Colleen Hoover’s writing is great and the narration of the “Then” and “Now” aspects makes you want more and more. It also doesn’t hurt to have loveable characters that try very hard to work through the challenges they face within their troubled marriage. I absolutely recommend this one for reading/listening.
To start, I would like to say that I went in this book blind. I had no idea what it was about. I didn’t even read the blurb. I bought it because it’s Colleen Hoover and I love everything she writes.
I liked All You Perfects because the emotions were real and so was the plot. I enjoyed the writing. I enjoyed the story. This author is talented, she writes amazing books.
Unfortunately for me, this time, I just didn’t click with the main characters. The heroine irritated me and I just knew what was coming before it happened… And in the end, I felt more for Graham than I did for Quinn.
Maybe it’s because I couldn’t relate…but I kept telling myself that if he was half the man she described him to be, she should have been able to talk to him.
But then we wouldn’t have had the book, so I completely understand.
This book drew me and then GUTTED me. And I don’t regret a single second of reading it. I can’t say I loved every page though, there were plenty I hated, ones I wanted to rip to shreds. But that’s the beauty of this book. It’s raw and real and so Hoover-like. Just read it. Thank me later.
I loved this book. So much! I loved how it depicted marriage in all its faults… and all its perfects.
Graham and Quinn meet on what should be one of the worst days of each of their lives. They go their separate ways after, but run into each other six months later. They hit it off, and are married within a year. And their marriage seems perfect, but they’re both struggling with issues that are preventing them from finding true happiness. They need to find and get back to what is true: that they love each other.
Colleen Hoover did such a heart-wrenching job of portraying marriage; it’s not perfect, there are highs, and there are always struggles, and some struggles are too difficult to move past. The writing was, as expected, phenomenal. The characters were well-developed and real. Graham- oh my goodness, he is like perfection personified! And I could identify so well with Quinn and her reactions.
If you’ve never read a Colleen Hoover book before, this is the perfect book to begin with. I can’t wait to reread All Your Perfects!
I’m going to start this review off by saying Colleen Hoover will always be my favorite author. I think I will absolutely love everything she writes. She’s a writing God.
As someone who tried to have a second child for over three years, this book really hit home with me. I felt every emotion in this book. I was happy one chapter and depressed the next. I was smiling in one chapter, crying in the next.
I love the format of now and then. You get to see what Quinn and Graham’s relationship was like before their years of trying to conceive. You see what stress can really do to two people who are so in love with each other.
I really think this book should be read by any man whose wife isn’t able to reproduce. This would give so much insight. I can’t even begin to describe the depression you feel when you’re unable to get pregnant. This book describes it. PERFECTLY.
I’m not going to give anything else away from this book because I’m going to make you read it. Go to the store and buy this book right now. Go on Amazon or wherever you purchase books and buy it now. Make sure you have tissues handy.
10000/5 Stars
Our marriage has never been perfect. No marriage is perfect. There were times when she gave up on us. There were even more times when I gave up on us. The secret to our longevity is that we never gave up at the same time.”
All Your Perfects is a beautiful and heartfelt adult romance with elements of women’s fiction threaded throughout. It’s an exploration of a marriage, and in Colleen Hoover’s trademark style, we watch it evolve as the timeline alternates between past and present. It’s funny, mildly sexy, complicated, and absolutely heartbreaking. Hoover gifts her readers life lessons about love, relationships, and flawed individuals by showcasing the importance of communication, patience, understanding, and forgiveness. With great characters who encounter an ongoing and seemingly insurmountable struggle, circumstance is the only villain in this book. Anyone who has been in a long-term relationship will likely be able to relate to many aspects of this story, and all others will encounter an opportunity to live and learn through Hoover’s engaging writing style. Check it out.
I’m not crying, you’re crying.
The way this book goes back and forth between the past and present puts me on a rollercoaster of happiness and utter despair. The trouble is, these two have stopped communicating. I mean, there are other problems, one ongoing and one giant mistake. Which, by the way, not that it’s EVER okay, but there are always reasons. And anything can be worked through. Anything. As long as that is the goal of BOTH parties.
I know this sounds a little different than my typical reviews but I guess I feel like I just went through this with Graham and Quinn. I feel like I know them. Ok, I guess I am crying. You win.
