All That Glitters by Danielle Steel is the story of Coco, a privileged, beautiful young woman who has to grow up fast when her beloved parents are killed in a terrorist attack in Paris. I didn’t like the way Coco was with so many different men as she was attempting to find herself after the death of her parents. I felt like it was fairly easy to figure out how the story would end and I rated it a three.
Danielle Steel know how to pull your heart in and not let go until the end. I wanted to savor every page in this story, of Coco finally finding love like her parents had. Loved Coco and Sam’s friendship, always there for each other even though they have different upbringings. Coco goes through a few relationships before she finds her happiness in life. I highly recommend this story.

All That Glitters…..as the aphorism says is not gold. The title says explains my experience reading this book. It seemed to have so much potential but was ultimately just okay.
Nicole “Coco” Martin was a 21 year old year journalism major at Columbia University when her parents were tragically killed by a terrorist attack while in France. Coco had missed the annual trip as she was hired as a summer intern for Time magazine. In the aftermath of their death, Coco’s life is shattered as her life revolves around her loving parents, Tom and Bethanie.
Fortunately, her best friend from childhood, Samuel Stein, is always a source of support for her. His strict Orthodox Jewish parents want him to marry an Orthodox Jewish girl and have babies. He is focused on his studies and tries to encourage Coco not to abandon her college dreams.
Coco is so distraught that she cannot return to school and is unable to meet her intern commitment at Time. Her father’s married business partner Ed is made trustee of her inheritance. He begins an inappropriate relationship with her which just further traumatizes her when she naively thinks he is leaving his wife for her.
After the disaster of a relationship with her trustee, Coco accepts an internship in the London Time office. She feels traveling abroad would provide some distance and allow her to move forward from her grief. It isn’t long before she falls for Nigel a Time employee more interested in partying and running up the social ladder than a successful career. He says and does all the things that Coco wants to hear even s her drugs her down a rabbit hole.
Her close platonic relationship with Sam does nothing to dissuade her from making one bad decision after another. He knows her and has only the best intentions for his friend. It was frustrating to understand how Coco could continue to ignore his valid concerns for her safety. Coco expresses her concerns for Sam’s future to a “solid” Orthodox Jewish girl with whom he had been dating for over a year. She feels he should marry for love and not obligation to please his family.
I wanted to enjoy this story more than I did. The characters were dull without much dimension making it hard to invest in their story. There were so many moments when I thought Coco needed a “dope slap” for being so stupid! A true example that money does not buy happiness and all that glitters is not gold.
This was a Great book. I could not put it down until I finished it!
Another great read by Danielle Steel. Coco is orphaned at 21 when her parents are killed in a tragic terrorism event while visiting France. Left very well off but living very simply, Coco is shattered and leaves college to grieve. Finally pulling it together with the support of her best friend Sam. They have been besties since 4th grade. Thru everything they have kept a close friendship, Sam in New York, Coco in London where she had gone to intern at a magazine. Lives go in very different directions but the friendship endures. Won’t give away anymore, quick easy read. Thank you to Net Galley, Danielle Steel and Publisher for this advance copy in exchange for my honest review..
A story of coming of age during tragedy. As always with a Danielle Steel novel, I picked it up and fell deeply into a connection with the characters. It was a fast paced storyline with light complexity. It wasn’t my favorite of her latest releases, but it was an easy read with lots of interesting characters and connections.
Coco is on the verge of graduating from college and stepping into the big bad world with a dream internship when life as she knew it is ripped from her in one fell swoop with her parents being killed in a foreign terrorist attach while traveling. The emotion is high and love and sadness prevail as she tries to pick up the pieces of her future without her two stabilizers.
She portrays a loyalty that shines bright when showcasing the relationship she has shared over the years with her best friend Sam. Her career ambition is strong, but she keeps her eyes open as different facets of the field intrigue her. Her only weakness is her quickness to succumb to the wrong type of men and inability to stand on her own without one by her side.
I enjoyed the book and recommend it to anyone who wants an easy read without a lot of interwoven drama and saga like storyline.
Thank you to Netgalley, Random House Ballantine and the Author Danielle Steel for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book had the perfect title which fit really well with the story.
Another strong but young female protagonist who overcomes tragedy, bad love choices and maternal pain only to find what she was looking for all along was at arms length all along.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
I have always loved Danielle Steel books. This book was to descriptive and not enough story line to me. I didn’t like how she was with man after man. I honestly struggled with this one.
All That Glitters by Danielle Steel was a gripping tale of grief, loss, hope, discovery and moving forward. It seemed like Coco had the perfect life. Her parents loved her and gave her some great opportunities in life. When tragedies strikes, Coco finds herself drowning in grief and trying to find her new normal. This takes her on a journey of self-discovery where she finds herself making choices, some good and some bad, but all her own. Through the loss and close friendships, she makes her way forward. All That Glitters by Danielle Steel was a heart-wrenching and heartwarming read with so many feels.
Happy reading!
Coco Martin, 21, is a beautiful yet modest young woman. She is a journalism major at Columbia University and looking forward to a summer internship at Time magazine. Coco’s best friend is Sam Stein. His Jewish parents don’t approve of their friendship because they want him to marry a Jewish girl.
An only child, Coco loves spending time with her parents, Tom and Bethanie. They are off to France for their annual summer vacation. A few days later, they are killed in a terrorist attack. Shocked, Coco is thankful for her father’s partner, Ed and executor of the estate, to help with funeral arrangements.
Sometime after the funeral, Ed starts to take Coco out to dinner which angers Sam as he thinks Ed is hitting on her. Shortly afterward, they start an affair which she finally breaks off.
When Coco inquires about an internship with Time, they offer her one in London. She is thrilled and loves her job. She meets Nigel who takes her to parties and house parties with posh people. Knowing he has no money, she marries him anyway after he signs a prenup. But, their marriage doesn’t work out they divorce shortly after she realizes she’s pregnant. But Nigel isn’t willing to go easily especially now that he knows how much money Coco has. Will she find happiness in her life?
This story builds even more from this place but I don’t want to add any more spoilers. I enjoyed reading how Coco grows and matures. Yes, she has more men in her life than one would think, but that’s not for me to judge. I like the Danielle Steel way of telling a story and even though she repeats a lot in her books, she does create a great tale. I can certainly recommend this book. Enjoy!

