Wasn’t what I expected but exciting. Not the normal end of the world story. It has a splash of Peter Pan with heroines who are normal women with normal problems. I don’t want to give away the story. Worth the read.
The original storyline caught my attention quickly. I do feel it could have been developed in a better way, but, I’m no expert. I was still interested enough to read the whole thing.
I usually don’t like these types of books but I really enjoyed this one. However, I recommended it to my daughter and she didn’t like it. The characters were realistic and the whole plot is something that could really happen. A page turner
This is the first book that I have bought a paperback copy of in Forever. It was so entertaining to read that I want to give it to a friend. Very fast paced apocalyptic story about a small family group and a few others. Well-drawn and believable characters. The way the author describes the emotions and underlying motivations as the story progresses is deftly interwoven with the story. I’m eager to read more by this author.
I enjoy post apocalyptic stories, not so much for the loss and terror, as for the survivor’s story. It fascinates me that people can become a different person in dealing with survival, than the people they were living their lives as. That being said, this story has a heroine that is not a real likeable person, whom I grew to like as the story progresses. The story situation was very realistic and felt it was a page-turner as it evolved.
The book was so engaging that I read it in one day.
Great read.
never finish reading, just couldn’t hold my interest .
I finished this book, but pushed myself to do so just to see how it ended. It was way over the top for me.
This is one of the best books I’ve ever read. The characters were outstanding and the challenges faced by them were amazing. I highly recommend this book.
First of all, if you are suffering with PTSD, you may want to skip this book as it does deal with things that might bring back the memories of terrorism and 9/11.
This is a unique and haunting book about 2 moms taking their kids hiking in the deep woods in England. The women are sister in laws Marlene and Jo and each have family and husbands. They don’t notice the lack of cellphone use or the extreme quiet as not one plane is flying over them. The children notice smoke and fires in the distance. I can’t say too much more but these moms are put into believable, scary conditions as they try and return to their homes. And on the travels to home and back into the woods, they take on more children and try their best to care and protect everyone.
The moms are so real as are their kids. And the conversations they have are funny, off the wall and yet deep. Each reacts to their situation in their own way and you’ll find yourself thinking Jo is right and then later you’ll be rooting for Marlene. The ending leaves a sense of hope and yet fear …fear for the ones still waiting behind. I could not put this book down.
Excellent writer; great story. I would have given 5 stars, were it not for two reasons. The main character, Marlene, was not anyone I’d care to know, and the end left me hanging. The other characters – Joni, Lola, the children – were lovely.
