To be accepted and loved for who we truly are is to be given the freedom to contribute from our innermost core, from our hearts. It gives us the courage to do the same in return, to love and accept others, to make a positive difference in their lives and in this world of suffering and isolation.
The Healing Edge Trilogy by Anise Eden sends this point home in a most unexpected way. The first book of the series, All the Broken Places, introduces us to Cate and Ben, our main characters, as well as to the unique and wonderful members of the MacGregor Group. Cate’s an empath, so attuned to the suffering of others that she gets weighed down with it. She comes to the MacGregor Group deeply troubled, unsure of herself and her worthiness, and more than a little angry. She’s one feisty empath! The members of the group, for which Ben is the Director, are alternative healers. They want Cate to join them, but at first, she doesn’t like the terms. She’s used to doing things her own way, whether it hurts her or not. But their positive energy, their practices, and their love and acceptance begin to heal her. Even as she puts herself through one life-threatening situation after another, they encourage her to open up and face her fears, and guide her towards living a fuller, more authentic life.
Each book in the series is alternately edge-of-your-seat-nerve-wracking, sublimely tender, and deliciously sexy. The books pull at your emotions and pretty much secure your heart in your throat throughout.
Anise Eden’s All the Broken Places and The Healing Edge Series — romantic thrillers that check all the right boxes and then some. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
Anise Eden’s book All the Broken Places is easily one of my favorite reads. This story captured my attention from page one and never let go. This is a unique paranormal romance and sets the stage for a great series. I really liked heroine Cate. She was smart and personable. Hero Ben was just as engaging. Their relationship brews slowly as Cate agrees to enter a program headed by Ben. She has never gotten over her mother’s death and it has affected her career and relationships. Once she arrives at the program, however, she realizes she is the only “patient” and the people running it have some rather odd abilities. Their unique powers bring her own to light and Cate finds herself in some strange situations. As Ben is tasked with illuminating her, their attraction grows. Ben, too, is not quite what he seems. This is a sweet romance, filled with tender moments, and a great start to a fantastic series.
A troubled empath enters into a parapsychology program – much to her resistance – where she is to receive help from a group of energy workers who conduct aura readings, telepathy, crystal and chakra healings, reiki and acupuncture. She has an instant attraction to the director, who she also finds infuriating. The writing was good, the plot interesting, and the conversations pertaining to the energy work performed by the gifted healers enlightening. The protagonist, however, was quite immature for a clinical therapist and behaved like a stubborn child through most of the book. Yet she finds love. I guess that’s the magic of a paranormal romance!
