Welcome to the southern small town with endearing citizens, adorable animals, a smidgen of gossip with a touch of humor where there are twists and turns around every corner as they solve a local murder.Mail carrier, Bernadette (Bernie) Butler, along with the Front Porch Ladies, are curious of their new neighbor, Courtney Gaines, who is the niece of Florence Gaines, the wealthiest widow in Sugar … in Sugar Creek Gap. Florence lets it be known that she is seeing Zeke Grey, which doesn’t set well with the Front Porch Ladies. They were all in competition for Zeke’s attention.
Shortly after learning that Florence, who announced it rather loudly, that she and Zeke got married, while delivering the mail, Bernie overhears what could be the first marital spat.
As Bernie is happily awaiting the birth of her first grandchild, her best friend shares a feeling that something isn’t right between Bernie’s son, Grady, and her daughter-in-law, Julia. Grady seems to be very chummy with Courtney, which has Bernie singing high praise of Julia and how there is a new baby on the way.
When Florence turns up dead in mulch, coupled with what Sheriff Angela Hafley mentioned, Bernie can’t help but want to get involved and when Sheriff Angela requests Bernie to be a ‘snoop consultant’, she readily agrees. Bernie’s snooping leads her to information that hits a little too close to home and Bernie enlists her best friend, Iris for help.

Bernie is happy – her daughter-in-law is pregnant, she loves her job, and her relationship with Mac is going well. Then everything starts to go south. It looks like the new next-door neighbor, Courtney, has her eye on Grady – Bernie’s son. Her job is a little more difficult to the number of packages being delivered to Courtney. And now there’s a dead body in Courtney’s back yard.
This is my favorite of the mail carrier books. I enjoy this series and its wonderful characters.
Bernadette is settling into her new home in Sugar Creek Gap and keeping busy. She has her first grandchild on the way, is learning to knit and a new neighbor move in next door. When a prominent citizen meets an untimely death in the yard next door to Bernie, she can’t help but become involved in the investigation. With plenty of suspects, this story will keep you guessing until the killer is revealed. Great addition to this series…I couldn’t put this book down!
This is the third book in the Mail Carrier series. It proves to be just as good and well written as the first two. The characters come alive in the series and welcome you to Sugar Creek Gap just like you were family. There seemed to be a little less involvement in this book with the front porch ladies and a little more with Bernie’s best friend, Iris as compared to the other books in the series.
Bernie has to deal with life’s obstacles while on her normal mail route. Obstacles such as murder, heartbreak, suspicion and jealousy just to name a few. Some are resolved and some will have to wait until the next book to see what happens.
I read an advanced copy for an honest review. I highly recommend this book.
Bernie, one of the mail carriers for Sugar Creek Gap has many things going on in this story. She is busy trying to find out who killed one of the town’s most prestigious citizens. This is not going well for Bernie, the clues are not panning out as hoped. So what is she missing? Something, it has to be. I enjoyed the characters in this story, and I look forward to the next one. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I am liking this series more as it develops, but I am not happy with Mac right now. Bernadette and the gang have to do more sleuthing when Bernadette’s family becomes involved. She has a new neighbor who is the niece of one of the wealthy citizens. The niece doesn’t want to be there, but was sent to keep an eye on her aunt. When the aunt unexpectedly gets married, her niece is not happy. But, would she kill her? Or is it the new husband who is after her money? Bernadette has to find out soon before a member of her family ends up in jail.
Bernadette (Bernie) Butler, along with the Front Porch Ladies, get introduced to Bernie’s new neighbor, Courtney Gaines, while taking a knitting class. Courtney is Florence’s niece. Florence lets it be known that she is seeing Zeke Grey, which doesn’t set well with the Front Porch Ladies. They were all in competition for Zeke’s attention.

I had to laugh that Bernie’s snooping skills are far better than her knitting skills with visions of using her knitting needles as weapons out of frustration. I could picture the Front Porch Ladies all waiting in anticipation for Bernie to deliver a “smell-good letter”, which lead to a comment about “trying to hold a conversation with these four women was like being in a room full of squirrels.” As the list of suspects grows, so do the chuckles; as this mystery will keep you laughing and guessing.
I received an ARC and I have voluntarily reviewed this book.