All That Glitters by Danielle Steel is a fun, if predictable novel centered on the life of Coco Martin, a young woman with wealthy parents, although not really part of the social scene. They were preparing for their annual summer trip to Europe; a trip Coco with not join this year as she had just started an internship with TIME magazine. She had just finished her junior year at Columbia and was looking forward to her career in journalism. Her best friend since childhood was Sam Stein, who was as different from Coco as humanly possible. He was Jewish, studying at NYU in finance. Her parents didn’t cares; his parents didn’t believe they were friends and nothing more: a male and female? She saw her parents off and prepared for work the next day. Then came the startling news: there had been a terrorist attack in France. Many killed and injured. Then came the bad news: her parents had been killed, part of a little more than a dozen Americans affected. She immediately went into a tailspin; quit her internship, dropped out of school and vegetated. Sam did what he could. It was a year later when her boss at TIME offered her a job in London. She would be perfect. Plus, she could afford to live there. The salary offered wouldn’t stretch that far for most. She loved her job. She met a man, minor aristocracy. They fell in love and married and thus began years of heartbreak and trauma.
This was fairly predictable, though eminently readable, novel, cataloguing Coco’s relationships with men. The death of her parents had left her alone and she was constantly searching for the love she missed. Sam remained her steadfast friend, through her marriage, and his. Coco was strong but insecure at the same time. She grew into herself professionally, although not in journalism. She was at Sam’s side when his father died and he was forced to take over a business he didn’t want. It was an emotional read as Coco traversed the ups and downs in her life, going from man to man. The reader’s heart bled as one thing after another colored Coco’s life, changing her but never really helping her to grow, emotionally. It was a moving book; despite the fact the ending was clear early on. I enjoyed it.

All That Glitters by Danielle Steel is a touching story. I have been reading Danielle Steel novels since I was twelve years old (I was bored). I amazed at the variety and types of stories that Danielle Steel produces. All That Glitters tells us about Nicole “Coco” Martin and her best friend since the fourth grade, Samuel Stein. Despite opposition from his Jewish parents, the pair have remained close friends. While Coco’s parents are kindhearted, loving, and supportive with her, Sam’s parental units have certain expectations of Sam as well as being judgmental and religious. Coco is our central character who is devastated when her parents die in a terrorist bombing in Cannes. She inherits her parents’ entire estate which leaves her vulnerable. Coco is left anchorless which has her searching for someone to fill the gap. She is attracted to bold men who are flashy. Coco has relationships with various men who teach her a variety of different lessons. Some of the experiences are good, but, oftentimes, they are painful and upsetting. We get to see that we do not always get it right the first time. Some people are lucky and find true love right out of the gate. Others must go through a few bad eggs before coming upon the right life partner. The hard part is picking up the pieces, dusting ourselves off, and moving forward having learned from our mistakes. I like how close Sam and Coco were throughout the book. They were there for each other through the good and the bad. Their unbreakable bond helped them get through the grief and heartache. I thought All That Glitters was well-written, with interesting characters, and it moved at a steady pace. This is a book that I did not want to rush through. I found myself wanting to shake Coco at times and yell at her, but I wanted to enjoy every single page. I enjoyed the descriptions of the London and the cozy house Coco lived in when she first moved to England. The author captured Coco’s lifestyle and took us from New York to London, Frances, and beyond. All That Glitters is a moving story with handsome homes, glitzy guys, gratifying jobs, terrible loss, devastating defeat, and a firm friend.
All That Glitters by Danielle Steele
Friends since 4th grade, Sam and Coco can tell each other anything and do. But after Coco’s parents are killed in a tragic bombing overseas, Coco decides to take an internship with Time in London. The change of scenery is good, but Coco must learn that all that glitters is not gold(en). Coco always seems to get caught up in the wrong relationships. They start out good and then go horribly wrong. Whereas, Sam doesn’t give himself enough credit. He starts dating the girl that fit his parent’s specifications, not his. Both Coco and Sam are struggling with their choices. Their choices have consequences that neither one can foretell. Will things ever come full circle?
Danielle Steele can tell a story like no other. There are scenes taken out of the current news and interwoven in the story that make it totally relatable. It is a story of love and redemption. This is a fairy tale that only Danielle Steele can create. Very enjoyable read.
Wow! This has got to be the best Danielle Steel book to date! It has everything you look for in an excellent, entertaining book. Romance, intrigue, adventure, loss, deceit, love, friendship, and lessons learned. I would have liked to have read this in one sitting but you know how life works, and that wasn’t possible. Pick up the exceptional book today and enjoy every moment!!!

