At first felt there were more words used to describe events happening and seemed to drag on; however, once it really got into when Hitler took over and the SS, and the things that were going on I couldn’t put it down. It was very disturbing to read some of the things that happened to the Jews so beware. Overall would recommended.
This is the first in a series by Robert Kagan. I have read just about everything she has written and this does not disappoint. It centers around WWII and the Holocaust. It begins with the lives of one couple and spreads through generations. It is an amazing journey of courage and endurance, love and pain….the first book will have you …
Predictable. Mindless read.
There is a series of this book, read them all. Roberta admits she sometimes uses writers license, to make the story more enjoyable, but she does research. It does not read like dry bio though, they are very good books.
Bad language – which is such a shame because it started out well
Roberta’s Kagan’s books are quick reads and deal pretty accurately with the historical setting. However, the editing needs to be better and some characters disappear with no closure
This is an excellent series
Great Book! Love this series!
After I read this book I read every subsequent one. It’s a haunting accurate portrayal
Wonderful book loved it!
Hard to put down
I learned a lot of tragic German Jew history
I liked this book.
juvenile writing style
Books like this tend to open ones eyes as to others lives.
Pretty realistic view of Halocaust.
Excellent
This is a wow!! It gives you a introspective view of the lives of the people living through WWII. Not all Germans were Nazis.
I love WWII history and this was from that period. I liked the book so much, I purchased other books in the series by this author.
I liked this book – the Holocaust books are always hard, but the human spirit and the power of love in this one shine through.
I really like that this is a bit of a different perspective than a lot of world war 2 books.