By Danielle Steel
This is the story of the Coco and how she coped, or tried to cope, death of her parents’. It’s a story of a lifelong friendship and bonds between people who met as children.
Coco was simply trying to love and be loved however she wasn’t great at selecting her partners and with each new relationship came new challenges and new lessons learned.
I truly love this book. Real to life up and down. A true friend will always be there.

It has been years since I last read a Danielle Steel book. Even after all this time, there were no surprises. A completely predictable, easy read without a lot of depth. I’ve read worse but I’ve read better and this will probably be the last Steel book I read.

I really don’t even know where to begin with this one, I do have to though start off with that it was my very first Daniella Steel book I have ever read. I don’t know what has been holding me back from reading her books but after this one I will definitely be reading more. I really enjoyed her writing style and was able to follow the story very well in this one.
This book start off with Coco (well it is mostly about her and her life), she has an amazing life, amazing parents that love her so as she is their only child, a great best friend whom she would do anything for. She is in her last year at Colombia and has an internship at Time magazine. Life couldn’t get any better for her until everything she has know come crashing down. Her parents take their annual trip to Cannes where there is an awful terrorist attack that killed and injured many people and unfortunately Coco’s parents were some of the people that were killed. She is now left with everything as her dad was a successful business worth a lot of money. She soon has to come to terms with the loss of her parents and figure out how to navigate life without them. She has been left with a huge inheritance, a house in South Hampton, and an apartment in New York which is a lot for a 21-22 yr old to handle.
Sam is her best friend, they have been friends for most of their lives and yes they are just friends. Sam’s family was Orthodox Jewish and he of course had to marry within his faith. His parents were always concerned that there was something more between them but as the years past they just always remained the best of friends. Sam was there for Coco when her parents died being the only constant thing she had left.
Coco seems very naive about a lot of things but when it comes to men its seems really bad. Enter Ed…..Ed was her dad business partner and he swooped right in when she was most venerable and basically woo’d her, made her promises that he really could not keep and Coco fell hook line and sinker. She fell in love with Ed and his lifestyle that he liked to live. Of course trusty Sam was there to warn her but Coco felt she needed to listen to her heart and boy did that come back to bit her in the butt. Ed turns out to be only using her as a side piece. Coco left heartbroken decides to take a job in London, a new change of scenery might be just what she needs.
She is still working for Time but in the London offices where her boss Leslie introduces her Nigel. A man that lived the same life as Ed did only this one didn’t have a wife attached. They have a whirlwind romance that eventually leads to a marriage one she thought she wanted. But Nigel of course had other plans, he plans included spending as much of her money as he could to live up to a lifestyle he wanted. All the glitz and glamor at Coco expense.
I got the sense that Nigel wanted his cake and to eat it too. Coco catches him cheating, to which she kicks in out and tries to divorce him but somehow he weasels his way back in. Just when things seem to get better and Coco finds out that she’s pregnant, she catches him cheating yet again. This time she kicks him out for good. But of course he isn’t going to go quietly and wants to take a lot of money with him.
Coco put all of that behind her and tries to focus on herself and her upcoming child. She meets a famous author to which she falls madly in love with but he is really emotionally unavailable. They spent 4 glorious years together in an arrangement that suits both of them.
In the mean time Sam has now gotten married and having children of his own, something he honestly wasn’t ready for.
When Coco’s daughter Bethanie get diagnosed with cancer everything changes in her life. The man she was in love with can not be there for her emotionally or physically because of how broken he is and now she has to travel back to New York a place she has really returned to since her parents died.
The trials that Coco has to go through at such a young age are shown but she has grown from the mistakes she has made and of course tries to do better each time.
Sam is now getting a divorce from his wife and Coco is thriving in her life and making the best out of things. It finally dawns on her that what she has always been looking for is Sam. He has always had her heart and its taken many years for her to realize what he truly means to her. She is very much in love with him and finally gets the courage to tell him!! Its him that has All The Glitters for her.
